Asking my husband vulnerable questions

In this episode we sat down and asked each other some vulnerable questions about pregnancy. We love doing this podcast because it creates a space for Andrew and I to have open conversations and learn more about each other while also getting to share them with all of you. We’re so glad you’re on this pregnancy journey with us. Let us know what other questions you would want us to answer :)
Love you guys!
Shawn and Andrew

hey hey! a nurse here!! yes you do have an adhesive allergy - definitely talk to your doctors about it and see if they can find another dressing and / or take some antihistamines as well 🤍 this baby is so lucky to have you as their parents, as well as Drew and Jett x

It's really cool to see the Couple Things podcast this month, then watch one from 2-3 years ago, then watch the one today. You can see that there's so much growth there, even in just the last 2-3 years. They've matured and grown closer now even than they were back when this podcast started.

Hi, pharmacist from Switzerland here. Because of your rash it is most likely from the glue that is on the bandade. It is quite common. Usually bandades that have a silicone based "glue" are helping and even the most sensitive people do not react on these. I'm pretty sure you guys have those in the US. You can look up on bandade for hyperallergic skin. I hope this helps. I wish you all the best!

I just want to second this comment. When my son was 4 and being treated for childhood cancer had this same allergic reaction to the Tegaderm bandage. The rash was terribly uncomfortable for him. When we changed to an adhesive that he tolerated better things completely cleared up.

I don't mean to disagree with professionals, but the fact that she said it lasts mo the is a huge red flag for postpartum puppp, allergic reactions tend to fade once the irritant is removed. Mine lasted until my son was 9 weeks old. And I didn't have adhesives at all.

@@bryden515 I think it’s super important to “disagree” with with something that you might have conflicting or additional information on. Seriously, we are all just bystanders here watching videos. We’re not getting all the details or even a look at the rash. All information can be helpful!

This episode was so good. I am currently 22 weeks pregnant with our first baby after 6 losses and 6 years of TTC. I can’t tell you how much Shawn put all these feelings into words today. And even when she couldn’t communicate exactly what she is feeling in that I felt so so seen and understood and related too. I love you guys, you are awesome parents. You have given so many of us a place to come and feel related too. Thank you for sharing your experiences, all the good and even the bad, even when that is uncomfortable. While we just like you are so excited for this true miracle and blessing there are a lot of fears that will always remain in our minds. Ahhh just thank you! Congratulations on your sweet new blessing ❤

I’m so sorry for the loss that is coming. My mom died 6 days ago. Her death was very peaceful. She also woke early that morning and said hello and then she closed her eyes and didn’t speak the remainder of the time until she passed. She was 89 years old and is now with the Lord.

"Live" not exactly. You see the beginning where they replay a portion of this very show, where she is crying and he consoles her, clearly this indicates they are Not really live. This is called, as my dear father would say , " inducción al engaño" let me send you the exact meaning in english. Anyway they still offer some nice messages and I like listening, but they are dishonest and have shown this many a times, to the point where he even once acknowledged this. I recall this very clearly. For instance, for longent time they lied about their comments not being able to be visible bc of an issue with their youtube channel. This is False. With love and respect.

I had the exact same rash after my c-section and my gall bladder surgery. No one could really tell me, but I know they wipe you down before hand and then put that adhesive cover on you to keep everything contained during the surgery. I think it's the adhesive on that cover they use. Regardless, it is miserable and doesn't happen immediately. It took me nearly 10 days to get it, and it lasted for 6 weeks. Good luck this time around!!

The same thing happened to me after several surgeries! I had a doctor tell me the topical adhesive they use to apply steri-strips over the incision is called benzoin and people can have strong reactions to it. In relation to that, I also had a latex allergy diagnosed. Since finding this out and disclosing to future doctors, I haven't had a repeat issue!

Hey!! I'm a nurse and have had the adhesive reaction. Mine happened after my mastectomy and I had big wounds. I had a plastic surgeon give me the best advice. Get the nurses/doctor to apply lubricating jelly to your skin before applying adhesive. It puts a barrier between your skin and the adhesion. When the adhesive is removed the lubricate comes off with it. Girl, it saved my skin - literally!!!!

I started to notice from then on, I get skin reactions to the adhesives in bandaids and physical therapy tape, too! I told the nurse when I had my third and she used a different tape for sensitive skin and I was fine! Be sure to tell them!!!

I totally get how you feel about it being hard to fathom there being another baby. My husband & I are currently pregnant with baby boy #3 after having 3 miscarriages in a row. My first baby I was under high risk management & was a c section, our second the pregnancy was great but delivery was an emergency c section that was traumatic at the height of the pandemic & now this one I'm in a high risk category just because of my age. At 12.5 weeks with this little one we had a scare were I woke up in the middle of the night with severe bleeding & fearing the worst after having just announced we were pregnant. This was a surprise baby for us & I didn't realize just how much I already loved this little one till the thought of him being gone was completely gut renching. Thankfully he was & is doing well & growing but everyday, I feel like I have to fight away some fear of the worst. As mothers & the ones who carry these precious lives within us I think we have a tendency to worry & fear more because we are so acutely aware of there being a little miracle within us. Praying for y'all & your little family. Shawn know you are not alone with those thoughts others feel the same too & you got this! Andrew continue with your wonderful love & support for your wife.

It does get easier after the first 2. Grocery shopping in stores were the hardest (I had 4 babies in 3 1/2 years) no joke .... vividly remember having a 2 year old in the basket sitting with toys, a 1 year old in the cart seat and a two month old in a front carrier.... the two in the cart needed naps and upset the baby wanted to nurse and I wanted to sit down on the floor at the grocery store and cry too. That was the hardest moment with multiples so I learned to have groceries delivered lol! It does get easier after you have 2 and anyone who has more than 3 kids will tell you that after that amount there is no difference on taking care of them.

I would like to say that I think that pregnancy might (or maybe not) be harder for us short gals. I am way past child bearing age, but we just don’t have the same amount of room in our bodies for large babies! I always have thought tall women look so much better….there’s that vanity creeping in! I was only 18 when I had my first baby and was probably a little immature, but I was embarrassed to get so large! My second pregnancy was 5 years after the first and the whole labor was so intense and painful. After about 14 hours of sticking it out the nurses finally suggested an epidural, which I had never heard of, but it was a God send! I loved every minute of being a mom, but pregnancy could have been better. Loved hearing you both talk about your thoughts and experiences.

It's a latex allergy! I had the same. Also, with sciatica i did better when i carried nothing over 5 lb. I put groceries in the stroller and made my toddlers climb into the high chair etc.

"As we are giving birth" honest to goodness, sure the man is hugely immensley important in the birth-giving process, no question about it. But frankly, saying these types of statements sure causes confusion, ESPECIALLY in today's society where there's confusion about who is a woman versus a man. "We are pregnant" No sir with utmost kindness and respect, Your Wife Is Pregnant. You and her Both help Create, are co'creators of this baby. She is pregnant, she gives birth. Love and blessings🤗🦆🧉🌟🧉🍼😴

I have an allergy to adhesive, not latex! It didn't develop until my 2nd child! Talk to your doctors and remember it for future appointments. Even band-aids are not good for me if I have them on for an extended period of time.

Love you guys - can I suggest you guys look into and interview Angie and CR Braniff from this gathered nest about adoption and faith etc - wonderfully Christian yet real couple that I think would be an amazing interview especially in this season ❤

You both are so genuine and a light in this dark world! Shawn your vulnerability about how fragile pregnancy is was beautiful. Faith is key for those fearful thoughts! The East fam has always encouraged me to look forward to parenting in marriage and growing as an individual/with my husband so thank you both for using your platforms in a positive way ❤️

Is the bandage over the csec incision a Prevena? Purple foam with a pump. Highly recommend

Surgical nurse here - say you’re allergic to adhesive. ask for dermabond. Which is still an adhesive but it’s a skin glue and a lot of patients do better with that. Maybe they have another option. Just claim your allergy upon admission! and they can’t put that on you again.

Would love to see a podcast on how Shawn incorporates Eastern medicine and how that might complement Western medicine and get Andrews thoughts.

Hello my dears 🙂.. I just heard the part where you talked about Sean's reaction postpartum near the scar.. here's a tip.. because I had a brutal reaction after my first operation (broken collarbone)..and the doctor present discovered that I'm allergic to anti-allergy bandages...and I always have to use the most normal bandages..the brown and almost non sticking ones! I hope this baby comes full of health and energy to play with his brother and sister..and that everything goes for the best..I love hearing you guys..kisses from Portugal..Vânia

Check out essential oils for the rash. Try peppermint oil , Tea tree, or patchouli.

I can only use paper tape for the exact same reason. I get the same way with any of the tapes they use when put any tape or bandaid on.

I also have a latex allergy, but even with non-latex bandages I’ve had that allergic reaction. I’ve only had success with paper tape and gauze.
