I'm 55 and I just started getting into boxing, I am finding that slipping punches is an overlooked part of building the basic foundation. I watch most guys in the gym working on punches with just an added slip here and there. Thank you again for sharing your knowledge, it is much appreciated. 💪🥊

    Gabriel I am a shorter fighter and the o e who requested how to be a pressure fighter which you fulfilled 2 years ago. Much appreciated, could you do one on how the shorter fighter should roll the punch take an angle, and land a combination? I spar my coach a lot I have begun to realize it is not feasible for me to stand in front of someone of his calibre and try to trade with him head on. But getting low and taking an angle to strike from a safe position is superior.

    IMO, the highest level of striking is being able to maneuver so that you have clean shots at your opponent and they can't hit you.

    I think shadowboxing to music may help there: something with a walkable / danceable tempo, whatever it is you like that’s fun to really loosen up to. Don’t be too strict with yourself, just bounce and throw to the music - and take breaks to walk where you need them. It helps that most songs aren’t too long and usually have their ups and downs. You’ll also sharpen your sense of rhythm by doing this, and maybe be able to break that rhythm more easily.

    hi, gabriel thanks for the amazing tips and drills, do you recommend invest time in doing this slipping or focus more on pull backs and blocks for kickboxing and mma?

  • @chadwithautism
    @chadwithautism Жыл бұрын

    When beginners start doing this drill with everything moving, by weaving, punching and moving forward or back simultaneously, even if they have the correct technique, they tend not to emphasize feeling out their body mechanics. So when it comes to a fight they mostly aren't able to hit as hard as they can. The same thing with regular shadowboxing. Which is why practicing just your footwork and feeling out your balance is key. Everything starts from the ground up with a strong base. Then when you start punching, just punch as fast as you can (implying that it can just be very slowly) to feel your balance on your feet intact with the floor, and kinetic chain working from the ground, thats rooted again, from your feet, all the way to the end of your fist.

    Hi, Gabriel, thanks for the great training video. I was, however, told by my Muay Thai instructor to not bob and weave (Because I could get caught with a kick or knee) and instead just move my head left and right. What is your opinion on that?

  • @jovanfirma01
    @jovanfirma01 Жыл бұрын

    Correct me if I am wrong bat it looks to me that you are practicing doing ducking under punches ( for hooks and occasional cross maybe) , not slipping them like for the most straight punches when you just move your head side to side and not ducking under and making that U shape head movement pattern that you are doing in the video? Btw I know that drill is often called "slip line" that could be sometimes misleading

When i throw them as single shots, its all okay, but when i try to go jab-cross-hook-knee for instance, i feel like i am out of position for the knee. Maybe you could give some tips and tricks for landing the knees in combinations? Thanks either way

    Wouldn't this really be rolling? When I slip, say to the right, I more turn my right shoulder slightly down and to the side, so left shoulder coming forward a bit. Takes head just off line. Very fast to counter. I was taught this is rolling, maybe I'm wrong. Love the vids!
