Ashens Easter Special 2024

EASTER INNIT
Really good selection of new items in Poundland this year. Including: Shape eggs! Urn rabbits! Horrid bowls! Carrot whisks! And of course a gonk, because everything is terrible.

Theres a designer at poundland who stares dead eyed at these designs, muttering, "this year He will like it... This year...."
I can confirm that chicks come out of the egg wet and slimy with goo and slowly dry off into being super fluffy.

Barry Lewis would probably like the carrot whisk for his gadget drawer.
Fun fact! In US Walmart you can get the carrot whisk marketed as an egg dye tool. Yes really. You're supposed to flatten the whisk part and tuck the egg inside, then let your kids use that to dip the eggs into dye in an attempt to not dye their hands. Which will almost certainly not work, but for the low low price of ~US$2.50 you can have a new piece of plastic for the holiday!

It's likely to get around the FDA laws that govern chinese imports. the plastic and paint is likely not FDA certified so to get around it they just brand it as an egg holder as a loophole so it doesn't get used for cooking scrambled eggs.
I can give some insight on the egg carton mystery: I work in a preschool and can say that the egg carton is a knock-off of a preexisting toy. The eggs for the official version have the shapes molded to the bottom of them so that they can slot into the corresponding spot. Also, the eggs for the official toy have different colored chicks inside that “peep” when you push down on them (kind of horrifying when children pretend to cook them…). Poundland seems to have the mold for the carton, but not the mold for the proper eggs, so they included eggs that are possibly from another toy set.
@anotherhopelessuser

Can confirm the carton is from the Tomy egg sorter with 'peep'ing chicks in, the eggs are from a different set that was a 12 carton of eggs that just do shapes inside

My brother has one that's a whole dozen version of the one shown here (with 12 shapes and 6 colors), albeit without the holes at the bottom of the carton. Didn't know about the chicks version until now. Either way it's a nice take on the classic shapes-going-in-the-holes toys tbh
I bet Stuart didn't noticed how reflective that golden carrot was during recording. We see you in your hat.

No, the other film by the same people called Plague Dogs might, though. It was extremely upsetting to watch as a teenager, and I can handle most horror films, but animal abuse is a sore spot for me and the plot is basically that two dogs escape from a laboratory where they’ve been experimented upon in the way that was still legal in the 1970’s, and that’s shown in detail. It was inspired by the experiments early behaviourists like Skinner had done.

The fake lego wombat and the bird clips were definitely highlights this year. I like how the fake lego had lots of smaller pieces so you could make it into other things easily, it wasn't just some mini figure.
@MrWolfSnack

The cost ratio of making bootleg lego parts has likely dropped down low enough they can make huge sets to sell in pound shops. I have seen them getting more and more elaborate. I have a few fake lego models, large models of cars that lego will not or doesn't get license to make. I never promote using glue on lego models but the fake lego was so awful I did have to use glue to hold them together as halfway through the build the whole thing came apart.
3:40 As a chicken and duck farmer, I can confirm that they're covered in goo when they hatch. It's not for a good bit afterwards they really fluff out.
In no particular order: I think that's the Ghost of the Wererabbit (holding the Golden Carrot Award). Freshly-hatched chicks are damp, but dry out quite quickly (I vividly remember a sequence of photos from a book I had as a child, showing the hatching process from start to finish). I think that goose statue has escaped from the weird colouring book with all the giant boots. Ever encountered picture book, "The Flat Rabbit"? Looks as though someone in Poundland's development wing has done so. That fake Lego thing is too plantigrade to be a dog - it's most likely a bear. If only the carrot whisk were metal rather than silicone, I might actually buy one - it looks genuinely quite cool.
The Playboy bunny clutching an urn/marital aid is the kind of temporary decor they had at the Eyes Wide Shut party.

I had an egg set when I was a kid in the early 90s, from what I remember they're supposed to have the shape on the underside of the egg to sit in the outline in the tray as well as the shape matching inside, so they've almost got it right but seem to have half arsed it midway through production
The Stitchrabbit is an unknowable horror which remains underdiscussed in historical and more contemporary grimoire. Intended to be seen from the side only, the Stitchrabbit is known to roam the forests of the globe in small numbers, luring in prey by appearing to be an otherwise normal rabbit. When its prey is spotted by use of its false eye and within its strike range, it will turn to face its prey and unhinge itself downward from its center, revealing its internal true eyes, mouth, and teeth. Its actual anatomy is understudied as few specimens have even been observed, let alone with a closeness to study and understand its anatomy, but what is understood is that it does not abide by the known rules of logic, physics, and reality. It possesses no viewable throat, stomach or any other construct that doesn't compose the false lagomorphic exterior, and its mouth appears to lead to a void where no form of light pierces, behaving similar to a vantablack surface or a black hole. It is known to consume other prey animals around its own size, up to the size of adult moose, whole and alive. Research is still underway and no known means of containment exist.

Technically the urn rabbit and the flock rabbit are in fact hares (it says so on the label).
1:55 Actually Pepco is a discount retail store chain that serves in most countries of Europe and also *they own Poundland* in the UK and Dealz in Poland. We have Pepco stores where I live and most stores are about half clothing and have a lot of home décor tat and very little tech stuff, but otherwise quite similar to any other discount store. If you see more "pepco" labelled products in Poundland then maybe they are undergoing brand consolidation, or just couldn't be bothered to print a separate Poundland label for seasonal products because that costs money.
