Every time I get in the car I am fully aware of my surroundings, I know what's in front, behind and at the side of me and then, suddenly, something unexpected happens and I think I’ve still got a lot to learn - and Ashley would be calling me out. Such as, “Our viewer thinks he's done alright but really he's a tw*t (choose your own vowel)!” And of course he wouldn’t say that, but that's what we think he means! At around 10.08you say, “Nice one mate, did you do that as a kid?” Well, you see, I didn’t see what he saw, so I’m clearly not as observant as I think! should I give up driving now?!

The Porsche getting beeped by the Audi similarly happened to me. Instead i slowed down to let someone walk across the road on a junction turn, i later looked at my rear dash cam footage and the driver when they beeped looked completely puzzled to why i stopped, their face was priceless. Yep, two days ago I had the arm waving asking me to go while waiting for a pedestrian cross and only this morning one of the vehicles behind beeped in anger as the pedestrian crossing lights had turned green to allow cars to proceed but people were still crossing. It is a bad crossing for that but I wait for everyone to finish while other drivers will want to nudge through as if they have some sort of “right of way” - which we know doesn’t exist Having reviewed the rear camera…the beep wasnt in anger as initially thought but was our friend the taxi driver seeing a green light while sorting out his paperwork and deciding to use the horn

It always amazes me how many people ignore the illegality of pavement parking. I believe the highway code states one is not permitted to drive on the pavement, unless accessing a driveway. So how did they manage to get the vehicle on the pavement without driving on it? It massively disadvantages those with disabilities too. Utter selfish behaviour. I do wish Ash would point it out more in his videos. But I just couldn't believe the people that did just straight up drive on the pavement. I've seen it in real life too. In an area where children play on their bikes on the pavement regularly. So dangerous.

  • @ArminGrewe

@@stephenjamespayne6131 yes, that's the strange thing: parking on the pavement is not illegal outside of London. But driving on the pavement is (except for a few rare exceptions like the one you mentioned). Which begs the question, how did all the cars parking on the pavement get there? Did they fly? Were they beamed over?

Where I lived a few years back was a 40 mph dual carriageway and a motor spares shop opened up near the junction. There was a narrow access road to serve the parade of shops which 99.9% of people used. However sometimes a driver would pull up on a red close to the kerb without signalling, get out and simply go in the spares shop. It caused mayhem.

This really boils my piss. Where I live they haven’t cottoned on to grade separation and thus have pedestrian crossings either side of non signalised roundabouts and also on the short stretch of road in between, there’s something like 8 pedestrian crossings within a half mile stretch of ring road and at least one of them you don’t really need the lights as you can cross using a pedestrian refuge when the crossing up the road is used. So someone comes along, presses the button, realises there’s no cars because they are stopped at the previous crossing, crosses and is away from the crossing so that you just clear the last one and get up to speed as this one changes to red. When I’m at the previous crossing I always look down to the next one now to see if any fucker is crossing there so I know to expect the red light.

It was not necessary to move out to overtake that bus so early, and may not have been necessary at all, as the time it had been stopped for was sufficient for passenger movement, and the bus was on the move again before you went past. What could potentially happen is the driver in front delayed to move out as they could see a driver behind moving out to overtake them, and waited to check that you were not going at excessive speed wishing to pass them, before safely moving out to pass the bus.

Impatience is the issue in a lot of these clips. Thought about this channel earlier today when I was driving to my local Sainsbury’s! It’s located on a retail park and there’s a 3 lane section on the approach (as you come off a roundabout) with the right hand lane right turn only for said retail park. You can go straight on in both of the other lanes. There are signals and I was slowing to queue at lights - because there’s only one right turn lane it often means there’s a long queue. Someone in an old Astra cut in from the left and tried to wedge themselves into the gap I’d left from the car in front. I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it was down to bad planning or not being able to get across but I quite often find drivers going down the middle lane and then cutting in dangerously just because they are special and don’t think they to queue like everyone else.

That last one was interesting. I learned to never overtake at a junction because it is a higher danger. Why did you choose to do that, with the added danger of the vehicle following (close) behind?

Ashley said you have to adapt if the situation changes but if someone comes out of that junction in that scenario then you are screwed! You can’t tuck back in because the car behind has decided to follow on.

Last week I was approaching a T shaped mini roundabout in my bus, I'm coming from the right of the 'T' and signalling left to turn down the stalk. Theres a police van coming the opposite way with 2 police officers inside. They are not signalling and since 95% of traffic approaching that way goes straight over this is what I'm fully expecting them to do. Well, they signalled right after entering the roundabout. I'm a bit close at this point but I can still stop, though I need to brake much harder than I normally would and I would've stopped a bit over the give way line. This is when the police officer beeped at me in anger. They then proceeded to speed down the 20mph road we both exited into, I'm guessing they were doing around 30, and then turned right at the next roundabout without using any signals whatsoever. 4 bad examples in the space of 1/4 of a mile. What hope is there?

@9:00 Perhaps this driver moving to the left is simply following the road signs? I believe they started indicating just after the first road sign for the business parks, I am not familiar with the area so may be wrong! Yes, they could have planned the route better but maybe couldnt remember which lane for every junction.

I do think some people drive as though they cannot see more than two car lengths in front of them as in the bus example. I forgive the learner who missed the grey car as when you do start out learning to look down the road is one of those things you must practice.

Just yesterday, I learnt from 2 great community support officers - who were walking - that they even need to do a training course to ride a police bicycle (no joke), so surely the car driver would have had additional training to drive a police car?!

Driving is pretty much a giant, never-ending game of what-if. I taught my daughter to always assume every other driver is blind, drunk, or stupid, maybe all three, so you never know what he's going to do. And remember, I said to her, crashes always happen to the other guy, but to every other driver, _you_ are the other guy.

It's possible the police car was on an urgent, but not emergency, call. So if they deemed it safe (which to be fair, it was) they can go through the first reds but at the 2nd junction they deemed it unsafe so they waited. Maybe I'm giving them too much credit but this is what I would hope to be the case.

I think the police car did what many would do in that situation and just misjudged how much time they have. Its better to go through on amber than slam the brakes on in some cases. Another possibility is they were responding to something without blues on and as they could see no traffic onto the roundabout they passed, but at the next set there was traffic moving out. Just my 10p

Will catch up with this as soon as I can. Greetings from RHS Malvern Spring Festival at the Three Counties Showground near Malvern. Stopped off at the British Motor Museum in Gaydon on the way up yesterday. And on the drive up, kept thinking "I wonder what Ashley would make of my driving". Oh and my GPS based speedo recorded that my max speed from Canterbury to Birmingham and down to Malvern was 74 mph, during 245 miles of driving. Room for improvement right there!

7:03 They're not on a blue-light call without the blue lights on, because there is no such thing. They are obligated to make sure other road users are not endangered by their breaking of the road traffic act, and they do that by showing they are on an emergency call, by using their emergency lights. There is no way it's legal for a cop car to pass through a red light without showing they're on a call. There is just no way for that to be safe or legal. I get that sometimes they have the lights off, so they can sneak up on a situation, but under those circumstances, they have to obey the same traffic laws as everyone else. They are not exempt from following the rules. They have a duty of care.

I honestly love learner drivers. They may not have the best skills or reaction times, but Christ, they're predictable and I'd argue a LOT safer than drivers that have had their licence for decades. The lack of back habits just contrasts the amount of bad habits road users pick up pretty much immediately after their test.

6:30. For me there is no such thing as a "blue light call without blue light". If they don't have the blue light beacons on, they are the same as any other vehicle and must obey the same rules. Especially that they stopped on the next set of lights. There should be consequences. Just my opinion.
