After years following F1, this is the first time I’ve seen a real explanation of aero details from someone who knows what they’re talking about. Please continue that analysis as the season progresses, I’m sure many people will appreciate the information. Now all we need is a real engine expert!

I think the high centre of the nose, and front wing flaps is being very clever, using almost a ground effect for downforce, but keeping the critical smooth fast air to scoop this cleanly under the nose, but a groundforce effect to pull the nose down. This gives a consistent unimpeded airflow under the suspension and directly under the main floor. And the cleaner the direct airflow from under the front wing to the floor means the underfloor venturi's will work more efficiently and harder. I think the sharkfins ontop the sidepods venting hot, less dense air means their is in effect less heavy dense air for the ground effect to pull against, again making the venturi's work much more effectively in generating downforce. The deep aero undercut is pulling cold dense air into it, and channelling that away from the sidepods hot air stream along with activating the rear floor downforce. I think its so clever using almost 2 separate aero systems at once, and the groundeffect boost could be a huge jump on the rest.

The one thing I have always wanted to ask someone like you is regarding turning vanes/vortices/vortex generators. When on an F1 car is it a turning vane (knowing you will always get tumbling airflow) and when is it a vortex generator? As in when do you steer the air and when/why would you just create a vortex/vortices? Thanks, Simon, Christchurch, New Zealand.

I would LOVE (after all the ‘22s have been released of course) maybe an analysis comparing design from let’s say the 90s vs what has just been released this year. Fascinating!

Great great analysis… the only thing missing really was a small conclusion with a recap and your opinion. I think that would be a great addition!
