    Thanks for the video, bought this model as a Black Friday gift for myself last year, was definitely a steal at 1200$. Came across this video because I wanted to confirm before opening: this model does not have a 2.5 SSD drive bay correct? Just an additional M2 slot? Looks that way anyways, its a shame because I have a spare 4tb ssd 2.5 inch that I'm not using, would have been a nice media storage drive for on the go.

Also, I would be curious to know if SSD 4TB can be used in this machine. I don't need to stripe raid because NVMe Gen.4 is sufficiently fast enough for my most demanding need (i.e., 4K video NLE production with Davince Resolve.) Cheers, Jerry - Tokyo.

    The stock M.2 and RAMs have some kind of thermal tape deposited on them. And the film is covering them. Definitely giving a sign that the film is some kind of graphite thermal dissipation sheet. Having the sheet or not... I'm not sure it makes too much difference since there must be almost no airflow in that area. You just need to make sure to use laptop on a hard flat surface and it won't change the thermal characteristics too much even without the film. I think they installed it to ensure longevity of the device.

Have you experimented with various sata cable cable, branded and offbrand like that of HP or Dell on an Asus Tuf f15 laptop with success? Order the specific one for your laptop. The pin out is often different when using other brands. Even if it's an unbranded but made specifically for your laptop should be fine but don't put another model cable in since it can overload, cause a fire and so on.

    Good video but I worry about you not pointing out enough safety precautions to protect it when open or demonstrating them. Static discharge is a huge risk, and you don't have wrist straps, which is fine but you also didn't ground yourself with the metal plating (not connected to the motherboard, there for static protection), and for people with vinyl or carpet floors it's more than easy for them to create dangerous levels of static discharge when they go in and touch components. Even when you disconnected the battery you could've been bumping the leads on transistors, also you didn't cycle out power after disconnecting the battery. I'm not trying to be over critical even though it sounds like that, but when you're making videos to help people do things for themselves, not showing those habits could cause them to damage their laptop and something like static discharge is hard to pinpoint

  • @racimbio

    @racimbio

    Жыл бұрын

    Even though damage through static electricity is rare you are absolutely correct. Having good habits like that are for sure the way to go and I agree with you that it's a good idea to show that on camera. What I usually tell people is that if you do not have an way to ground yourself ( antistatic bracelet, Matt and so on. Before opening your device, touch something metal that is grounded to discharge yourself and also remove the battery to prevent electrical damage while inside. The video though is meant to be short so yes I skipp through much of that information. In 15 years and thousands of units, I'm happy to say I've never once killed any unit or component due to static electricity :) its also way more difficult to kill parts with static then people may think. That being said I do think you are correct and I will do better about showing that part of the process as well. Thank you so much for the feed back I really truly appreciate it. That is critical feedback I want so I can make future videos better for everyone. Much love and merry Christmas.

If you added a secondary drive and left the original drive in, then you will need to make sure your secondary drive shows up in windows. Click on files explorer, click on this pc option on the left . If your new drive shows up, then good. If not, then you will have to format it within disc management and add a drive letter.

    I was stupid, my situation was this: I removed the laptop cover and immediately disconnected the battery cable with a PLASTIC SPATULATOR (NO METAL IN ANY CASE). after that when i was sure i had disconnected the battery cable and the board had no power i decided to add a second ssd, installed it and then reconnected the battery cable to the motherboard. so with a happy face I assembled the laptop (connected the battery and closed the lid) and decided to turn it on, but I tried to turn it on from the battery not directly from the power supply. I spent the whole evening trying to figure out what I did, I thought I broke my laptop. I even thought at first that I did something wrong when I installed the SSD in the second slot. but everything turned out to be easier, I checked the laptop connected directly to the power supply, but WITHOUT PLASTIC BOTTOM - THAT WAS THE MISTAKE If you look closely, you will see that the cover of your laptop has metal strips which as I understand close something on the circuit board, so the laptop will start only with the plastic bottom AND ONLY DIRECTLY FROM THE POWER SUPPLY, because when I tried to turn on the laptop with the plastic bottom, but no power from the power supply unit (from the battery), then it did not turn on.

    If you replaced the drive with a new one, you will now have to install windows on the new one. Here is one explaining how to make a windows install drive. kzread.info/dash/bejne/mqGd0rqPqc6uhcY.htmlsi=2ULnaMYaKzGa0_lw The difference in yours will be that your boot key may be F8 for Asus. If f8 dosnt work for boot selection then within bios It should show a boot option. Often though , if your new drive is blank, it might auto boot into the windows install drive that you make. One more thing to keep in mind, on this laptop there is a second nvme slot on the right. Of you wanted to keep your oroginal drove as an operating system, then just install both the old drive and the new one utilizing both slots. It should auto boot into the original drive like normal. You will just have to format the new drive once in windows and set it as a data drive.

  • @racimbio

    @racimbio

    If you changed the ssd, the ssd had the os on it so you will need to install a new copy of windows onto the new ssd. You can download the media creation tool from Microsoft for windows 10 or windows 11. You will just need a 16 gb USB drive to create the media onto and then boot I to that USB on the laptop which then takes you through the new os install. I can probably make a video to show the process.

    @@Towdawg1 yes there should be 2 slots. In that case don't take out the original drive and just use your new ssd as a secondary storage. Should boot right back into windows that way.
