Good video for getting through the insides of this thing. Mine went from me needing to unplug and plug it again after waking the computer (and sometimes after starting it up) to turning itself off during gaming. Replaced the power adapter but after a while it started turning itself off again. Opened it up, not much dust to speak off, the thermal paste seemed generously applied to me but I replaced it nonetheless. Managed to play for an hour or two uninterrupted but it is the middle of the night. Might get a little desk fan as someone suggested to blow at it from the bottom... pretty ridiculous stuff for $1800. The shit they don't tell you.

  • @parhamsan

Hey, I have played around with cooling the FPGA and from my experience you cannot get away with passive cooling unless you watercool the FPGA with a water block (believe it or not, this is currently what I am doing). kzread.info/dash/bejne/iqyoz6ayd7Tdlag.htmlsi=QhETL0e7aythf389 Since there is a metal casing around the Monitor Mainboard and FPGA you just have an opening to a size of a fan, so even if you find a big heatsink you need to exhaust the hot air from the surroundings with a fan otherwise the heat is going to be trapped inside the monitor. You can give it a try but I have found with even lower RPM on the fans, the FPGA overheats and monitor turns off randomly. Good Luck with everything!

Do you get a OSD (on screen display) when pressing the joypad on the ASUS monitor? i.e. when you press it can you change anything on the menus like the refresh rate and other settings on the monitor? Do you see any menus? Since you are getting power to the monitor, this most likely a loose cable connection. specially check the connection of the cables that have tabs on them. There are 2 on the side and one on the bottom of the monitor refer to minute 3:20 and go forward. Also minute 7:38. Also try a different input, change from DP to HDMI and see if there are any changes. Take the cables out and make sure they are pressed all the way in. @@alihamzah8532 Hey, no the paste should not matter much but for best performance I would suggest using the best performance ones like the "Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut" but it seems your monitor has hardware issue. Unfortunately since I can't see you monitor I can only suggest some stuff: 1-Make sure the fans are clean from dust, blow compressed air and clean both fans. 2-Reseat the heatsink with a new thermal paste and make sure there is good contact between the FPGA chip and the heatsink. 3-When tightening the screws on the heatsink make sure to go X pattern and have them not too tight and not too lose. 4-Inspect inside the heatsink (look inside it); sometimes it gets clogged up with lots of dust, clean it. 5-Is the monitor overclocked to 144Hz or is it running at 120 or 98. Try to factory reset the setting on the monitor. 6-Try to decrease the Brightness and see if it still happens. 7-Is your room temperature too hot, mine is around 28C and with the mod the fans are running at 30-35% fixed and never had a shutdown. If you tried all of these and still have the shutdowns then unfortunately It seems that the damage on your board has already been done. By any chance is you monitor still under warranty? Referring to point 5, 6 and 7. yes it is overclocked at 144Hz with display port. I mostly play warzone so I need the fps. I tried decreasing brightness but it didn't help. Yes my room temperature these days is too hot, in UK these days temps are soaring high and my room is very hot. now you mentioned room temperature, I noticed it never happens in winters but only in summers but the monitor of this calibre should perform in summers too, don't you think? BTW, check out my other video. kzread.info/dash/bejne/dGSDkq2uls7SZqg.html I have made a detailed video with all the required hardware to control the speed of the fans on the PG27UQ monitor with an External PWM fan controller (it should cost you less than $40 without the fans). I know that Asus PG27UQ is a terrific monitor, but with the active cooling the monitor has its own issues and the monitor should still operate in even very hot rooms!!! If you don't mind the noise on the fans, I would suggest a couple of things before buying and replacing the module to save you some money: Do 1, 2, 3, 4 steps I suggested on the previous post first (I still think your monitor should not shut down unless the FPGA reaches 100C, Also see this page (was very helpful for me): www.reddit.com/r/Monitors/comments/kp16oe/make_the_pg27uq_the_quality_monitor_it_is_meant/ 1-Change the fans first: www.ebay.com/itm/255059081488 Original fan model number is EF70151S1-C010-S9A DC12V 4.80W 4PIN (SUNON) 2-See If you do the mod to change the speed of the fans manually to lays say 50%. Unfortunately As far as I know there are no other ways to control the speed on the fans on the monitor. 3-Change the FPGA module if you think it is faulty. The problem is, there are different Rev models on the PG27UQ (manufactured on different years with different Rev levels) so buying a new FPGA module might no be compatible with your current monitor. www.ebay.com/itm/184397782296 (The FPGA Module but the price is $600 USD!!!!) This will help you find the FPGA part number pcper.com/2018/06/asus-rog-swift-pg27uq-27-4k-144hz-g-sync-monitor-true-hdr-arrives-on-the-desktop/2/ One other thing I realized is that mounting the monitor on an arm runs the monitor cooler since the original stand blocks some of the air sucked in from the middle of the monitor (to the fan that cools the FPGA). Just for testing, take out the original stand and see if the monitor shuts down or not. Or use a 5V or 12V USB fan to blow some air into the middle of the monitor. www.amazon.ca/Black-Silent-Computer-Cooling-Cooler/dp/B0192WNM9C/ref=sr_1_11?crid=1HVD0NPIE5SOL&keywords=usb+fan+pc&qid=1657664155&sprefix=usb+fan+pc%2Caps%2C65&sr=8-11 I still think there is something preventing your FPGA from cooling down properly. As I mentioned my room temperature is hot too (around 28-29C) but before and after the Thermal paste replacement and the mod I never had a single shutdown issue. The only difference after the mod is that the fans are running at lower RPM and the monitor is whisper quiet now!!! See last post on this forum (exactly your issue): forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/asus-rog-pg27uq-fan-noise-shutdown-problem.18897809/ Good luck, I am always here to assist!!!

Thermal paste don't dry out otherwise every computer routinely needs them replaced. The only way it dries out is air gets in there. So how does air get in there? It is the cardboard shroud that funnels hot air out the bottom. You need to squish it down so it doesn't try to lift the heatsink off of the FPGA. As you know the heatsink is held down with springs and not the screws. That is why any thermal problem fixes itself when you replace the thermal paste; it is because you reseat the heatsink to the FPGA and not because of the new thermal paste. I have two PG27UQ's. One made in Japan and another from Taiwan. (The Japan version allows me to change the Reference White (nits) and the Taiwan does not btw.) The Japan heat shroud/manifold is shaped exactly rectangular whereas the Taiwan is rectangular but a bit oval. Squish it down so it doesn't rest on the connectors which applies a slight force which lifts the heatsink from the FPGA over time.

Hey, you are a lucky lad, not everyone is having the same experience of having quiet fans. By the way, the monitor you suggested is very similar to pg27uq with updated io but not the same. The pg27uqr is hdr600 vs hdr1000 on pg27uq, thanks for the suggestion. it's a very tempting monitor!

@@Tuskabanana Oh, IC, well I can't check the Panel for you if I am not there :), if you are buying the monitor in person then check for bad pixels and make sure all the accessories are there. As for the Vesa mount there are plenty of options to replace the standoffs so once you have the monitor I can guide you. To start with, the screws are probably type M4 (but again don't take my word on it) google is your friend!!! What I can tell is the standoff are 30mm long in total (10mm screw length, 20mm body length) and I saw tons of options on amazon with a similar standoff sizes, so you should be ok. Good luck with everything!!!

@@parhamsan ok thank you very much :=) yeah you are right with the screws, they are m4, i read it in the manual. So it is ok to use the vesa mount without standoffs at the start, until we find another solution. ah ok so i can buy other standoffs on amazon
