"Yeah dude... go out there, do some astrophotography!" Great advice. I love the enthusiasm! Honestly, I spent way too long thinking about astro before doing astro. now that I'm in the weeds with astro, I feel like I understand my camera so much better. We've been through some shit together! haha. Pro tip: Next time, go east instead of north (unless you have a particular subject in mind). Since you're from LA, going east means the Milky Way core will be higher in the sky than if you go north, which will push it down aaaaand also you won't be fighting with the trees for horizon interest.
