I’m watching this after he started playing and fell in love with the game and I have to say it’s insane how against it he was. It doesn’t help that his chat literally just follows whatever he thinks instead of forming their own opinions on it. I’m glad he’s enjoying it though

This is what I did after beating Shadowbringers... and I felt some type of ways. Good ways. I haven't felt this excited for a game in so many years. The relevance of knowing who the characters are, what the story is, and speculating what is occurring makes it a million times better of a trailer.

@@midphaze9125 asmon was only so against ff14 because ff14 is a threat to WoW and asmon has a lot of his life invested in WoW. him and his mom played together, he's played for most of his teens and adult life. i can understand if he'd think that a threat to WoW is a threat to him personally. but i think at this point the WoW spell is broken and not only has he embraced ff14, he's also openly into cat girls and admits to liking some anime and even cares about fucking TATARU, a lalafell!!!! its crazy how much he's opened up his true self to the game and community.

But jesus, the FFXIV fanboys are probably the worst fanbase I have ever encountered. You can't really say anything negative about the game. Except for a few cool scenes, the trailer sucked. The cringy music, the cheesy dialogue, stereotypical characters it all sucked. This feels more like a bunch of small projects mashed together and then slapped with a "trailer" label.

@@chilliewhk both wow and ffxiv are both crazy without context. It just so happen I'm more familiar with wow since childhood. Yet I readily quit 2yrs ago since the graphics' proportionate doesn't fit with me anymore. I play flyff for fun these days too so I can actually accept old school designs/graphics. It just that the community were swarmed with weak players who think they're the boss and even trashes other new players ergo, I'm utterly disappointed with the community. Right now I'm still waiting for new games.

@@bryanstrongwind7020 to be fair, I played wow for 10 years and still wasn't a fan of the aesthetics, especially the shoulder pads. I know it draws from Warhammer, and I absolutely respect those roots, but it's not my personal preference. FF also looks weird to me sometimes. Elezen necks for example are something I'll never get over lol. But at least the gear, I highly prefer FF14's. I mean, comparing the paladin set from this trailer to any paladin set from wow, this one feels much more grounded (although one may argue it looks generic, in which case there are plenty of crazier looks in that game too, like the DRK and DRG sets)

@@ElShogoso yep agreed. I believe old games like wow and ffxiv need to up their game/game engine soon. I believe for ffxiv, after endwalker would be the right timing. You know for pc games, I got pretty much high standard, I may be toxic to some, yet I would like to try games with better environment interaction, alive and open world, etc. That's why I'm putting up with single rpg games for now, they meet the demand somehow.

@@bryanstrongwind7020 Problem is, I doubt they would wish to sacrifice their cross-platform accessibility or even the ability for people with lower-en PCs to play the game for that. They only focused on making the game look good with the original 1.x series and it flopped hard, because yeah, it was pretty to look at, but a nightmare to play. I get why people would want more higher end graphics, but for MMOs you need to realize how much shit gets thrown onto your screen and if they clock up the visuals too much, then people like me who can only afford mid-tier PCs will be stuck wondering why our Graphic Cards melted and why are computer is screaming and crying and begging for mercy while smoke and sparks fling all over the place. 'Accessibility' is something that game designers also need to focus on.

For those also asking like Asmon why the music was all over the place is because each scene represented an expansion which had it's own theme song.

All those those expansions are supremely related to the Endwalker expansion too. The lyrics seem to have been updated to reflect how the people and entities of those expansion feel about current events. Dragonspeak The Garlemald and the City States conflict Even a little bit of Shadowbringers lyrics have been changed slightly The only one that didn't change is ARR (that one doesn't seem to have lyrics.)

@@mariot8732 no it's literally the same audience. the people who watch asmon, they watch him for asmon. if they watched him for playing wow then they wouldn't be watching as he barely played anyway? most of the time he sat in ironforge and watched youtube videos. asmons chat are just a reflection of him and the game he plays, it's the same with like every other chats. i'm not saying asmon is responsible for his chat, but only people who agree with asmon, his character or a decent amount of his takes will watch his stream. i think what actually happened is asmon and his chat left the toxicity of wow and joined a community they don't know that well, and with it being a decent community (from what i've seen so far) it makes sense that their behaviour would change too.

Pretty much. There are things WoW does that I will always love like how big and open their maps feel, but I've consistently ended up quiting after a few months of gameplay and the Dev team is about as garbage as it gets. To them the game is a job, we are their money, and we don't know what we want. FFXIV on the other hand has a great community, great involved Devs who love the game, and Devs who genuinely want to make the players happy. Blizzard could only dream of having their own Yoshi P or having the same reputation with their own fans.

@@BroBomba Definitely. The community and game are not perfect. There are definitely people this game would not appeal to, such as those who do not enjoy story driven narratives. Those who cannot power level to endgame. But overall, there is a reason the game is doing so much better than WoW these days. That there are WoW refugees flooding in by the thousands, even after their last expansion. We got male Viera because the community has been asking for them passionately for two years, and Square Enix did what very few game companies do these days: they listened.

After i beat shadowbringer this sounds kinda OK, but that's because i know the context and I've seen the cool moments from the game. it might be just me but it's often 50/50 whether i will like vocal song from this game, but there is one that stuck in my memory which is dragonsong.

Man, considering I haven't watched Asmongold til he actually picked up XIV and have only watched those videos, going back and watching this is seriously giving me whiplash

Coming back to this reaction is so weird. Asmon was so reluctant to like this, and now he's balls deep in the game and loving it. What a timeline.

I respect Asmon for being open and just admitting that the visuals don't appeal to him and that different people prefer different things, rather than trying to talk it down or make FFXIV seem like a bad game or something. His chat on the other hand...

twitch chats for streamers like this tend to fill up with gamer boi teenagers who're still in the "it's cool to be cynical and hate everything" mindset that comes with the internet, it's really popular to hate anime in those groups these days too and anything that isn't an incredibly narrow idea of masculine cool is "cringe"

The problem with his chat is that they literally never form their own opinions and think in a hivemind, I enjoy Asmongold cause he does sometimes have interesting thoughts, and can be intelligent when he wants to be. I wouldn't have high expectations of his fanbase, while they play/enjoy WoW to this extent, to do so much mental gymnastics to shit on a game they never will even attempt to try.

The game just isn't for everyone and that's fine. I'm a FF14 player but even I get pissed off by the constant spam of people asking Asmongold to play it. I think it's stupid to dismiss the game so easily by calling it "weeb trash" but it's also stupid to constantly bring it up in every conversation like it's the holy grail of videogames.

Maybe he is arguing about artstyle? I personally prefer a more cartoonish looking game. Diablo 3 has better and more realistic graphic but I prefer torchlight 2 aesthetic over it.

My my how things change :) And the reason you hate half and love half is that's Final Fantasy. It's a blending of Western and Eastern themes and cultures, always has been. Having a versed knowledge of both is required to work on FF games. And the music is fucking fantastic, Soken is the man.

I love him saying “half of the aesthetics of this game are ass” as he plays WOW which is still in 2005 graphics

He says the music sucks, but what makes it pretty darn good (I.M.O) is the context of it within the story. All the motifs used as callbacks, the lyrics, etc. All were made with context to the story. It was made for fans by a fan. Soken did a great job.

Yeah honestly I understand where he's coming from where some of the music does have that sort of "trying too hard to be cool" sound to it that's common in anime openings. However, knowing the context and having played through the game to recognize all the different melodies from all the expansions basically washes this away from me and I'm sure others. It's like the difference between seeing a stranger you don't know and a good friend doing something kind of embarrassing. You're more likely to look past the embarrassing action because you have such a good relationship with your friend. That's pretty much how I feel lol.

As someone who just recently got into ffxiv (june last year) i did think the music in the trailer sucks for the vocal part specifically, now that i beat Endwalker the music sounds okay mainly because i know the context. It just sounds like edgy teenager music in the early 2000's, but luckily in-game music slaps

The smoothbrain mentality of "weeb=bad" is so moronic. Yes, it's a Japanese developed game, so obviously you're going to see some anime style cliches. Does that make it a bad game? Absolutely not. Imagine if Japanese players watched a WoW trailer and just thought "Western=trash", people wouldn't stand for it. The key difference I see between WoW and FFXIV is that the devs behind XIV seem to actually care about their game a lot, regardless of how corny some aspects of it are. Blizzard, on the other hand, don't seem to give a rat's ass about their game, yet their fanbase will blindly defend it and trashtalk other competitors. Honestly, moronic mindset.

@@Holimajster Basically asmon also bashes wow (and the dev team) alot. That is the main reason he plays tbc or classic the most of the time. But in the end he is talking about "the game looks to casual for him" but still playing classic and tbc what is absolutely zero challaging in todays perspective. Basically he stays at wow just because his userbase is wow... he would not reach the amount of viewers with ff14 tbh = lesser income. I had fun with shadowlands but it's dead again because the dev team just ruined it... time gating the content, 8 months since last patch, stupid systems that no one wants... why cant they just stop this bullshit and bring what people want: Story, Dungeons, Raids and a bit of farming (reputation, token etc.).... they could spend so much more time on delivering content inf they would not revamp all the old stuff everytime and make use of it... just make a harder version of legion raids with the next addon or something... just revive old stuff to give us new things to progress... man they make their lifes so hard by trying to invent the wheel over and over again... and by this they just loose all the player base because it take years to implement systems you are annoyed of by 1-2 weeks... im switching from ff14/wow back and forth... wow is the stuff you do for 1-2 months after a patch or content update and then its dead again (besides raiding)... and ff14? it's a rpg and game you want to dive in and stay... having one character, a great community and just fun by enjoying all the small things... not all over raiding endgame content... but also having fun acutally playing the game...

Seeing the devs meta comments and Sokens Lahee show how in touch with the fans they are, such a contrast to how blizzard knows nothing about their fans

It's like the Devs are fans of the game too, where as Blizz see it as a 9 to 5 grind. The sheer amount of content made by devs on FF14 that they do because they just want to is insane, like they added flying to the base game zones out of their own time yet we still can't fly in Draeni/Blood elf starting zones. The male viera was out of their own time too, like imagine WoW just adding a whole race just because Devs put in extra hours and wanted to give the fans something.

@@frostdracohardstyle No it didn't. The FFXIV boost was introduced in Stormblood, the boost was introduced in Mists of Pandaria which was in 2014. Stormblood came out in 2017.

I just beat Shadowbringers today and since I waited to watch every trailer until I was done with the corresponding expansion's MSQ, I watched Endwalker trailer right after closing the game and I can tell you it was freaking epic! The music makes so much sense once you play the game, it makes the trailer feel nostalgic and marvelous at the same time (though I get his point too, not being immersed into the game at the point he made this). I wonder if Asmon will watch the trailer again once he beats it up to Endwalker, and how his comments will differ from these. In my opinion, Shadowbringers is a masterpiece in every sense and I'm certainly looking forward to Endwalker like nothing else. 2 months to go!

I love all the shit talking in the chat. Two months later half these people probably play FFXIV more than WoW.

Yeah seriously, I don't get how he can take issue with elezen. They're standard classical fantasy elves. WoW is the outlier where every race has to be cartoonishly roided and grotesque, that turned elves into multicolored troll-spawn with two-foot eyebrows.

Unfortunately WoW seems to attract fans that seem to harbor a deep hatred towards anything Japanese for some reason. To them, if you play a Japanese game once, you're a weeb and they automatically think less of you. It's sad, really.

Yeah but you have to realize that Asmon is of an entirely different crowd, he has grown up a certain way, this is the case with half of WoW's current playerbase that is left, they don't like anything they see as "weeb" You really think people that listen to shit like Slipknot, Metallica, ACDC and all that mumbo jumbo is gonna like FF14? I hiiiiiiiiiighly doubt it. I think it's fine that Asmon reacts the way he does, he's a normal human being like the rest of us. How many times have you not told your friends that "X game is garbage" because it just doesn't interest you? I played WoW for 15 years and realized the community and the developers are just really bad at what they do. That is why I went over to FF14 where devs care about their players. Now the one thing that he said that should be shat on is his view on the music though, the music in FF14 has always been better than both Warcraft and WoW's music, because Warcraft and WoW music is glorified background music, just like lofi. I say that as a music producer myself. FF14 has one of the greatest composers in the industry who also made bangers while in the hospital fighting cancer. Soken is a fucking prodigy

Music from both games are incredible and better than each other in different things Also, i enjoy "shits" like meta, slipknot etc., and in the same time i enjoy FF14 a lot. Music is a music. It doesnt mean anything in terms of what is better or worse. It's all just subjective opinions.

@@TierHarribel I like all that music and ff14. I find there is a huge issue with people saying "the music sucks," as opposed to "I don't like the music." A very common issue people have is using their words correctly. Just because a person doesn't like something doesn't mean it sucks. I personally don't like country music for the most part but I can't really say it sucks.

Wait till Asmon realises there's a whole expansion dedicated to dragons and its the first one, and *_free._*

Yeah, I definitely agree. But as a whole I really don't think FFXIV would be his cup of tea. I'm a fervent 14 player, and despite loving the game to bits, asmongold really would not be able to get into it. It's just like he said himself; "different strokes for different folks".

@@Rizzan8 I think more people would watch him just because it's a new game (For him). All he does is play WoW and react to youtube videos. When he does play new games, his stream normally has many viewers.

On one hand I really would love for Asmon to love FF14 and have fun playing it. But on the other hand, I don’t want the demented spergs that comprise about half of his chat anywhere near my game.

Viera men in lore: 'Conan/Rambo hybrid' Viera men as done by ERPer cringelords: UwU! I main dragoon so I can pole dance and jump on my Roe-daddies d!ck! Tee-hee! Same shit happened with Death Knights, Demon Hunters, Draenei, Nightborne, Zandalari. Anytime something new came out in WoW, if it was cool, a community of morons comes in who knows next to nothing about the class or race and plays the cringiest shit I have ever seen. But hey, if they are Rava I can just say: Yeah, that's probably why you were banished: Because you are a fucking disgrace to the Viera and they didn't wanna have anything to do with you.

​@@imaran1303 It'll get worse when Female Hrothgar gets made. I assure you. I do follow lore. So I make my character story to match or acknowledge it. Which is why I only made a Hrothgar later on; I learned more about Bozja and their story/civilization/ect. Sure, when the females get introduced, it'll axe the scarce few part of their existence, but considering what happens in Bozja once you do the whole questline, there is some wiggle room to work it out.
