Great band and song! Atheist were at the forefront of technical death metal but with the that nice jazzy element. Roger Patterson (Bassist) is spectacular and who wrote these bass lines but unfortunately was killed prior to recording in a tour van accident. Steve Flynns drumming is also so great and they parts just gel together so well. Still a regular on my playlist after all these years!

Been fan of the band since 80's. Both albums with Roger Patterson were awesome

Roger only plays in PoT, although he plays in demo recordings for UP and he did wrote the bass, unfortunately he passed away at the van accident while the band was touring prior to the recording of UP. Tony Choy, who is also a very talented bass player played the bass in UP

Such a great song...yes, lots of transitions, but each section was CATCHY. I pi cked up this album after Tony Choy's appearance on Cynic's Focus. Amazing stuff. Stands up beautifully even about 30 years later.

Tony Choy isn't on Focus..He's only on the '90 and '91 demos

@@jorgecaicedo1982 sorry, pre-Focus demos. BTW, TC was credited in the original liner notes...I've always assumed from that that he had a hand in creating these songs. They didn't just appear out of nowhere in 93. And at that time, I read EVERYTHING about them. As superior as I consider Sean Malone, at the time of the album's release Tony Choy had been their bass player for a good deal longer & could be considered every bit as crucial in the creating of that material. But yes, in the strictest sense, Sean Malone (may he RIP) was the bass player for Focus, & he was the one they toured with & stuck with going forward. I prefer him to TC, but I am a realist...TC was necessary for Focus to happen. Just like Roger Patterson was necessary for Unquestionable Presence, am I wrong?

i hate meaningless transitions just for their own sake. i can't get into btbam that much, it goes from deathcore to country for no reason. it's silly and distracting. good abrupt shifts are hard to come by, and this album is full of them

I’m not sure saying that with Roger Patterson writing the amazing bass for this record is a good thing

LOL! I think these guys have ADD or something. So many different things happening with no clear transitions whatsoever. But, damn, that breakdown in the middle was delicious!! 🤘

The transitions are very clear. You need to listen to more Jazz. I don't mean any disrespect either. It's just that this band is absolutely legendary. Nobody understood them when they first came out and to this day i still see people scratching their heads at this.

No, they're just jazz influenced and smoked a lot of weed when writing, I mean a lot lol.
