Assistant to DP - How To Make the Jump

Фильм және анимация

Episode 100!
Figured it was about time to give you all a run down of my experiences otherwise I would just be another KZreadr you watch... And I don't even like calling myself a KZreadr. Treat this as an "About me" video BUT we always have to have some value in these videos and so, let's talk about making that difficult jump from AC to DP. It's very hard to do, so here's how I knew when was the right time. Hopefully it helps you work out when is right for you if this is the path you are taking.
Hope you got something from this video and if you have any ideas of things that you want to see in a video, leave a comment below and let me know!

    @@KolotovGleb for sure! A Prep Tech (as they are usually called over here in Australia) are the people to prepare the kits going out for hire for jobs. So you'll work at a camera rental house and prepare the cameras and any accessories for jobs. You'll also maintain the gear, clean it and sometimes do some simple repairs. ☺️

    I'm so glad I found my way to your video! I recently graduated from a film & video production program and due to the pandemic, I had to leave New York. I'm staying with family in Virginia and the job opportunities are almost slim unless you have experience. As hungry as I am to get it out into the industry to start on the path to becoming a DP. Would you mind sharing your experiences with film school and how it did or didn't help you? And would you also share what you do during these quarantine times to stay sharp and improve your craft around the house? I would love to hear any suggestions to practice and keep active in cinematography. Thank you

    Really been enjoying your channel. I see a lot of KZreadrs who try to be filmmakers and then filmmakers who do KZread to share their knowledge. It is a lot more genuine hearing and learning things from you! I am planning on going to school for Communications and then hopefully finding work in production as an AC eventually. I am wondering what you would recommend doing to start learning and getting experience. I just booked my first official job for a wedding and would like to find some work as a PA on sets but there aren't many nearby.

    Yes! I want to know your experience about the extensive course you took! I'm trying to get into an DP course in Portugal!

  • @flickcine

    @flickcine

    3 жыл бұрын

    It wasn’t quite an extensive course. It was a broad film course so it covered the basics of everything and aimed to set you up to start trying to find work. It was great! But not focused on cinematography specifically. There is one course here for cinematography in Australia at AFTRS in Sydney, however I’ve not done that course. Man, it looks good though!

    @@flickcine Thanks for the feedback! It looks like a similar course i took here in Portugal, it was a 3 year professional course equivalent to the 10-12 grade, it also covered the basics of everthing in general, and it was also a bit aimed to find work. Well, it is quite expensive for a 1 year course it is arround 2000€, but the reviews I've heard are preatty good.

    Hi there! Thanks for the kind words. The tafe course I did was in Melbourne at Swinburne. It was a number of years ago now so I'm not sure how it is run now. I have however done a few short courses at AFTRS in Sydney and they were so so fantastic!!

My local TAFE has a cert III in screen in media too and my new day job is pretty flexible so hope to do some study this year either way. Thank you.
