I agree - what guarantee has any deal with Russia have - none. Russia already broke their promises made in Minsk Treaty 1991, Budapest memorandum 1994 and Ukraine-Russia Friendship treaty 1997 Their word is worthless

I agree. Negotiations could only evolve outside the topic of Ukraine and with their President and Government at the helm. For example the concept Invented by former President Gorbatchov in his book Perestroika, could be useful. He suggested countries agree on a few matters of essence to the world in general in regards to their external politics, for there is no second Arch of Noah. Hope Russians will have a transition, ethical leadership which takes responsibility for the country's wellbeing, followed by elections, towards democracy, presuming this will be the choice of most Russians by then, towards Russia's best destiny🙏

As I understand it the Storm Shadow's Ukraine is using is an older model which was due to be decommissioned by the British. Giving them to Ukraine not only helps them but has saved Britain the cost of decommissioning the missile. I believe that counts as a Win-Win for Ukraine and Britain

That’s not the case. Storm Shadow is a very modern missile system. The export version Ukraine received does have a lower maximum range than the version the Brits use.

By that I mean, I know that she has a list of prepared questions, but she also creates intelligent questions "off the cuff" based on the responses as the conversation develops. You seem to be under a misapprehension that Putin wants Crimea for reasons that have anything whatsoever to do with the well-being of its residents. Crimea is a base with which to make an independent Ukraine untenable, no more, no less.

Making Crimea untenable would require the land bridge being cut and the Kerch to be made inoperable… both of which are tough to do but not beyond possibility within a six to nine month period if the west supported Ukraine with more long range systems and air power in the form of F16’s, which will be operational by spring’24

The land bridge is effectively cut in two places now. Crimea isn't getting sufficient re-supply any more. Most of the western part of the land bridge is starving for supplies to. I saw that some had no artillery support any more. The eastern part of the land bridge is still well supplied ... but by trucks?!?! Donesk and Luhansk have solid rail line supplies for now so I'd love to see sufficient long range weapons to cut their rail lines. The day can't come to soon for the Kerch Bridge to be cut permanently.

The ATACMS allegedly to be supplied won't help take out the Kerch as it's cluster bombs. The F16s won't last long amid the Russian integrated air defence - even if they have sufficiently clean airstrips to operate from. As for the land bridge, considering Ukraine can only put together squad sized formations that's never going to be severed.

One of the ways that Ukrainian forces knew that the meeting would be held in the main building is that they already had used a Storm Shadow missile to destroy the alternative, likely secret meeting building near the city. When Ukrainian intelligence learned of the time of the meeting, they could be sure where to aim their missiles to decapitate the Black Sea fleet.

Another brilliant interview by Kate. It’s always a pleasure to see her skills and mastery of her craft at work. It’s untrue that the 🇺🇸 sent cluster munitions because they were out of standard artillery ammunition. The reasons for sending cluster munitions were stated by General Milley and others, which included clearing out trenches of Russian forces and helping to clear out minefields as well.

The negotiated settlement over Crimea is completely impossible even in theory, the peninsula can only be liberated by Ukrainian army and no other way around. Ukrainians captured, raided or liberated Crimea countless times since the 10th century, while no single army in history was able to defend it.

There’s nothing to negotiate. Putin has been free to withdraw from Ukraine any time he wants since he started this war. In fact, since 2014 Putin has been free to withdraw from Ukraine. If he doesn’t choose to withdraw, he’ll be given no other choice.

I think when ATACMS or Taurus Missiles are provided cluster variants are more likely .. they will be effective against trenches massed troops barracks bases fuel dumps airfields radar and other sensitive systems .. single point munitions would be more useful to take down the bridge or Specific Whole buildings in Moscow .. so More controversial than cluster bombs which they are using regardless of opinion .. 🙏💙💛

#1, ATACMS are over $1M a piece, so Ukraine isn't getting more than a dozen or two, at a time, if that. #2, the Ukrainians in general are NOT allowed to use American and NATO weapons outside of Ukraine (so, no Moscow targets are going to be in danger from US and NATO supplied weapons: that likely means the Ukrainians could use ATACMS on that mighty Putin Bridge only on a very small section that touches the soil of Crimea & not the other 99.9% of the bridge in the open sea of Azov). Only domestically developed weapons platforms (air and water drones, etc), by Ukraine, may be used against Russian assets inside Russia. #3 that leaves the very scarce ATACMS units provided being used only against the most important (dozen or two) tactical or strategic assets in the Russian armed forces (e.g., very senior officers in meetings, to important headquarters, to very import rail hubs & major bridges Russians depend on for asset transports, which, when destroyed, takes months & tens of millions to repair, etc). #4, that means the ATACMS missiles and the F-16/Gripen they will have, late 2023 to mid 2024 (the 2 dozen to 50 or so units... Sweden likely will offer the Ukrainian 6 to 12 of Gripens, too, once F-16s are delivered), while important as noted, wouldn't be "game changer" weapons... the two/three new assets would just allow the Ukrainians to stretch the already very stretched Russian logistics even further... because both deal accurately and in very fast timing Russian targets many DOZENS of miles further into Russian occupied lands than what the Ukrainians are able to currently do against Russians... In other words, once the Ukrainians have some decent defensive & offensive capability at current NATO grade level ---- Patriots, F-16s, ATACMS, Storm Shadow/Scalp, SAMP/T (France & Italy), IRIS-T (Germany), etc. mean NATO grade capability --- it is going to be very, very hard to Russia to fight effectively INSIDE Ukraine, in all of the lands/provinces Russians currently occupied....

Crimea is Ukrainian territory and it would be a thorn in the side of Ukraine to leave it in Russian hands. Slava Ukraine 🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦❤️❤️❤️🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦❤️❤️

Depends on the model. Some export variants do have shorter range. I think max is around 350 miles.

Ukraine has great success with hitting supply-stores and supply-routes ! Every time Ukraine can hit a little further , the Russians have to move their ammunition stores : --- Russia has more than 200 000 troops on the frontlines and they need a lot of supplies ! Russia fire some 10000 155 artillery shells EVERY DAY! --- This is quite a logistic task ! When Ukraine get the ability to the hit those supplies then The Russian troops have much less ability to fight

This negotiation should be done without giving any territory.

Ukraine is already making Crimea untenable. Ukraine cannot negotiate to surrender territory. ATACMS actually allow them to do the only thing they cannot do now and destroy what’s left of the Kerch Bridge and attack ships supplying Crimea and Kherson, which Ukraine is doing presently with limited success

One of the limitations on the ATACMS missiles that the US is giving to Ukraine is that they are mostly the kind with cluster bombs. Ukraine probably wants the shaped warheads that could blow up a few of the lanes of the Kursk bridge.

Taking out a few airfields packed with Russian tactical aviation would be quite useful, though. In particular, the attack helicopters that have played a major part in stymieing the Ukrainian offensive lack the range to be both stationed outside ATACMS range and usable on the battlefield. Every Ka-52 destroyed represents a loss of 1-2% of Russia’s usable anti-armor helicopter fleet.

This guy is lost. Storm shadows don't have near that kind of range - the kerch bridge would be toast.

The storm shadow the UK has ,has that range but the ones they have sent to Ukraine have not ...pluss the warhead is 450 pounds.

Permanently wrecking a bridge is hard. Blowing a few holes in the roadbed, sure, but destroying bridge piers is very, very difficult.

Very, very interesting and informative. BUT ... there will never be a "negotiated settlement." The only possible outcome is ruzzians completely, totally and fully out of Crimea.

Yeah, let's "negotiate" with Putin. We can sign some papers, like the Budapest Memorandum. When Russia signed papers guaranteeing the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Putin is known for sticking to his word, and never lying. He can definitely be trusted.

There’s nothing to negotiate. Putin has been free to withdraw from Ukraine any time he wants since he started this war. In fact, since 2014 Putin has been free to withdraw from Ukraine. If he doesn’t choose to withdraw, he’ll be given no other choice.

it would certainly be easier with long range missiles, but there is something to be said about their newly developed domestic long range drones. I wonder if the threat of these will keep the Russians from attacking civilian infrastructure this winter like they did last winter. In any case, I am too all for suppling Ukraine with long range missiles. It will give them more options and it is about time Ukraine starts hitting back where it hurts the Russians the most. Putin has elections coming up in March, so he will be particularly weak this winter

Why would anyone in Ukraine agree to a negotiated settlement with Russia after Russia has already violated the Budapest Memorandum and the Minsk agreements? A Russian signature on an agreed settlement is utterly worthless.

Stop the bleating about nukes. There were countless threats and red lines. All have been crossed and broken, same with crimea. The orcs are crying wolf all the time, Noone believes them.
