You don't have to disassemble the Asterisk hinge to install the lockouts. You just bend it all the way and slide the shim into the opening.

I'm 6'2 and have been wearing the K8's for years. They are very comfortable and work well.

@@cowpker4life333 Honestly they are both the same as far as design and function but I like carbon so I went with the K8's. I still have them and wear them on every ride which is always 7-8 hours without issue.

Asterisk padding is excellent, quality-wise. Though it is rather scant. POD padding is thicker and denser, which makes it more comfortable. However, it has come off a few times from wear. I had to resort to 3M outdoor double-side tape to make the patches stick. Also, POD's velcro is garbage. It stops sticking after 2 dozen cycles. My 200hr PODs are on the 4th set of velcro. 100hr Asterisks are on the original velcro, and it sticks 80% as well as a brand new set. Also, worth noting that Asterisk in made in America (albeit California... bleh). That's why you can send them in. The factory is here. PODs are imported.

The insurance thing is nearly impossible and they only mention it as a sales trick. I tried multiple insurances, 2 different physical therapists, multiple doctors from different places, and I already have a knee injury on file. Doctors and physical therapist say that knee braces when your knees aren't seriously messed up can do more damage and they don't understand the off-road motorcycling sport.

100% on your DR. Find one who is “moto-friendly”. It is all in how it is “coded” when filing the claim.

I have a set of the carbon cell love them I used them for hiking and snowboarding and single track ripping

I’m looking for all around knee braces I can use for riding and hiking. My knee starts hurting after about an hour of hiking, i might look into the carbon cell

Chase, I am like you as 5’7” tall and have 16 1/4 calfs. So I was going to go with the Asterisk Cell, but thinking about the Pod 2.0 K8 as I just got back into riding after 10 years away, and I am still working my way into shape. In my 60’s now and I ride mostly single track in Michigan but hoping to make some trips to Utah, Idaho and Colorado for some mountain single track. So I like the thin, shorter, lighter Asterisk Cell but also afraid that with exercising over the winter if my muscle change a little would the Pod with it’s flexible cuffs be better? I also just purchased from RM the Gaerne Fastback enduro boots and had to move the top two straps to the largest setting to accommodate my knee pads. Your thoughts please. Thanks in advance. Mike

You have to have really exceptional insurance for these to be covered and even then the doctors won't want to give you some crazy motorcycle brace

@@daxadventure I contacted my insurance and for the $900 braces I get about $91 covered by insurance! I have a Meniscal tear in my left knee!

BC BS of Michigan. Have had 2 sets covered now over the years. No fuss. Dr. script and file insurance. Have paid for both sets. I did wait until our deductible was already met for the yr. both times.

Hi Mike. I wouldn't worry too much about the shin plate not fitting if your calf size changed. I would still go with the Carbon Cell if you have really big calves. Just use the size chart to know what size you'll need. The durability on mine has been good and you can always send them to Asterisks to have them refurbished if they did get worn. Mike from Asterisk is a really good guy and wants to take care of his customers. - Chase
