I love your “versus” series! And I love the fact that you are giving your opinion and not just reading the brand’s marketing stuff. I love, love, love the Tech 7. It is so comfortable out of the box and it stays that way. It also really locks into the bike so well when standing. I also love the price. I do not like any bootie (like on the Tech 10), so that kills it for me. I ride trails and enduro, so I can’t stand the stiffness of the Tech 10. If you want the stiffness and support of the Tech 10, then IMO go to the Gaerne SG-12 or the Sidi Crossfire 3 SRS - those two boots are out-of-this world spectacular.

I too ride off road/woods and am on my second set of Tech 7s. My oldest son swears by 10s but he is a diehard motocross rider. Tech 7s are great out of the box. I have 4 screws in my right foot as well as slightly wide feet and the 7s are really comfortable.

i have a tech10 for 1 year and bought the second one a month ago. use for motocross only. they are the best, to be sure, and they are not rigid enough to make piloting difficult. but there are problems. I already lost one of the fasteners riding and the rubber sole of the inner boot took off. however, there is no better boot in my opinion, for motocross. thanks for the reviews, they are excellent!

I’ve had my tech 7s for about a year now. I love the fit and they are super confortable. My only complaint is the opening like you mentioned. I have larger calf and wear knee braces. I have the top buckle all the way out and the Velcro barely touches. Other then that a good boot.

One item I've never heard mentioned between these two boots are the buckle locations. The tech 10 has the uppermost two buckles located away from the side of the boot. This feature can-and will-lessen the chance of buckle snag and or damage, (which I have had happen) this is more of a consideration for hard technical riding.

I use Tech10's on my Supermoto, love the boot. Main issue i have is the fact that the soles, and i don't mean the black inserts, aren't easily changed by yourself. You've to send them to Alpinestars for a sole-replacement. For the Tech7 there are companies like Vibram, that make Supermoto-soles. Just like a Sidi Crossfire 2 has. For the Tech10's there are no alternatives to sending your boots to Alpinestars. Other than that, the Tech10's are great!

I wasn’t afraid of the price just the fitment so I stepped down to tech 7 also the dealer didn’t have Astars gear. Dream boot destroyed quickly 😢

I absolutely love my tech 7’s, they’re super comfortable out of the box and are perfect for the riding I do. I find that they run slightly large and I’m between a 10.5 and 11 and the size 10 Tech 7 fit my foot absolutely perfect and if I didn’t try them on before I purchased them online I would have got an 11 and it would have been too big and sloppy. I just bought a brand new pair of Tech 7’s for $299 and with that price a brand new pair was too good to pass up. I tried a pair of Tech 10’s and they were too much for the riding I do and the price wasn’t worth it to me. Regardless they’re both amazing boots and that’s why they’re highly recommended by a lot of people.

Currently running Tech7s and overall I am very pleased with them. They broke in faster than I initially thought they would, and I like the support and peg feel they offer. Plus I love the way they look. I did have to go up 1/2 size to get the best fit though. (11, my foot is 10.5) Compared to my SG-12s they have a slightly higher toe box so shifting took me bit of time to readjust to. I only have two minor complaints with the 7s ....one, they squeak A LOT when walking. Second, (and my old Tech 3s from 1990 had ths same issue), they really start to stink faster than my SG-12s. Not sure why, and I don't have the issue with my shoes or work boots. It may have something to do with how Alpinestars processes the leather. Overall they are excellent and very durable boots for the price.

Great review, thank you. My problem is that I wear a size 15 so it's hard to find boots that big. I bought the "The Rider" Oneils but on my right foot, they pressed in around the ankle in a weird way. So I bought the Tech 3s. They felt SO much more comfortable but felt like a ski boot. I couldnt get my big foot under the shift lever so I extended it. Still, they are too awkward and stiff to wear to say, the grocery store or to walk around. But also the arch on my right boot pressed in and hurt my foot. So, I bought the Forna Adventure boot. They said it was a 15 but in reality it's a 14. Too small, but very easy to operate my shifter. So, now I'm going to buy the Tech 7s and then open up my own boot shop to sell everything else... :) UPDATE: The Tech 7s are just as stiff as the Tech 3s to me. Why cant they make a comfortable walkable MX boot? Forma is WAY too weak and light. Techs are way too stiff. Sidi is weak too..

Its between sidis top model or the tech 7s for me. I got the 7s and think im just going to keep them and call it good. The 7s are crazy comfortable. Bought some O'neals and sent them right back. I've always use Alpine stars and probably would've been fine with my tech fives from 15 years ago, but I decided I get a size bigger. I'm definitely happy with this text sevens so far. If i ride more maybe ill get the atajos for comparison. Think im good off the 10s tbh.

My first pair of boots was a first gen set of tech tens. They were absolutely awesome great protection and fit and durability. I think I got close to ten years out of those boots. My next set was a pair of fox instinct offroads. They weren’t bad but no alpinestars. I went from them to a tech 7. Now don’t get me wrong for the price point the tech 7s are a fantastic boot so comfy straight out of the box. Unfortunately for me the heal float and the fact that somewhere on the boot kept catching on my plastics badly I upgraded to the tech 10 newest spec. Yes very stiff straight off the bat but once worn in unreal I feel a lot more stable and protected in the tens.

This comparison boils down to performance. Best performing protective boot = 12 Best performing feel = 7 Which performance feature do you want? I have two 7s. I have a problem “OG” with swollen and inflamed foot/toe joints. The 12s were slightly more irritating than the 7s. I’m a dual sport rider and the steel toe ain’t allowed in some restaurants I hit up. Also being 5’6”. When I’m in rock gardens the fist thing that touches is the toe. For talker guys, it’s the sole. Steel toes have zero grip on smooth rounded boulders. So for shorter guys that ride in those conditions, a rubber toe is safer than a steel toe that slips. That said, My next boot will be the Tech 7 Drystar whenever they are in stock. BTW, why doesn’t RMATVMC show sizes 7,8 and the larger sizes as options?

Honestly my question is more about the difference between the tech 7, and the tech 7 enduro. Anyone have any experience with both. The idea of having more "tread" on the enduro intrigues me, but is it worth the extra money? I ride trails, and desert, so I do some walking around during my rides. My current bike is a 2009 yz450f, if that matters. Also my current boot is Forma terrain. Which I am not happy with because they are wearing blisters in my ankles because they dont have a hinge.

R Burnside I have both the regular Tech 7 and the Tech 7 Enduro. I’m in SoCal riding trails, mountains, desert and some hard enduro. No MX. I ride a KTM 500 EXC-F (if that matters). Both boots are insanely comfortable right out of the box, and stay that way. Both lock into the bike super well when standing. I notice a difference on the sole of the two boots in two different ways: #1 the Enduro does provide better grip when having to walk, push, or rescue the bike. For me that’s less than 1% of the time. #2 The tread grooves on the Enduro sometimes grab on the foot pegs when I don’t want them to. I really don’t like that. I run the IMS Core Enduro foot pegs, if that matters. Because of that, my Enduro boots are my backup boots and my regular Tech 7’s are my go to’s. When my regular Tech 7’s wear out, I will buy another pair of those and my Enduros will remain my backup boot.

@@dannuthals7045 Thank you very much for the reply! I didnt think about the enduro sole grabbing the foot peg unexpectedly. I've noticed that happen when I've ridden dual sports with hiking boots. (don''t judge too harshly, I did it when I was commuting to the grocery store or something. ;D) I also have IMS footpegs, and have never had a problem with traction on the pegs themselves.

R Burnside Right on! I’ve ridden my bike with hiking boots too, when riding around town and that “grab” is exactly the problem that I’ve had with the Enduros. A minor issue, but something to be aware of. I find my riding style is that I will keep my boot on the foot pegs and slide them from spot to spot. I don’t usually pick my fit up and move them. Hence, that is why I have that issue. I try to ride standing as much as possible, so the last thing I want to do is take my feet off the pegs, even if only for a moment. Bad things happen when my feet aren’t on the pegs. 😷

@@dannuthals7045 my experience is the same I have both, I prefer the enduro as I'm constantly doing bike recovery on hills etc. But I agree the foot peg grab is a side effect. Depends on your riding. If you stay on your pegs/ riding go with regular. If your always attempting obstacles and hills your likely not going to make go with enduro. That being said these boots are super comfortable but I'm on my 3rd pair and my riding buddies are still on 1st pair of SG-12. That will be my next boot.
