Fun fact: Haytham actually didn't know that that correspondence was there. He was internally hoping there would be some dirt on Washington, and he found the gold mine. He did know that Washington was responsible for the initial attack when Connor was a child though, and he hid that because he didn't think Connor would believe him.

Noah Watts is such an awesome VA man. That "choose to follow me, or oppose me, and I will kill you" is just such a great delivery.

Fun fact: Haytham did care about Connor. Not enough thay he would betray the Templars and save his son Darth Vader style, but enough he genuinely tried everything he could to find another way that did not mean having to kill his son. His newfound paternal instincts and what turned out be some, albeit minor, if not genuine love for his son. So much so, its heavily implied that he held back in their fight and in Connor kill him. There was genuineness behind Haytham as he said "son". 2:01

Hence why I view Connor as nothing but a good-hearted yet misguided fool. He and his father could’ve been the example of how Assassins and Templars can work together for the betterment of the people, but he threw it all away over his false notions of Freedom. He saw Washington’s hypocrisy firsthand in this scene, and yet his first instinct is to sweep it under the rug and continue to work on Washington’s interests. He lashes out at his father in denial of an obvious truth, and in his overzealous quest to kill Lee, he kills his own father in the end.

@@oliverrasmusson2362 Peace requires order and structure, which is why it requires authority. Using Precursor artifacts to, how you foolishly phrase it, "enslave" people, would mean world peace without bloodshed. Which is good, yet is portrayed as bad, because scum like Blackbeard or criminal gang leaders in NY didn't give consent.

What happened after Connor left, Washington: "Damn, he has a temper." Haytham: "That comes from his mother." Washington: "Daddy issues?" Haytham: "Didn't even know the boy existed until recently." Washington: "So you are the one who ordered my assassination, eh? Guards!" Haytham: "Whoopsy-daisy!"

I get that Connor was feeling emotional here, but I would have liked to also hear him say: Connor: "Do you know why I blamed Lee? Hours before the attack, I (a small child at the time) was playing with my friends in the woods when he snuck up on me, held be up to a tree by my throat, told me to pass a warning on to the villages leaders, then knocked me out, all while flanked by a few of your other buddies (whom I've mercifully rid the world of). I woke just in time to smell the smoke, see the flames, and race into the village where I saw my mother burn to death. That is why I hate that man and wish to rid the world of him. He may not have been responsible for *that* attack, but he is no less a violent lunatic." He probably wouldn't have worded it like that, but you get the drift.

True, but Washington is significantly more guilty than any of the Templars when it comes to Connor and his people. The Templars actually treated the natives with a lot of respect.

@@kalamari3288 Fair enough. It's just that in this particular instance, I wish Haytham would get a chance to confront some of the crazier or more violent members of his organization.Or, having spent hours playing the game and waiting for him and Connor to properly discuss the whole event, that we'd get to see the how the man would respond when learning his trusted friend and comrade *throttled his son when he was just a kid.*

That is a very articulate response but in the end it wouldn't have worked any better than his simpler response. His father was trying to manipulate him with this information as connor saw it through. Trying to argue with people like this in this kind of situations is pointless so trying to explain yourself with long arguments would be like talking to a wall. Better to keep it simple but effective.

Haytham was just defending all along the fight, giving Lee time to escape. I don't think he meant to kill Connor. However, Connor fought hard to kill Haytham. In the novel, Connor mentions that Haytham have let him win the fight, else Connor would've easily died.

But the game shows us otherwise. Connor literally says, "Surrender, and I will spare you" Also Haytham was choking his son to death. Connor ended him by using hidden blade. The books might say that Haytham didn't want to kill Connor. But his last moments suggested otherwise.
