Yeah I was blessed with a foul ball in my first Jball game from a Swallows hitter. Best souvenir a baseball fan could get. Ive seen 10 games in Japan and always loved it. Fans always share food with me and the balloons and chants keep if very US collage football like as a comparison. I was hoping he would stay in Japan but clearly he cant make as much money playing.

In Sacramento it seems really popular. A lot of the kids at my son's elementary school play it and go to the camps and all that. Some of my kid's friends do private lessons. Seems to be the most popular youth sport in this particular neighborhood, then there is a big gap then soccer and basketball. This is the biggest change in my view. There is no “casual little league” anymore. A kid has to devote his life to it, playing travel, taking lessons, etc - or there’s no place for him. Little league is full of “gamers” who play on travel teams and are playing year round. So - while there is a passionate base of players, less people are going to play overall.

With social media and technology and the endless amounts of online entertainment, it’s so much better to watch a tv show on Netflix or scroll through endless amounts of KZread shorts or tik toks Our attention spans are low, especially for the younger generation. Great observation thats literally whats killing the game in the 1980s in Ireland lots of kids would play ''rounders'', big organised baseball games and you would litterally watch the other players both good and bad waiting to pitch field or take your turn at bat....now kids as young as 8 or 9 all have smart phones, they're gaming, overeating or at least eating all the wrong stuff. We have not improved and l've traveled widely Europe, Africa, America its similar in most countries and places.

I never played baseball, live in Europe, grew up playing basketball. Still vividly remember my first encounter with baseball: the home run derby in Boston in 1999 or 2000. Have been watching MLB baseball for about 20 years now, and am a fervent follower since about 10 years. Why? I just got to know the game and fell in love with it. There is so much more going on than you'd think at first sight. And still now I learn new things all the time. Also, being at a ballpark is the best way to spend a summer afternoon! I make frequent trips to the US, just to watch baseball games.

The pickleball angle hits home because my kids all played baseball at the local ball park, which has 4 little-league fields. Later games would have to be called when the sun went down. For years the league tried to get the city to put up lights, but it was too expensive. Then they installed pickleball courts on the other side of the park... with lights. So now the baseball teams have to pack up at dusk, but the 70yos can keep on plinking until the park closes at 10pm, and then they come back at 6am.

Trevor, the biggest barrier to entry for playing baseball is the number of people you need to play a game. In pretty much every game, you only need at least two people to be able to play. Those games are basketball, soccer, golf, any net game (tennis, badminton, volleyball, pickleball, etc.), frisbee golf, normal frisbee, martial arts, wrestling, etc. And all of those games get better with only four players. Baseball, on the other hand, requires way more players. Even just to play casually, you need a pitcher, three basemen, and maybe some outfielders. And that's just for one team. You'd need maybe 12 players total for a light casual game. That's way harder to organize than a game that only requires a few people. That on top of all the gear you need is part of the reason why people don't love baseball as much anymore.

Stumbled on this video by accident in my news feed. I love this. Makes you smile so big when you can bring some happiness with just a simple game of catch. I’m Heading back to phoenix in March to finish up TJ rehab. Would love to see another video like this but done at a couple sports bars in the area like zips. Or go even further and see how the younger generation elementary / middle schoolers perceive the game.

Mr. Bauer I must say as a Giants fan I wasn't too fond of you (can you blame me?) but after learning about everything....I wish you the best and hope you find yourself back in MLB. And I think this is the BEST video! We need to bring back catch!! I'm outside nearly every day with my two young boys playing catch and I always keep a few gloves and balls in my truck "just in case". This should be a nationwide campaign, everyone should do this! Bring back catch!!

Grow up in East LA me and a few friends would get together and play baseball. Those were the happiest times of my life, however most of us chose to get into disruptive groups. I am 55 years old and I make better choices now and when I’m feeling stressed out, I go find a batting cage and it takes me back when things were innocent for me.

I can’t stand when people still trash Trevor. The dude is so misunderstood. He’s a genuinely nice person, and is just different mentally that most people don’t understand. He really does want to help people, and his favorite sport, and videos like this get labeled as publicity stunts to make images better. I don’t believe that for a second. I genuinely believe he’s doing this because he wants to do good for others and his passion. He really gets the raw end of the deals. I hope he gets signed soon.

I think it is kind of a publicity stunt but that he also wanted to genuinely do it if that makes sense. I think he genuinely loves the sport and wants it to grow and wants others to love it like he does and he used this as an opportunity to show that side of himself to MLB in the hopes of getting a second chance.

Great video. There are 2 things that hinder baseball in America. 1. the price of tickets is way too high for the average fan to experience it. 2. Most American's are wanting to be entertained without have to work with their minds to achieve the total experience. Once BB fans understand the game behind the surface experience it goes to another level.

I love this, Trevor you're a great guy. I was kind of hoping you would play catch with people that can play, but don't recognize you. You speed up the throws, toss in a first curve ball and see how that goes, go back to throwing, toss a change-up once the person is used to getting the ball at the same speed. You get the idea. Then when they say, "who are you?" the big reveal occurs. That I would watch.
