It is, however, I had a few experiences where I gave a homeless person the change I had left (a couple dollars or so) and they looked at me like I was a cheap ba*tard and giving me attitude. To be honest, I would buy a stranger a meal if they asked, but I would not give them cash. Cash can be used for drugs or other addictions. Even buying a meal I'd have to talk to them first about what their situation is like and whether they are on drugs. My cousin was a drug addict and my grandma gave him a home and pocket change when he got out of jail and needed help. He saved up all the pocket change and got more drugs, while also stealing small bills where he thought he could get away with it from her. My cousin told me all this himself. She was enabling him. She kicked him out after he got caught again. He turned his life around for awhile, managed to become a plumber after working on it for awhile, got his own house. He recently relapsed and got caught again, had to go out to a rehab clinic in California. He told me he's better than he was, but he backslid. He wants to recover though and I believe that he'll keep making progress. However, I can't help him by giving him cash, he has to help himself. I'll be there to talk and be his family, and possibly a meal or a couch to sleep on for a night, but I won't be there to give him cash for drugs or house to stay in long-term. I know he hasthe ability to support himself, so if he chooses not to do so, then he won't be helped by me enabling him to live that way.

To me i've witnessed hardship that can spiral down to the abyss... Theres a light in that abyss so long as your heart beats. You have that light in your heart for so many people. Wealthy people are already paying a higher percentage of their earnings toward governmental programs. They already give more. Unless you’re savvy enough to navigate through the loop holes, you’re gonna pay more as a percent of your income than those who earn less. Also, this video isn’t a large enough sample size to warrant its use as “evidence” for how people in different socioeconomic group behave.

Although I agree that society can be cold and selfish, when you are asked literally by 20 people each day, most of them drug addicts, your system finds it difficult to handle. Also, because you are working your ass of, and at least in Barcelona, these people begging for money are earning more than you working with a regular job. However, I've encountered many people who are just trying to get by another day. I can tell they are not addicts or something. It's not for me to judge why they are in that circumstance. there are good people in this world and most of them are poor. A homeless guy gave me a $1 one time when I was 16 years old with no bus money to go home.

It's like seeing someone move a dog out of the road and then you yelling at them for not volunteering at shelters lol anyway, if you're talking to Jennifer, I'd bet she'd gladly help others, but is also obviously smart enough that she wouldn't want the people she's helping to also get hurt/robbed, which is the far better way to go about it. A friend of mine actually did a social experiment like this, except on a much smaller scale(200x the money paid), and there was one case in the experiment that was particularly memorable to him. That person, or rather people, were 2 sisters, one around 20, and the other around 16. When my friend asked them for money, the older sister kept refusing and insisted that they couldn't afford to give any. When my friend pressed on, the older sister lost her temper and yelled at my friend. She then explained that her father was hospitalized, the older sister herself was in college, and her three younger siblings(including the younger sister present at scene) were all still in school. Her mother was doing three jobs to make ends meet, and the girl herself had to find a part-time job, but even then they were still struggling a bit. At this point, my friend, who felt a bit ashamed, apologized, and was prepared to leave, when in a shocking turn of events, the younger sister decided to offer 2 pounds and 57 pence, against her older sister's protests. Then, my friend explained what was going on, about the social experiment and video(the video wasn't put on youtube)and gave them £514, and the younger sister was moved to tears, while the older sister immediately apologized for misjudging my friend, and thanked him as the money would be enough to cover her college tuition fees for the month. When he told me about this, I said I'd agree with him that it would be one of the most memorable parts of his social experiment.

I think given her family situation and everyone working and school and what not it makes more sense how she came off. She truly meant it when she said she didn’t have extra money to give away. The younger sister was kind and it paid off, but this won’t always be the case.

I saw a worst video where someone ask for a dollar and he tells people he is hungry and no one cared. People in the U.S. are so stingy. My God it is $1. I'm so glad that I am a Muslim. It teaches you to either put 2.5% of your whole salary for the poor or 2.5% after you put aside for the money that you need for the months. If everyone and every country did this, no one and no country would be poor. Islam also teaches you to know that it is hard for someone to ask you to barrow money than it is to hear someone asking us for money. It kills the pride. Your struggles will also be eased when you help on this situation. This is why Muslims are the No. 1 people who do the most charities in the world. Look it up. There is even a Saudi who is around 80 who gave away $16 billion for the poor. How many western and people from the U.S. thinks that someone asking them money is an inconvenience? Many do. Americans complain about mere taxes going to immigrants. Where as in Indonesia the country with the most Muslims in the world lets foreigners live practically like Kings and Queens and not one in my 32 years of living here have I heard an Indonesian complain about the facilities that foreigners here who work get in comparison to native Indonesians. Foreigners here at the very least have a salary that doubles than Indonesians in the same position. Also if a large company hires them the company pays everyhing for the person's family, including International schools for each child that has a tuition of 25K a year. Foreigners like these only pay for their food and fun. All the utility bills, housing full insurance, car, driver are paid by the companies. I also remember a story of a famous kidnapped child victim. The community gave her a house. She lets her father live there because she has a family of her own. The community got mad because of that! If you give a present like that, let them do what ever they want. That is her father. She is taking care of her father. Putting a roof over his head and being a great daughter. Paying forward to a parent. Sje wouldn't be in this world if it wasn't for her dad. In Islam you prioritas your oarents first and take care of the amd do good to them is like the person goes to Haj 7x. People who agree to the argument of the father shouldn't be in that house are disgusting. Stingy. No Muslims would ever protest that.

@@commonsense3921 actually I don’t say no, I always give to homeless people here. But if I don’t have any money in cash I don’t react the way these idiots did. I normally say sorry I don’t and keep walking. But if I do have money of course I’ll give them some. Because I believe that $1 or $5 in my pocket that I would spend on chewing gum or parking metres would feed that person and keep them alive. That’s more important to me than petty things.

@@fancypuss This, and the fact that people who never give anything away are greedy and greedy people are more desperate to make money, sometimes even sacrificing relationships and such just to have more. They dont need it, they just want it to have it. It gives them a sense of worth. Non greedy people find less value in materials and more in experiences.

Man , the act of the homeless man put me in tears. I've been in the same situation. Did the same. Had to take the bus and after realizing I just gave my last change to another homeless guy. The bus driver not even knowing I couldn't pay just looked ad me and gave me I sign to just keep walking and take a seat. God is great when you do good. I never refuse to give someone some change because tomorrow could be me.

Hey if it's for drugs that's totally cool man. It's up to NO ONE to judge them for that. It's what THEY needed at the time. For all we know he got that bag and was well enough to walk into rehab. I say give em all the dope they need.

This is awesome. A few years ago when I was a kid, there is this guy who came out of prison and asked for food at my parents' home. He said he was hungry and as a kid I had no money to offer. So I gave him some food and had a conversation with him. Towards the end of last year, I travelled to my home village far away. I was watching my mom's car as she was doing some shopping. The same guy came to my window and thanked me again and mentioned he was doing some construction work. I was so happy. Now, I am trying to get a job so I can give back to more people I can.
