I don't think that's not a legitimate reason to use your horn, firstly a beep doesn't mean go its for an alert/warning/danger. Second if a driver has overshot the lights and for some reason there aren't any on the other end they'll still likely know by the halting of the other lanes of traffic and if not after several seconds maybe you could alert them to move but the driver in the video honked after about 1 second. Lastly this clip specifically, there's three lanes of traffic leaving that light so even if the van can't see the lights he's going to see the other two lanes moving off. If the van was sat there not moving for a decent amount of time I could believe it was to notify them that they could go but this was about 1 second, it was definitely driven by impatience and not doing them a favour.

I’ve followed your channel for years now and I always love how you react to SO MANY bad drivers. I can’t drive myself though I did my preliminaries around 35 years ago in my brother’s van; this was a Ford box van mark 2 I believe and there just wasn’t enough space for me in the driver’s seat ! I had the seat all the way back on the base ratchet and being 6ft 3 at the time, with very long legs, I kept catching my knees on the dash’ under the steering wheel, meaning I couldn’t move my foot quick enough between pedals (steering columns were fixed back then), so I kept jumping the brakes. Two weeks after trying to teach me the basics of driving, my brother had to scrap his van as it had a broken chassis ! Whether I had anything to do with it I’ll never know. I did try to get behind the wheel of several cars just to see if I could fit but I always had problems ! Despite being very tall, I was also very hefty (still am but not as heavy these days), so I never learnt to drive, but I do know my Highway Code pretty well even with its updates and the amount of idiots I see as a pedestrian alarms me. Living in the suburbs of Manchester in the foothills of the Pennines, I see lots of ‘passing through’ traffic who have no idea of the road layouts and I’ve witnessed many accidents. One of my other brothers has become a driving instructor as a side line to his main job and is a conscientious guy. We all learned as children to respect one another and help if we could. Our dad joined the police force in 1951 and they taught him to drive, so we learnt from one of the best drivers of the time ! Keep up the good work Ashley !

That first one reminded me of why a really dislike the newer smart puffin crossings. I normally use my body to comunícate intent, at chossing it’s right up to the front for I’m going to jump it when safe, normal for waiting for green man and then I take a large step back for emergency services to say I’m giving up my right of way and won’t cross even on a green man till you passed, the thing I hate is that last one means that on the smart ones the wait button gets canceled cos I’m not right under the sensor

This video deserves an Oscar. Absolute perfection. Straight out of the gate, a beautiful example of how a simple observation gives you a HUGE amount of information. Most drivers would have been up behind those two cars and run into the back of them when things got brake-checky. A simple observation of steering direction allowed you to anticipate that situation before the drivers even got angry - amazing. 2. Cheery salute from the disgruntled former subscriber in the van going over the bridge. 3. Lovely use of a central position to make the road safe for that lady crossing. 4. A taxi driver actually driving well!!! 5. A dog driving a car Beautiful. Only slight criticism I can say is a bit of a fast/close pass on that van in the last clip but otherwise doing the Lord’s work in this video. So many good clips here. This is what I sub for.

Using my bus pass more now fuel prices crazy, but gives chance to observe things. Saw a taxi driver in stationary traffic queuing for a crossing a few days ago, sounding his horn repeatedly at the car in front as he wanted to turn left at a junction in front of that car, if the car had moved forward it would have blocked a marked box junction and prevented vehicles turning in from the opposite direction or coming out from the left to turn right, yet it would have been quite intimidating for the driver to hold still and obey the law. This is far from uncommon behaviour with taxi drivers in my experience on the road.

Nobody seems to understand box junctions. There's a roundabout near the Cribbs Causeway shopping centre in Bristol, where one of the exits merges from 2 lanes into 1 due to roadworks. There's always a clog of traffic there, (because of course nobody can merge in turn) and it sometimes backs up onto the roundabout itself. I'm coming home from work one day, taking the roadworks exit. Due to the stopped traffic, I hold back from the box junction which keeps the entrance before my exit clear. So what happens? People from said entrance pile into the box, clogging it up. Traffic from that junction just keeps on pulling me out, leaving me stranded. I eventually just had to push my way in and sit in the box junction, or I would've been stuck there for ages. I didn't want to, but what choice did I have?

When I was a learner driver, while approach an intersection (green lights) there were a couple cars turning left across my lane (right-hand traffic, so that's the once which turns across the oncoming lane) That's not a problem in and of itself as there was a sufficient gap in front of me for a car or two to turn, but even a third wanted to just turn, and, while I did not have to emergency brake, I had to pretty firmly step on the brakes to avoid a collision. I was surprised that people do such things when they see a learner driver approaching. (I hope they saw me approaching)

If you see something that small on road in front, it best to block the lane, layby or main road if safe to do so with hazard lights on facing front of injured bird. Exit vehicle facing oncoming traffic, place cone sign, warning triangle with due care mostly at front driver side of van and take precaution facing oncoming traffic than facing away. I'm not sure a stiffer test is the answer. All these idiots (assuming they actually have a licence) have presumably met the test standard, which in the UK is pretty rigorous compared to many places in the world. It's what happens next that's important: they've been taught what they should do, but they choose not to do it, and that's all to do with mind-set. They're either too lazy, too arrogant or take so llttle pride in maintaing standards, and that can only be overcome by much more initial training or constant refresher training. Professional PCV & HGV drivers have to do a mandatory 35 hours every five years to keep their Certificate of Professional Competence. Maybe it's time all drivers had to do one day a year refresher training with somebody like Ashley?

the forced passing reminds me of something that happened in the icelandic countryside where i was on a dirt road approaching a single car bridge, and a landcruiser coming up on the other side... he was speeding, and i could see he was speeding to get over the bridge before me, i didn't slow down too much but i could tell his intention, yeah... he sped as fast as he could, risking my life and possibly his to get over the bridge first, and the dirt road is not wide either so once we passed i had to make way almost off the road for his egocentric narcissist behaviour. scary.

Hi Ashley I have a QUESTION, not related to this video but it’s baffling me, I saw a clip that said it’s higher risk then drink driving to talk hands free on your phone, but in my mind surely it’s the same as talking to ur passenger or talking to a camera while making a video :) ? Please can u help me clear this up ! Thanks Paul
