Hello! I’m very pleased that you stumbled upon the Welsh history of Philadelphia and it’s surrounding suburbs. I hail from Philadelphia. Just North and East of where you were viewing, there is also a “North Wales, Pennsylvania”. This is all part of the “Welsh Tract”, as the Welsh were some of the first settlers in this area, followed by the Swedish I believe. Cheers!

Wow, you visited Omaha! I'm so used to its gridded design and was completely blown away when I visited Germany and the street names made no sense and went all over the place. It's very organized here. All streets running north to south are labeled with numbers, and those going east to west get full names. The numbering starts in the east and the numbers increase as you get further west. The best part is that the names stay the same, too. A taxi driver in the pre GPS Era need only to memorize a small list of street names in order and then they will basically know the entirety of the city. If you told them that you're going to "1404 Cuming Street," you don't even need to know what Omaha looks like, nor do you need a map. You can just get there. The first two numbers represent the cross-street, even if there isn't one. So you know this address will be between where 15th Avenue and 13th Avenue are or would be if they don't intersect there. So now you basically have it narrowed down to one intersection. It was very hard to get used to not having this system. Sorry if that's a long read and you don't much care.

Hello again friend! From Omaha! The grain silos are no longer in use, and a lot of people make art on them now. Most popular is when someone wrote across the whole top “Dump Trump”

I grew up not far from Bryn Mawr and the story I always heard was that the area was settled by Welsh Quakers who were escaping religious persecution.

Pennsylvanian here! The Mainline (a series of wealthy Philadelphia suburbs) was settled by Welsh folks. We pronounce it Brin Marr. Fairly close to the Welsh pronunciation. We pronounce Bala Cynwyd as Bala Kinwood.

Bryn Mawr is pronounced the way you did. Bala Cynwyd is usually pronounced as “BAL-uh KEN-wid.” Eastern Pennsylvania was settled by Welsh immigrants, thus there are a lot of cities, neighborhoods, etc. that have Welsh names.

The reason there’s Welsh places in America is probably because Welsh people discovered that area (bit like New York being inspired by York or Boston being inspired by Boston in England)
