To those who don't know, Ash was convinced to rejoin tennis from Casey after she tried cricket and became the best female cricketer as soon as she joined. I grew up two houses up from the Barty's (Ivy St, Springfield) and I'm telling you first hand that girl was an EFFING beast at basketball too wed play on the street and every Christmas.. she embodies and represents what people from Ipswich are like so well and we are so proud to have her. Even after all the money she made she built her big new house.. guess where? Ipswich ❤️ Home is where her heart lies you're my hero Ash I'm so glad to have grown up around you bc it really inspires me through everyday life to see what you've achieved having grown up the same street I did. One day I hope to have daughters and I'd want them to have your beautiful soul. I've done a lot of travel now and it's awesome to hear Ash feels the same as me, Ipswich has the nicest people you will meet anywhere in the world. You'll always be offered a lift home if you don't have a car. Someone will always come over and have a chat with you if you're sitting in a mall by yourself. Been around the world but there's truly no people as humble, funny and grounded as Ipswichians.

Two great champions and role models won this weekend - Ash and Rafael. Couldn't have been a better outcome.

She is a champion both on court and off court. 😍

I'm Czech and I have always loved her for being so down-to-earth and being such a normal person. That's more important than winning at the end of the day.

There's a true champion humble and professional. There's no primadonna in Ash Barty. Well done girl you've done Australia proud. 🇦🇺🇦🇺👍

Well she just announced her retirement and watching this back the last time we will see her in a grand slam or playing tennis hits home! You can now see when she was asked "What's next for Ash Barty?" that she wasn't giving anything away just living in the moment. She achieved more than most pro tennis players would in a short space of time and will go down a legend of the sport on and off the court. Such a graceful and humble human, wishing her all the best for the future and know she'll be successful in anything she does.

AGREE! I love watching Ash's matches - and can't wait to hear how she contributes to the Coaching Program with her Heroine Evonne Goolagong Cawley and hopefully she will get married and have children of her own too. Go well Ash. Lots of fishing!

I'm so bloody proud of that girl! Brings a tear to my eye. She redefines perfection! I don't agree with sports people automatically being seen as role models, Ash shows how to earn that respect. Absolute champion!

She's a freak athlete, I grew up down the road from her (Ivy St, Springfield) and wed play sports every Xmas with the Bartys. Besides cricket and tennis I'm telling you first hand that girl was an effing BEAST at basketball too.. her attitude has always stayed the same not a fake bone in her body. Sure you can if you want to be friends only. You wouldn’t call a spouse or partner mate, so if you wanted to be more than just friends with the girl I wouldn’t call her mate. Mate is a term we use for friends both male & female.
