The part about party wipes is so true. Played WoW and was trying a tank class after reaching the then max lvl with DPS. Told the party i was new to tanking so i would likely be bad and their first reply was "maybe don't play tank then". On the flip side after getting past the nervousness WoW gave me about tanking I once again explain i am new to tanking but instead the FF community simply says "ok go at your pace, get a feel for what needs to be done and if we do wipe or someone dies don't stress it happens when you are learning".

There's a general sense of wanting to help each other learn in FFXIV and there's really no place for that in WoW, not even in the easy content. Sure if you're brand new to tank in a Savage party I'm sure people would get annoyed, but I can't think of anywhere else that they would be. It's helped a lot of friends get over their tank anxiety.

@@Jaws1375 You always gotta start somewhere, and tanking in FF14 isn't exactly rocket science. You hit everything once and it's pretty impossible to lose aggro. When people say they're new to something, there is no reason to be mad at them at all. They just wanna try a new thing. When people tell me they're new to healing, I pull two packs once, and see if that stresses them out too much, and if it does, I'll do one by one until they're comfortable enough to heal two. Sometimes people are just nervous. Or used to getting shouted at. What I really can't stand, are people that do not chat and still fuck everything up. That's quite annoying. But still not a reason to be mad. That usually only happens in earlier content, and you can do that pretty much without one of the roles, so again - no reason to be mad.

I remember near shadowlands launch, I had a group trying to do Plaguefall on Mythic, we got a tank after 10 mins of waiting, and as soon as a tank comes, the healer inspects the tank, leaves the group and whispers me "this dude is trolling, look at talents" Tank was legit using IcyVeins build and to this day I will never know if that healer was trolling.

Funny little story on my side: My career as an omniclasser actually began with my frustration at DPS queues as a Summoner in Stormblood. Had this "Brilliant" idea of 'Hang on, I can just level as a Scholar!' so I got myself some helaing gear from the vendor. Level 63, and the approperiate dungeon isn't exactly hard, so I felt safe. Figured out my buttons as well as I could outside of actual content and off I went. So I get into a group for the Violet Tides and the first thing to note was that I told the group it was my first time healing. Our tank and the samuria in the group were quite to note that "It's a bit weird to try it this late, but.. we'll give it a shot. Also, you forgot your fairy." kind of awkward. I ask them very nicely to be gentle with me. My words were noted, but unheeded. The tank went crazy and pulled from wall to wall and I was desperately scrambling to keep him alive in sheer panic. Through some sort of miracle-either through him being a god or me not being completely awful- we survived. The tank then said "Yeah, I'm having trouble imagining this is your first time healing, I'm not even dead :P" So we continue onward and somehow we keep surviving and eventually finish the dungeon, at which point the DPS said "This healer is actually kind of good, some rookie mistakes aside." and the tnak flat-out said "I've had dedicated healer mains who are bad and you're not bad at all." which was a massive confidence booster and propelled me to playing healer for-big shocker coming- FUN! So I started doing that, then I played Astrologian, then White Mage. Next, I tried playing tanks, a dream I've had since WoW Vanilla but was basically prohibited from even attempting because.. you know the WoW community. Regardless, I started from scratch this time, as a Paladin, on and up we go, slowly but surely and.. before I knew it, I had overcome my tankxiety and was geniunely enjoying myself. I now unironically have more fun playing healer and tank than I do DPS, a notion I would have laughed at just a few years ago. Course, the major downside to this-and the only one- is that I can now spot a lot of mistakes other people make. Heavens forfend if it's a tank not using their cooldowns on trash where they're most needed. Oh well. I can at least cry into my Amaro for comfort now. TL:DR In a little over a year the FFXIV community's patience and understanding had done what World of Warcraft's couldn't in over a decade: Helped me enjoy learning a new role in an MMORPG.

Raids is not a good gameplay mechanics. Really hope that's how each individual feels but imo even if it is; creating content that can't be cleared without relying on others is a dumb decision. I'm very happy to see this sort of video production about FF14. For the longest time we didn't have much of anything like this, or like Pint, or anything. We had some great productions, mind you, music and dance videos and the like, but when it comes to silly, blatant, almost shock humor at times, we had very little. It's a breath of fresh air and I'm glad people are enjoying both creating and consuming this kind of content with FF14 as its focus. Some of these creators are insanely good, too. They manage to present stuff in a way that's both understandable enough to be funny, but doesn't actually require more than a surface level understanding of the source. I've watched some of their WoW content in this same format, and despite not playing WoW, having no idea who's who, what order the expansions are, locations, plot points... Nothing at all, really, I can still enjoy their content for what it is. That's a really good indicator of talent, not just a good sense of humor. I hope we see many more!

If they're named and get a bit of screentime, there's usually more to them. In WoW, basically every Orc is always SMOrc'tar O'gar and sure Roegadyns get a lot of hired muscle, they're also the Tailoring and Cooking trainers, with the tailoring guy doubling as a dapper purveyor of xmogs. They just put more effort into the characters being products of their own story rather than a fantasy race stereotype all the time. And like i said, they do say they've had problems with elitist groups, and the whole server in fact being quite elitist, and thus they reazon some ended up quitting, because they couldn't keep up. And when it comes to wow, my own experience is actualy the oposite to what you just said. In my own experience, only 1 or 2 out of 10 random groups will have a bad experience, BUT i gotta say when is one of those, it can be QUITE toxic. Fun story, i was runing timewalking dungeons a few weeks ago, and the healer i got was a paladin in tank spec and he went on pulling everything, and then tried to kick me because i "wasn't helping" even tho i kept on asking him to switch to the right spec. But again, those are far in between and that is why they stand out to me so much. In fact, almost 90% of my runs end up with people thanking for a smooth run, some thanking for explaining the run or the mechanics, and often peple asking me if they can add me to their friend list. But that is my personal experience so i know is totaly subjective. You know... in hindsight... it may be that the predisposition plays an important factor... I have good results because i usualy go in with a positive attitude. Maybe if people go in expecting to have a toxic experience, they have a bigger chance to have friction with other players if something goes wrong?

Its goinna sound weird but like.. I love wiping on raids, especially when they're new. Because that means we're ALL new, and we're all learning how it works together, so when we finally finish and we get that nice clean win at the end, it's like "yes. Now we have LEARNED, thus we may train the newest grasshoppers on their mission'." Sure you could just ask someone what the mechanics are, but wheres the fun in that when you could learn how it works and get that good feeling of sweet satisfaction knowing that you did it yourselves?

Vah Shir Beastlord (BST was also introduced as a new class in the same expansion) was the race/class combo for almost a year. I can't speak to the specifics in WoW now, since I quit in Cata, but from my prior experience, WoW promotes hostility due to how much time it wastes whenever you wipe and how much time it expects you to keep current with content. FF14 makes wiping pretty much painless, you don't lose anything but time, all cooldowns are reset, there are no buffs you lose on death, and you can jump right back into the fight, or in under a minute due to shortcuts provided. Recovering from people dying is also possible, though DPS checks in harder content can still lead to a wipe, you have the chance to recover and if nothing else, progress further to learn the fight. Gearing is pretty much non-issue in FF14, and people care more about just successfully completing the content, along with getting mounts, minions, and glamours, than another 5 ilvls, as gearing is easy.
