I'm so glad you did this review! I've been using the Saucony Endorphin line for two years for speed-day and racer shoes, and have really liked them. For trainers, I switched to Asics this past year from Hoka and am really impressed (Novablast 3). I just ordered the Magic Speed 3 instead of a new pair of Saucony's (based on your review) and did a short run in them this morning. I'm in love! I think anyone coming from the Endorphin line would really like these shoes, and maybe even prefer them. I'm looking forward to run days in them!

I have both the Magic Speed 3 and the Endorphin Speed 3, both excellent light rides. I agree the Magic Speed 1 & 2 weren't good while the Endorphin Speed 2 was a really nice ride as well. I only run with ultra cushioned very light sneakers and these both are. I have around ( and expenading) sneaker rotation of 8. Can't go wrong with either of these and they run great sales. Nothing like a fresh pair out of the box, it's addictive. 😃

I was surprised by the verdict here. I would be curious to see a B2S putting either of these up against the Puma Deviate Nitro 2. Seems like it’d be a good fight with the Endorphin Speed 3…

Hard to beat that Saucony foam.

For me, the Saucony Endorphin Speed 2 is faster than the 3 because I can feel the pop in it. The Metaspeed Edge + is fast and aggressive but I don't use it for longer training runs. Just for race day. So im gonna get the magic speed 3 and see how it will blend in my rotation

I'm really glad you did this review I just have another dilemma between the Magic Speed 3 & the Takumi Sen 9 I want to break my record in 3x500 meters and I'd like to know which one of them would be more adequate ? For the record, I probably have the most vanilla (normal) feet ever : Neutral arch, even stride, midfoot strike

Endorphin Speed 3 and it's not even close. The shoe can do it all.

Magic speed 3 not available in Australia yet. Speed 3 discounted by up to 30% in end of financial year sale. Picked up the speed 3 in the sales yesterday. Couldn’t pass up that bargain! $182 (endorphin speed sale) vs $250 (magic speed release price assuming same as earlier versions) makes for an easy decision.

Dang I just bought the Magic Speed 2's and I really like them a lot and I'm a real fan of the Endorphin line. I got the Endorphin Speed 2's and the Pro 3's. I've considered getting the Endorphin Speed 3's but have heard some say they don't like them and prefer the Endorphin Speed 2's. I also have the Metaspeed Edge+ so I'm wondering if adding the Magic speed 3's would compliment them in the rotation. I'm a fan of the Metaspeeds as well but have yet to race in them because I had surgery a few months back. I raced my Marathon in the Pro 3's and fell in love.

It would be great to compare between magic speed 3 and adidas Boston 12

I'm with Thomas and I just don't feel it with the speed - I have not yet tried the endorphin Pro v3 but v1 and v2 weren't for me. I like what Asics is doing lately so it may be worth trying that Magic Speed

Guys, how would the Puma Deviate Elite (version 1) stack up against the Magic Speed 3? Which one would you pick excluding recency bias?

I have both. Honestly the Speed 3 tries to be too many things, 2 I think was perfect and BETTER than the magic speed 3 if I had to choose. Speed 3 can be used for any run, even if it feels a little weird at slower paces, a little too bouncy for me (speed 3) snappy sure, but I don’t think it wins this category. For a shoe specifically made for Speed work, sprints, tempo, I choose the Magic Speed 3 since it feels more refined and dialed in for that kind of work.

My main issue with Saucony Speed 2 was the lack of stability. I wished they only updated speed 2 by being more stable and made speed 3 as a different version of the same shoe (like asics metaspeed sky + vs edge +) because they are so different, not speed 3 replacing speed 2.

I so liked the Endorphin Speed 2 that I bought four more pair when the price dropped on introduction of the Speed 3, which I did not like as well. I never had any issues about stability in 2’s. I paid an average of $73.00 per pair and two have yet to be used. I’m old and slow but switching to Speed 2’s from Hoka Mach 4 and 5 cut a minute per mile off my half Mary pace and absolutely NO shoe related problems, period.

@@tomeagen1483 truly an outstanding shoe, hope they bring back that design style one day, it single handedly brought me into taking running shoes more seriously.

Had ASICS speed 2 caused pain in legs on cool down at the track, don’t know if I would try the 3 Endorphin speed 3 is safe, no pain.

Magic 3, hands down is best so far. Speed 3 was to squirrelly. Was good till Magic 3, haven’t had a desire to put on since.

I don't think the speed roll of the Saucony Speed 3 was mentioned? Does the Asics Magic Speed have a similar 'roll' built in?

How is the New Balance Propel V4 compared to these two shoes?

Which one is more stable and which one has a firmer midsole?

Should wait a few days and compare magic 3 with hoka mach x. The release dates between magic 3 and speed 3 is almost 1 year, so it's hard to compare. I have had speed 1,2 and 3 and love them all. Had magic 1 and really like it, but not as my speeds.

I would really like to see a new balance fuelcell supercomp elite v3 between 2 shoes with a similar sneaker

I'm a highschool 5k runner and I use the speed three as my daily trainer but I only run up to 10 miles and it feels great but the traction is a little lacking.

I just returned my Endo Speed 3s because they absolutely wrecked my achilles. I’m sad because I loved how they felt on the run. Traded them for the Novablast 3 and I’m in heaven.

I don’t have the ES3. I have the novablast 3 and they are very good. The foam is fantastic and they support fast paces, as long as we have legs for it.

I don't need a tempo shoe at the moment (a bit like supermarket shopping when you have just eaten) means I can be objective watching this, I have not tried the MS3, but just on the fact that the Saucony speed 2 IMO fit the brief better then follow up (ended giving up the 3 to one of my lads and used my old 2 until it died) , I would put the Asics in the mix for my next purchase my only issue is Andy (FOD runner) and my coach are waxing lyrical about the hyperion max (still) , non plated .. does the same thing .. durable and at the same price point . 🤔

Saucony is definitely one of the top brands competing with Nike. Pro 3 turned me into a Sub 3 dude, and I can't believe it.

I would have picked ASICS MAGIC SPEED 3 as well, but I'm not taking anything away from Saucony Endophin Speed 3 that's also a great shoe in its own right

What watch is Meg using?

I don't love the Novablast 3 (too squishy, causes me instability) -- does the plate make the Magic Speed very different in terms of feel despite similarities in foam?

Endorphin speed 2 > 3

My speed3 lasted for less than 300km. The rubber outsole degrades too fast. I hope asics rubber outsole is better but im still eyeing puma deviate nitro over these 2 for that reason.

asic magic speed 2 outsole still lasts after 500k for me, i just got the puma deviate nitro 2 yesterday, is that the same i have, even though it has a plate, i dont feel the plate, but i love the nitro elite foam, soo soft, i own deviate nitro 1 or 2, 1 is hard i think stiff form with just nitro

I find ASICS outsoles last longer than Saucony

I dislike the endorphin speed a lot as a daily trainer. I think it's too firm for everyday use, especially if you have the pro because that foam is night and day and it just shows the potential of what the speed could be. However as a fast day tempo/track shoe it sings.

How far away is the endorphin pro and speed 4? Looks like they are going to have a little powerrun HG

I feel the magic in the endorphin speed shoes but they so destroy my feet. Maybe the magic speeds will be more cozy but with the same get up.

Don't get on with the Endo Speed 3. Been looking for an alternative for ages. Love the Endorphin Pro 3

One advantage that the Magic Speed has is it was released later, so Asics had the benefit of time to continue to evolve their shoe. I would be curious when Saucony has their Speed 4 and how it compares to the Magic Speed. The later releases always have a bit of an advantage.

Endorphin speed 3 is better. The tri 13 was better than endorphin speed 2 for me. Hard to find 13s anymore though.

Have them both now and, along with the Endorphin Speed 2, would rank them this way: 1) ES2 2)MS3 3) ES3. I like the MS3 and was blown away by how poppy it is on tempo runs, but I also wouldn't trust the foam for daily base miles or long runs, unlike the ES2, which I can easily wear for really long days and speed work when necessary. Plus I just don't think the MS3 has the durability of the Endorphin Speeds, which I can (thankfully) get about 500 miles out of without any issues on tread or foam. The ES3, however, is just a dead shoe compared to the other two: too much upper, too wide of a platform, too heavy. I hope Saucony strips it back down on the 4th iteration, because they really did mess up a great shoe on the ES3. Out of curiosity, I tried my Endorphin Pro 3s on side by side with the MS3 and you can really notice the difference in stack and placement of the rockers in both shoes: asics more forward of a ride, Saucony midfoot. Last thing on the MS3 is the minimal upper doesn't offer the greatest lockdown and you can "slide" off the platform when cornering sharp at speed, especially if you got some sweaty socks going, and if anyone has more than an average width foot, I doubt any up-sizing would find a good fit.

@@bluesque9687 if you have a higher tempo cadence, they could work for road sprints, but the foam is really dense and while it is an “all around” shoe, it leans toward cushion.

What Saucony needs to do with the ES4 is to make it a strictly workout/speed/race shoe. Until then I think the MS3 is the winner.

The ES3s killed my feet. Black toenails, plantar fasciitis, you name it. And really uninspiring compared to the ES2. Would be keen to pick up the MS3 if I didn’t already have so many shoes…

The Endorphin Speed 1 and 2 are so much better than the Speed 3. I just don't get the pop in the Speed 3 like I did in the previous versions. Luckily my local shoe store recently had a pair of Speed 2's on sale, so I scarfed that one up big time. May have to try the Magic Speed 3 if someone can tell me that it is comparable to the earlier versions of the Endorphin Speed.

I don’t find the 1-2 better, I find them different. Definitely racier. I still use the Pro 1/2 for 5K, 10K distances, and would choose it in a heartbeat over the speed 3. That said- the Speed 3 can be your daily trainer, tempo day shoe, or anytime you go to a group run where you might need to keep up with the young guys. And- it’s a lot softer and more forgiving than the speed/pro 1-2’s. So- are the 1/2 endorphins better? I think they’re ‘faster’… but less versatile. Oh- and the slight additional width of the Speed3 really makes them more comfortable for a daily.

@@moreybrown870 You pretty much nailed it, the 1/2 are faster for me, so that is the difference from what I perceive to be the slower Speed 3. Speed 3 is still a good shoe, but not what I was looking for or expecting from an Endorphin Speed. As for keeping up with the young guys, ain't ever happening anymore for this old guy.

I feel like the Endorphin Speed gets a ton of attention and people end up sleeping on the Saucony Freedom. No plate & no PB foam, but man everytime I put the Freedom on it pops! I have loved the Freedom since the first edition (Qualified for Boston at Flying Pig Marathon in it) and I have been training in the Freedom 3's. Not sure how the newer shoes are, but I also rarely see shoetubers talking about it either.

I still have a new pair of Freedom 3, the old pair has 2600 km on them, they were my long run and moderate pace shoes. Nowadays, I only reach Freedom 3 for short easy runs, because Asics Novablast and Puma Velocity are better long runs shoes, and Endorphin Speeds are much better M pace long run shoes.

Never been a fan of Asics, the reason is because its toe box is too narrow. Saucony's toe box is always perfect and comfy.

Feel the exact opposite way. My triumph 20’s feel very narrow and make my pinky toe go numb on runs. All of my ASICS feel like they have ample room in the toe box.

I think personally the asics feels more like a traditional racing flat and the upper seems more geared toward a performance fit and upper. Vs the speed 3 to me they put a racing/workout shoe and a daily trainer fit and feel to the upper that’s just to me feels sloppy. The endorphin speed 2 feels a lot better in my opinion. The magic speed 3 you can totally hit longer workouts and speed workout on the track as well in the magic speed. The endophin speed 3 just is confusing to me. Please not the magic speed runs a 1/2 small so order a size up.

Endorphin Speed 2 the 🐐

Asics Magic speed 3 looks closer to what people expected Saucony speed 3 would be based on how speed 2 was, which was more snappy/responsive, but hopefully more stable I love Saucony speed 3 because of the versatility and having a wider foot I like the upper being more relaxed without being sloppy as a daily trainer I can see myself using both where I would use Magic speed 3 on my fastest runs, and Saucony speed 3 as a daily.

Saucony endorphin Speed 3 is such a disappointment. Super mushy. Far too soft. Speed 1 and 2 were almost perfect. Magic speed 3 for the win

Why say 'price- point?' Just say price and have done with it.
