Assassin's Creed Shadows is an upcoming open-world action RPG developed by Ubisoft. Players will be able to embody two distinct characters, a Japanese shinobi, Naoe, and a real-life historical samurai, Yasuke. Hear from Game Director Charles Benoit and Associate Narrative Director Brooke Davies as they breakdown both characters and how they contrast with each other to offer a fresh gameplay and narrative perspective from both shinobi and samurai. Assassin's Creed Shadows launches on November 15 for PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series S|X, and PC.

But Yasuke wasn't a Samurai? He served Nobunaga, yes. But he was not someone who was allowed to carry weapons or fight on his behalf.

His primary duty was to carry weapons, Oda trusted him with his life because his sword bearer could easily take Nobunaga's place. Yasuke was given land and a stipend but he was likely never given the samurai title

@TT09B5 No, the actual information. He was an actual person, and yes, there have been many theories. But he was a servant and retainer to the Japanese dayimo Oda Nobunaga. There have been some shows/animes that depicted he was a samurai, but he never was. This game is pretty much an addition to the anime lore. A fictional story based on the person. Also, not all of the left fascists, Fascism is a far right, authorization characterized by a dictatorial leader.

You can play a assassin ninja AND a samurai, pretty much what Syndicate wanted to do, a brute-like assassin and a stealth focused assassin (which didn't work a lot in Syndicate), so the whole premise is the same, but supposed to be more polished.

It didn't sell well overseas, but in Japan there was such demand that Rise of the Ronin sold out. The gameplay is orthodox, but historical figures from the end of the Edo period that every Japanese person knows appear one after another, and although it contains some fiction, it was exciting because it carefully depicts the historical facts that we all learned in Japanese history classes when we were students. By the way, who is Yasuke? Why can a sword bearer become a samurai? Wikipedia has also been tampered with.

Definitely an interesting looking game. Will wait to see actual gameplay. My big hope is that we will have actual assassin bureaus and have the brotherhood actually involved.

Male protagonists should hv been different,Yasuke wasn't a Samurai and could've made an important side character.

Desmond Technically died in AC 3, however his mind lives on in the network of the first civilization.
At that time, Yasuke could only be a black slave, and it was absolutely impossible for him to become a samurai. This is like the story of an African-American from the South becoming the first president of the United States in 1789. This kind of story is nothing but absurd.
A cinematic trailer for a game is useless its like having a podcast trailer for a film its pointless

There is japanese people in some parts of Japan that even today haven't seen a black person in their lives, and they get surprised or curious when they see one in person. Are you telling me back then they will just see a black guy as a samurai and like oh yeah just a normal samurai, no way lmao

Imagine if Ubisoft had made an AC game that's set in Africa, but chose to cast a white dude as the main character. Now how do you think us Asians feel about being forced to play as a black dude in medieval Japan of all places?

The thing is he is a real person who was technically a samurai in name only as a foot note in suppressed history, Yasuke was a bodyguard or so the story goes and that’s it,

"The samurai and shinobi came from a different social class" Thats not entirely true, many shinobi were in fact samurai who were willing to conduct more "dishonorable" actions, and would train in shinobijutsu

For the people complaining about a black guy being in a game set in pre-modern Japan, Yasuke is based off of a real person. He wasn't really a samurai however. Just a Dutch slave who impressed Oda Nobunaga enough to be made into one of his retainers.
