Assassins Creed: Shadows turns DEI / Woke - Drama & Yasuke ‘First Black Samurai’ Reaction
Ойындар
Just a few hours ago we got our first look at Assassins Creed: Shadows. The Official World Premiere Trailer showed us that we will get a main male protagonist based on the black Samurai called Yasuke. And a girl who is a Ninja or Shinobi of some kind. And obviously the anti-woke side of the internet is up in arms. In this video I react to the reactions of people on the internet to the new trailer. With a strong focus on right wing conservatives.
I hope you enjoy.

Honestly, the only issues I would have with this is if it's true there was a completely other character written and it was race-washed for more inclusion. If you want to be inclusive, knock yourself out it a refreshing change from the norm, but do it in your own work. Don't add your personal biases to other work or alter the lore of existing stories just to shove your message through. People don't like that.

I generally agree, but. I'll use an example to illustrate my counter argument. There's this show called Liberty kids that I watched as a kid. The show is based during the American revolution but one of the main characters is black... Now you could easily say "this is historical revisionism, that kid would've been a slave, they're white washing American history" yet I would never say those things because I think it's important for black boys to have a character to look up to especially when it's about American history, black kids just like white kids should look to the American revolution and see it's potential, and the liberty it brought and how the goals of the American revolution are unfinished. It's the same way with any other fiction, if the message is worth it, if it enstills the right values in children, all "historical revisionism" is worth it. Changing the past in fiction is necessary and liberating.

@@apolloforabetterfuture4814 In a way that is still considered an original work, my point was more geared towards things like if they try to deny established facts or distort established history for some self-gratifying or political purpose. It's okay to use established stories to show a different perspective, but there are ways to do this that feel genuine and not like you're using it as a mouthpiece for your own purposes. Take the Netflix show about Cleopatra, for example. It's a clear example of how not to do it. The writer wasn't trying to show a different perspective but changed history to suit their own beliefs. The writer went out of her way to tell people, 'This is the real way it should be,' and obviously, people had a problem with it. The show itself oozes with their self-entitlement, thinking they wrote the next Shakespeare and that they're leading a new revolution.
I really hope they have a line like "Actually Im technically not a samurai" - Yasuke Shadow. Just to fuck with them

Remember kids: yasuke was never a samurai in real life, only a retainer. Even Japanese commenters on the trailer comments sections is calling bs. Also it’s Ubisoft, they are their own red flag. Much virtue, very signaling, very wow.
Getting enraged by a game trailer is meta right now, probably that's why it's ao popular ....
Only if Tom Hanks is the new black panther
The chances of this game being any good are slim to none. Ubisoft can't make good games anymore.

Exactly it’s not about history so why does history matter so much to Ubislop NOW that a black is involved? 😂 Damn, Gamers back in AC2,3,4 begged for historical accuracy, it was so important, yeah no. So why did Ubisoft only NOW change the course, when history inaccuracies proofed successful before since it grants more freedom?
Of all your videos, I initially thought I'd be disinterested in one about a game. I was wrong. So gamers are real sticklers for historical accuracy eh? You're right, there are some are waiting for things to be outraged about, which happen to be, for the most part, basic unemployed INCELS lurking, living in their parents homes, and triumphantly defending "history". I'm so glad I can rest at night knowing such people protect our collective culture from ... a game.
"The most amusing replies are the ones that take into question the, of course, historical accuracy of this character. It may be tempting to try to argue with these people, for a lot of reasons, most of all that history and facts are on your side. This character appears to be based on Yasuke, a real guy who actually existed in the historical record. He was an African retainer for warlord Oda Nobunaga, meaning that he was indeed a samurai. Yasuke is a well known enough figure that he’s the subject of a Netflix anime that is named after him. He’s also a character in Nioh, which was developed by the Japanese studio Team Ninja. You can repeat those facts until you’re blue in the face to people who are determined to be angry about a black man having a leading role in this game, but it won’t matter. You should just save your breath and look forward to seeing whether or not Ubisoft fumbles this very easy layup. Racism isn’t a logical position, so you cannot defeat it with logic. Facts just don’t matter to a racist, especially not the tedious kind of racist who makes their home in video game culture. There will always be a new hair to split, a new way for this kind of person to object to a black man being in this video game. You can bring up the other fantabulous aspects of the Assassin’s Creed franchise that clash with history: the existence of the titular Creed and the Knights Templar; whatever the fuck was going on with the Apples of Eden; the series’ depiction of Karl Marx as a devotee of democracy rather than advocating for an armed revolution of the proletariat. It does not matter because the people who are mad about this have already made up their mind. To them, Japan is a place that does not and has never had black people live there or make their homes there at any point in time-especially in history. The anger about “historical accuracy” is just a slightly more reasonable smokescreen for their real objection: having to see a black person at all." - Gita

@@journeyman66 Oh it is, and one more reason why I'm not going to be giving them my money.
Not only is he marketable as a famous and iconic character in a lot of media of the era, but he is also not historically important enough to be tied down by any historic "duties" or events. The reality is that Yasuke, while a real and documented person that japanese historians agree existed and fought as a samurai for Oda Nobunaga, he was not legendary. He was not some great hero. There are like a dozen references or mentions of him through out several historic documents and that is it. Besides his appearance and position in Nobunaga's court, 99% about Yasuke is rhetorical and supposition. Which makes him PERFECT for the role, as he they can have as much creative freedom for his plot as they want. There was just not much documentation on Yasuke's real life story, so I don't understand how people can be so mad about any changes that are made besides the core fundamentals. This being said the game will still suck likely
If the game ends up being good then i don't think anyone will really care if the guy is black. Its just the implications of where the game is going/end up and the woke environment we're living in. I want to feel like I'm in feudal Japan and playing as a black dude with an African accent who apparently isn't even a samurai ruins that immersion. I think most people don't actually care you play as a woman. Most of the criticism has been about the dude. There's some badass female protagonist out there and I'm sure she will be one.

Honestly think A portrayal of the first black samurai is cool haven't seen it before in media other than the Netflix show. My issue is the game itself AAA Assassin's Creed trailer from my perspective "shadow drops" last game had a cookie cutter protagonist and the gameplay felt like it was on rails & the Ghost Recon series I simply lost intrest. I've said it many times and will say it again Outlaws will be the last Goobisoft game I will ever play.
People crying about video game characters is as pathetic as a person can get don’t play the damn game then
for people saying black samurai is fake and what so ever.. Yasuke born C. 1550s he was the first African non japanese samurai he served the daimyo Oda Nobunaga in Japan during the Sengoku ( Warring states) period. his story began around 1579 in Edo Japan. now i get that some people are disappointed cuz people wanted 100% Japanse Assassins Creed i get it i got the full series so yeh. But don't say Yasuke is fake..
This video is a breath of fresh air. People used to just see a trailer, get hyped (or not), get the game, loved it or hated it. These days, people see a trailer and they already KNOW that it is a shit game and it is DEI. They got laser focus to tear everything apart that is shown in the trailer and tell the world that THEIR opinion matter and that's the truth, the only truth. This is still a videogame.. and we don't know NOTHING about it, only the trailer which I'm really proud of actually because one of my best friend was the lead project manager in the creation of it. People need to stop acting like little kids in the playground playing "who shouts THIS IS WOKE louder". Especially that Geeks + Gamers guy who tries to capitalise his f*cking opinion. It is extremely excruciating. Thank you for your work Sneezy.
Yasuke was the only African and first non-Japanese samurai. If anyone has facts to the contrary, please share. If this game's story was about Yasuke then ok. It's not. It feels like Ubisoft included a black samurai for the sake of inclusion. If feels forced. When inclusion feels forced many people call it woke. I don't have a problem with any ethnicity. Casting Tom Hanks as the Black Panther could cause a similar type of unhappiness. (Someone used this analogy below and I liked it!). If the game is good, it probably won't matter that much to most people. It's concerning to me that Ubisoft has taken this position. I wish they would focus more on game development and leave the politics out. If they are thinking this will help their market share, it won't. Demographics prove this.
Love how people are so upset about the idea of a black samurai even though the dude was real and actually existed. Like if you don't like black people just say that, I'm almost 32 years old, it's nothing I haven't heard before 😅.

It distorts people's perception of history. No black samurai has ever or will ever exist. Here are the facts: Yasuke arrived in Japan in 1579 in service of the Italian Jesuit missionary Alessandro Valignano. He accompanied Valignano when the latter came to the Kyoto area in March 1581 and his appearance caused a lot of interest with the local people. When Yasuke was presented to Oda Nobunaga, the Japanese Daimyō thought that his skin must have been coloured with black ink. Nobunaga had him strip from the waist up and made him scrub his skin. These events are recorded in a 1581 letter of the Jesuit Luís Fróis to Lourenço Mexia, and in the 1582 Annual Report of the Jesuit Mission in Japan, also by Fróis. "When Nobunaga realized that the African's skin was indeed black, he took an interest in him." According to a Japanese accounting of Yaskue states: On the 23rd of the 2nd month 1581, a black page came from the Christian countries. The man was healthy with a good demeanour and Nobunaga praised Yasuke's strength. Some say that Yasuke could speak or was taught Japanese, and it is stated Nobunaga enjoyed talking with him. However, it is more likely that a Jesuit missionary translated for them, in order to control the dialogue as they were not ones to miss an opportunity to interact with Nobunaga in order to advance their mission. Reportedly, Nobunaga's nephew gave him a sum of money at this first meeting, for his travels, and on 14 May, Yasuke departed for Echizen Province with Fróis and the other Christians. During this trip, they met local warlords such as Shibata Katsutoyo, Hashiba Hidekatsu, and Shibata Katsuie, They returned to Kyoto on 30 May. At some point, although when is not exactly clear, Yasuke entered Nobunaga's service. Yasuke was also mentioned in the prototype of Shinchō ki owned by Sonkeikaku Bunko , the archives of the Maeda clan. According to this, Yasuke was given his own residence and a short, ceremonial katana by Nobunaga. Nobunaga also assigned him the duty of weapon bearer (much to the annoyance of actual samurai) Here is where the facts change to a more fantasised version of events: Nobunaga had a propensity for the unique, and he was particularly interested in all things foreign. Clearly he was fascinated by Yasuke, and this was documented to be to the chagrin of many of his top generals such as Akechi Mitsuhide, who is reported to have been disgusted by the site of Yasuke, and saw him as nothing more than a wild beast. After the Battle of Tenmokuzan, Nobunaga led his force, including Yasuke, and inspected the former territory of the Takeda clan. So people make the assumption that Yasuke actually fought in this battle, and that he donned Samurai armour and fought as a samurai hero. A sword bearer (Yasuke) stays behind with the general camp, near to the lord, they don't go out on the battlefield, and there is no record of Yasuke fighting any battle. There is also no record of Yasuke receiving martial arts training, or use of the Japanese sword, either when in the service of Nobunaga or the years prior. The truth is that his time with Nobunaga was limited, as they first met in 1581 and Oda Nobunaga was dead a year later. This is hardly enough time for Yasuke to be trained to be the great warrior. Yasuke as a Samurai: Now for either commercial purpose, or some social equity rationale, some people attempt to equate Yasuke as a non Japanese Samurai in the same way the English sailor William Adams (Pilot) was later viewed. However, Adams was actually presented Samurai status, and there is no record of Yasuke being bestowed similar Samurai status. The facts are that Oda Nobunaga made him a servant for a few months. A few months... not a lifetime of service dedicated to serving his lord, ready to give his life in the service of the Oda. Another fact that is clear; Yasuke was kept around as a talking piece, an oddity for Nobunaga to show off, much in the same way he enjoyed irking other Daimyo by showing them Azai Nagamasa's gold plated skull. Despite modern versions of Yasuke, if he was this great Samurai some would have you believe, then it stands to reason that he would have either fought to the death at Honnoji but instead was alleged to have been taken by Mitsuhide troops soon after the Honnoji incident, but Akechi had his men return him to the Christian missionaries. All that is known about the fate of Yaskue , is that he was seen with the Christian Missionaries after Nobunagas death and reportedly fled the country soon after. So while people may attempt to change the story of Yasuke to suit their agenda, the truth is that such blatantly false attempts to rewrite history are pure revisionism and nothing more. Faking history because it makes you "feel good" does nothing but a disservice to all students of the culture, the Japanese nation and the historical record. In fiction i believe it is 100% fine to take these liberties but the amount of people who believe these stories as fact is shocking

@@thehyperboliccookout683 He is wrong and I have a better comment: Yasuke served Oda Nobunaga as soldier. Yasuke was not a Samurai, but a weapon bearer. I.e. he was allowed to wear a weapon, but he was not granted the status Samurai, nor was he a nobility (which requires Japanese blood). This is a common mistake. Yasuke came to Japan with the Nanban slave traders (Portuguese). They sold him to Oda Nobunaga who accepted him as slave. He granted him the status of an weapon bearer, which resulted in a rather good position for Yasuke.Yasuke served Oda in some battles unti the Honnō-ji Incident. The Honnō-ji Incident was the assassination of Oda Nobunaga at the Honnō-ji temple in Kyoto on 21 June 1582. Nobunaga was betrayed by his general Akechi Mitsuhide during his campaign to consolidate centralized power in Japan under his authority. Mitsuhide ambushed the unprotected Nobunaga at Honnō-ji and his eldest son Oda Nobutada at Nijō Palace which resulted in both committing seppuku. After Nobunaga was defeated by by the Samurai lord Akechi Mitsuhide, Yasuke was captured and likely killed by his troops. Akechi Mitsuhide allegedly called him a non-human animal. Akechi Mitsuhide, next to many others, disliked any foreign presence on the Japanese archipelago. Additionally, Akechi Mitsuhide disliked Oda Nobunaga, who disrespected the imperial court and did not pay as much interest in protecting traditional Japanese values as others, especially Akechi Mitsuhide. Akechi Mitsuhide After this, no historical mentions of Yasuke exist anymore. While some suggest that he was deported from Japan, most suggest that he got killed
