    The composition is nifty, but the performance really makes this. I'm astonished that this is just two performers, and their shared sense of timing is incredible.

    The composition is what makes the performance lol. Like yeah, they performed it beautifully, but anyone performing the composition correctly would do the same. Not saying it's easy I just think it's funny you value the performance over the composition.

    What about the composition ? It's a percussion piece and you can reduce the most important to 5 or 6 : Rebounds, Ionisation, Les Guetteurs de son, …they do a real job, of amazing taste…and the As One title is enough to understand the composition, no ?

    jazzyfizzle so lets say there are 2 people, and they play 4 quarter notes together. Person 1 plays notes on 1 and 3, and person 2 plays notes on 2 and 4. Thats basically what splits are kinda.

    In terms of the piece, this may be one of few times I understand the people who can call a piece of music "uninspired technical wankery." That being said, holy shit the performers are ridiculously good. This work may only exist to showcase how talented some people are but it works, those two dudes are obviously talented and we have been shown this.
