ASIAN STREET FOOD CART Mega Meal || "Oden" Boiled Breakfast in TaiChung!!
If you're familiar with "Oden" already, then you probably won't be surprised by my reaction... but for foreigners, and outsiders, I would LOVE to introduce you today to a truly incredible meal. Looking back on the entire one-month trip to Taiwan, this is definitely a Top-three meal for me. This meal has it all!! Thank you so much for hanging out with us this morning in TaiChung.
A style of food that originates in Japan, 'Oden' is a hit on street corners all over Taiwan. This is a style that mixes healthy traditional ingredients perfectly with mega Taiwanese flavor, and it happens on a budget-friendly scale!! A truly incredible meal, we have over ten different items today and they are all just so good.
You'll notice that while the lovely grandma running this cart prefers to serve her main courses with noodles, there is also a full container of rice cooking and ready to go if anyone needs it... and when Li notices a bonus dish of some incredibly fatty porky goodness, the meal (incredibly!) moves up even one more notch in terms of a full spectrum of flavor enjoyment.
Look out for a meal just like this one the next time YOU visit Taiwan, and until then be well, do good, thanks again for spending time with us.
See you soon!
Joel and Li.

Good Morning Li & Joel ... thanks for more great content from Taichung, Taiwan. On my last visit there, I took the high speed (bullet) train instead of driving from Taipei. Have you tried the high speed train? I will enjoy your video even more as I just returned home from church and am very hungry! Peace be with you!

Good morning good morning you have been the first comment for so many videos in a row now, Ron that is just so cool, so appreciated, so awesome. no I did not take the bullet train because they don’t allow bicycles on that one, but I did take the fast train many times, maybe 10 times in the six weeks total
Joel I love your content you’re soo chill and love how you explain everything the excitement behind it all and the appreciation.
I had the pleasure of trying bitter gourd dim sum in my hometown and then the restaurant moved too far away. It was so good. I hope one day I can try it again

Phoebe :-) happy Monday. Ha ha I love that you said pleasure of bitter gourd because it is such a great thing, it’s almost sad that it has a weird sounding name :-) it’s such a healthy vegetable as well, we usually eat it just fried with eggs and garlic!

Saibaidee Joel! Man those dishes look delicious. Had no idea Taiwan had their own version of Oden. I'm used to the fish cakes in the broth. The pork dish kinda reminds me of Palo minus the hard boiled eggs.

Yoooo dude!!! Hey hey, happy Monday. Yes indeed this breakfast blew me away, the simplicity the look of it just does not prepare you for how awesome the flavor is. Everything is clean, but it’s just so perfectly satisfying. Yes, I was surprised as well, but I have not had Oden in Japan and so this was good enough for me, enough introduction I mean.
Great video.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Ha! David, youre awesome man, thank you for remembering!! Thanks a lot, I have 4 weeks to go, exactly 4 weeks. Im lucky to just have one race (usually) per month, I almost feel bad for guys who have to choose, have to train for multiple events at the same time...
That looks like a wonderful breakfast! and I love that Li enjoyed the zong zi! I make zong zi occasionally using baked chicken thigh and Chinese sausage as the 'stuffing'. But it's better at the restaurant where we sometimes go for dim sum. I guess I had better practice more 😊

Hello Joel and Li . Hope you are enjoying your day. Thank you for another amazing and delicious food video! 😊❤ What is the difference between Taiwan rice and Thai Jasmine rice? Do you have a favorite? I'm on the hunt for the most delicious rice. You have complimented Taiwan rice so much on this series!

Good morning! Hi Christine! Thank you for writing - great question about the rice wow! So, its up to personal preference for sure, but just like (coffee? Like fruit?) the freshness is important, AND I think if you are buying rice in a large supermarket its nearly impossible to determine if the rice is actually fresh... so, over here, where rice is grown, we could actually have rice thats only a few weeks old (or 2-3 months... OR a year old, which might be the case in countries that grow no rice and only import...). So, the answer is not very easy, because I might say that "I like Thai jasmine rice," but if you go to the store and buy a bag that has been sitting for 11 months, you might not be so impressed as if you had it 3 weeks after its been milled, after being grown in my friends' field 10km from my house.

@JoelsTastyRide I'm very picky about rice these days. I always look for the one with the "new crop" stickers. I know some bags sit for a while and don't taste good. The Thai Jasmine rice from Costco is really fragrant, too. I usually spend about 15 to 20 minutes at the Asian store rice isle. 🍚 😆
Awesome man
