This is the best explanation I have ever heard on what a technician needs to do in your house. No one else has ever been able to explain it to me, not even the phone company. Thank you! Great job.

Pass the message: SCAM ALERT Guys, there is someone impersonating to be an att rep. If u r a new customer, please continue reading. The scammer will ask if u received your reward card. They will have your name, address, and are aware that u r getting a reward card. They know the expiration date and the first 8 digits of the card. They will pretend like they r going to add more funds. It’s a scam. Don’t give them any information.

I had planned to install ATT fiber to my house last weekend. The ATT tech said he had to drill a hole to my outside wall and must be on the same side as the terminal box. So that the ONT will have power and will be in the kitchen. Then run the cable back outside the terminal box. The existing wire under my house is old telephone wire to my living room, which is where my ATT router is located. After seeing your video Stephen, I now know that the ATT tech i got was a lazy ass and didn't want to go under the crawl space to replace the wires. And to place the ONT box next to my router in the living room where it should be. Thanks for your video. Thumbs UP.

I'm glad they were willing to run the inside Fiber to a central location to your network equipment area. I have all of my networking gear in my master closet. I have 12 drops around the house. I want them to place my ONT there in my closet. I recently ran a gray 1/2" conduit from the outside spot where the slack NID will go when they install it to my closet and placed three pull strings, one for AT&T Fiber and two more for possible future Fiber service pulls from other Fiber providers in my area. There are two other Fiber providers, one aerial and another buried in my yard. Those plus AT&T makes three Fiber providers running past me. LoL Quite rare, I know. Plus, there is a cable provider here that I am currently using until AT&T's website shows me as available for Fiber. The Fiber is there but the website hasn't updated to allow me to order just yet. :) Nice setup, BTW, man. Looks clean and orderly.

Just had 1G AT&T fiber installed a couple days back. 850-900 Gbit/s down and 680 or so up right after install. Being it's FTTH, figured it would be more symmetrical and consistent as it just tested at 550 down and 600 up, no other active devices on my home network. Kinda odd... Enjoyed the video and explanation, nice clean install too... good job. Edit: And now, a few minutes later, it's testing at: 944/963: down/up with 9 ms latency using AT&T's Speed Test. Now, that's more like it, right?

No credit or anything! Plus the phone wasn't even working for about 4 months and they said it wasn't working for only 2 months, so all they did was give us the 2 months free and that's it. Which was disappointing!

That ONT is small compared to the one installed by Frontier Fiber here in Los Angeles. I have two dedicated Fiber Drops coming into the house because of its size. The Gig Drop is for my gamer nephews and all the 4K streaming. The Second Fiber Drop is dedicated to myself as I work from home and engage in heavy video conferencing as well as heavy uploading of data. My second drop is 100/100 and that is more than enough for what I need to do.

great video and very helpful. My issue is that I do not know what to expect either and had no clue how much space would be needed. A lot to still discuss with the tech. There are now more install vids which is helpful but I am amazed at the differences between installs. I will say that if I am paying almost 100 a month for the internet connection alone I will be mad as all get out if I do not have the 1000mbps up and down as they say you will have. If I get 1000 down but 500 up they need to adjust the cost because that is not what they advertise nor is it what you pay for and are contracted to pay for. Just my opinions

I currently have a TV cable running into the house the same way which has been disconnected. My assumption is that AT&T will run the fiber optics hookup the same way instead of underground from the alley way. Would you agree? Stephen, great video. Thanks for sharing. quick question. How or what is the best way to send a hard wired eithernet connection for ring doorbell or a tv that requires internet but would be better hardwired? Is that from the modem backend to the back end of the device or can this be done from the attic based on your wiring layout in this video?

Great video Steve! I was wondering how the fiber to Ethernet conversion was handled. AT&T is in the process of installing the innerduct in our neighborhood in which they will pull the fiber. So my fiber drop will be buried. I am currently an AT&T U-Verse customer on copper and at the maximum distant for copper based service.

@Stephen Terrific video and easy to follow along with you. Is your setup only ATT internet, or does it also include their U-verse tv too? I’m trying to figure out how it would work with their U-verse tv which uses their WAP to connect to one of their wireless receivers using the same internet config you discuss in your video (building a home and plan to use the same setup, but also figure out how to make the tv part work).

I work for Windstream Concord Telephone, which is a subsidiary of Windstream, our fiber is totally different from theirs. Their service seems to be a lot more complex and time consuming. We run fiber from the pole to the ONT which we mount outside on the side or wherever the old telephone NID of the home is. Then take a piece of CAT5 into the home whether it be the crawl space or into a ON-Q panel then right into the modem. We have pulled the fiber line indoors with large enterprises like Amazon, Carolinas Healthcare, etc. from there the same thing though, a CAT5 to the modem.

That is how AT&T used to do it here. I am not sure why they moved the ONT inside. Maybe it was a power issue for running it. I am happy with it being inside. Thanks for you comment and watching.

I am retired AT&T technician, thanks to your video I knew how I wanted my fiber installed. The AT&T tech wanted to run the fiber drop directly from pole to a hole in the wall in my office. I told him I wanted my fiber terminal for testing, and wanted the fiber drop pulled threw a conduit I have for all my communication wires from roof to craw space. Craw space very tight and he was a big guy, so I did the under house work, he cooperated 100% with me to get the job done right. Very happy with my fiber internet, how did I ever manage with DSL?

I have ATT FO as well. Networking is not my strong suit, and was just wondering if you could give some advice on how to make my wifi a bit more faster. My wired connection is fine, but my wifi range seems really low. My house isn't that big, and the wifi slows dramatically only about 40-50 feet away. Even with the different ghz connections. Do you need to buy a specific kind of Router to handle fo, or would it be better to just buy a wifi booster I can plug in, in the living room?

So I have ATT fiber and I have the same speeds you from ATT to my ATT provided gateway/router. However my speeds are only around 90mbs download on average when I connect via ethernet to my computer. Could you maybe explain the switch setup you have and if that would help speed things up? I also have a lot of devices connected both on wifi and wired so i've been researching for a good switch to get and maybe another router for better wifi. I've read on forums that to use your own router you have to use it "behind" the att one. Any advice or tips here?

So you have it all in your basement, and network cable in your walls to the other floors for those access points? I'm considering changing from Xfinity cable to AT&T Fiber. I don't think we can run cable through the house, but wonder if they could pull the cable through the areas where the coaxial was and perhaps make the connection in my living room. That or I'd have to put it all in the basement. Do I need a switch? Or can I just use my Linksys wifi router to send the signal?

Hey man when you set up and installed your fiber optic connection.. how long did it take for the ONT and wireless router to sync up? It was tellin me about 30min and now the loading bar isn’t moving and I’m thinking something is wrong even though it’s set up correctly

Just a suggestion if you using your own WiFi access go in to RG “Att modem” turn WiFi off so there is no interference “fight “ for Chanel, especially 2.5 antenna, it will make your access point more stable

What was the browser you used to check the internet speed? For a long time I had used Firefox because I heard it was the best browser...but one day I tried my windows 10 browser Microsoft edge and it actually picks up a better speed test than Firefox...and is speedtest by ookla the best way to test the speed?

Thank you! Thank you!Thank you! I am getting fiber from ATT, and NO ONE at ATT could tell me what the install would look like. This video says it all! The installer came and wanted to put the ONT box in the back bedroom on an outside wall, instead of where I wanted it, in a room in the center of the house. There is access both below the house in a crawl space and in the attic to reach the room. Installer was JUST PLAIN LAZY!

I live in Cleveland Ohio, getting this installed in 12 days. $75 a month after taxes for the first year then goes up to $100. Free installation and no rental fees. But i'm worried about how the install will go. I live in a very old house, i just hope i get a good technician.

That would work. Also consider running conduit from the inlet to the house to where your network is located. That way the fiber company (AT&T) can slide the fiber through the conduit and replace it easily. Remember to make it as easy as possible for the installers. Especially if there are finished walls. Just my two cents. Thanks for watching.

In car terms, how much horsepower will I lose due to drivetrain variables. : ) In other words, what will the actual speeds be once fiber gets to my house, if I don't have fiber cables running thru my house. Only the coaxial or DSL. Since it's converting to work in houses, what's the loss in speed translate to? Or is that an issue?

AT&T fiber is ran throughout my entire neighborhood (newer development) including my street literally right through my front yard...but says my street doesn’t have availability on their address checker. I have a address validation case open so hopefully the engineers are able to get it on. Weird. Entire neighborhood has it touted even my street and the nearest AT&T handhold is in my direct neighbors yard.
