This guy is 17 turning 18, he is about to enter the journey of his own pathway to being an adult and you parents who were never there want you to be a part of their new family. Your a baby sitter to them. Stay with your grand parents and make the steps to start creating your own future because they will ask you to give it up soon enough.

Nope, they can't. Just like they can't use the words thriving and surviving in the same sentence. 2 words that are getting on my nerves

Repetition: “Everything was a blur”. “I can explain “. “It’s not what you think “. You hear these phrases in many of these stories.

Personally, if they left you before, they will do it again when times are tough. My advice get custody of your baby brother in every way can to protect him from being neglected by the parents, so that he won't have to experience the hardship that man did.

Reconnecting with your parents after nearly 20 years of estrangement is much like quitting school as a teenager and going back at 40. In both cases you're doing something hard but also worthwhile.

Parents are getting pretty old, and you are expected to care for him after they pass on. When they are 60, Jack will be 40, and stable.

I have read the comments. I think his parents are sorry for not being there for him...they have matured and see their shortcomings. Yes the hurt is still there and will not go away but I would consider parents being sorry and knowing how they failed. I would forgive but the hurt would always be there. So for the sake of connecting with the new baby brother I would start anew...but take many days, weeks and years to really get close. Perhaps with the passing of time, a family closeness would come about. This involves work indeed...but it can be done. 😊

I would advise you to probably put up a savings account for your sibling in case they might need it just tell your grandparents about it but not your parents

If they weren't ready for kids, maybe, just maybe, don't traumatize them they sticking them with relatives. Either just don't make them or take accountability and work your butt off to raise them. As for the topic, it depends on the person. Jack looking out for his sister and making sure she gets the love and care that he never got from his parents is a tough path and not for everyone, but I could see him and his sister forming an unbreakable bond. His relationship with his parents doesn't have to be repaired, but I'm glad he was making the right decision for himself.

I mean at least his parents wanted to reconnect with him, most parents don't because they knew their kids would be happier with someone else, people who're more stable

Jack is full of himself. He had exactly what he said he didn't, with his grandparents. They did what was best for him, and his parents knew they weren't ready but gave him the best at the time. They were children themselves when he was born and realized they were ill-prepared for him. Yes, they made mistakes along the way, but it seems to me that in the end, it was the best for him. Is he now going to be jealous that they raised this child and not him? The audacity of him to question their intentions. I could understand if they were abusive, but they weren't. Like he said, he had his life to deal with. Maybe he should do so. He could have watched, but he had no right to question.
