Ashburton local here. This illustrates Council wastage of rate payers funds. A call out via a contractor will cost at least $150 and 75 visits means at least $10k has been wasted on this issue. Totally unacceptable waste of rate payers resources and likely indicative of an independent contractor 'milking it'...

I had a problem with my neighbours 2 dogs barking from the moment their owners left to go to work and didnt stop until they came home .... drove me fricken insane (I was self-employed and working from home) Tried to talk to the neighbours (whom told me to F off) .... then made a complaint to council "dog control" unit (who wanted me to note the time/days and lengths of the barking for 2 months before they would do anything) ... this wasnt going to shut these mutts up. (I knew what could fix the barking and real fast but didnt want to get in trouble with the police lol 😋) I found a solution by purchasing a Ultrasonic Anti-Bark Control System (not a cheap one either) and turning it on at full blast ... took just a couple of days and then the problem was resolved 😁 .... Silence is truly golden 😇

Most dogs bark from boredom and or psychosis from being alone and locked in a relatively small area. I had the problem with a neighbors dog across the quiet street. Week days wasn’t a problem because we worked. The weekend was unbearable with none stop howling and barking. I was so indignant and felt a little sorry for the dog I grabbed a large handful of cat biscuits and threw them around the garden on the deck all over the place. The dog immediately started to sniff out and eat every last biscuit and we didn’t hear from the dog for a couple of hours. Worth a try.

I have to rehome a dog. It's small and barks a lot. If you're interested leave a message and I'll climb over the neighbour's fence and get it.

Many years ago I lived in Wanganui. I had neighbor who alleged my dogs barked all day. After contact with the council who informed of this complaint, spoke with my other neighbours who told me they barked as I drove off in the morning and then nobody heard anything the rest of the day, which wasnt what the individual claimed. By a bit of good luck, I realised I worked with this persons brother. Turns out he lived by himself and a computer geek and had gone abit bitter. Brother told him to pull his head in and stop being a dick.

Council too gutless to do anything. I had the same issues with neighbors barker.....too many phone calls to remember... Local Oamaru council member told me " to sell our house and move". I didnt have a name..unfortunately!

It's an antagonising and hugely stressful issue, for sure. Re a 'device' tho...ummm... what's wrong with someone making a verifiable video with sound on their smartphone? I have done this once or twice when confronted by sthng similar (I am a full time house sitter and sometimes I can't choose my neighbours and their dog behaviours!!!). Half the battle is feeling supported and validated: they the complainant is NOT making this up, IS suffering impacted quality of live, and needs additional third party help to resolve, when obv direct approach is not getting the result with the neighbour in question. Camera. Video. Smartphone.
