Yep, the birth rates in East asian countries are even worse than the birth rates in western country. Asian women really dislike their own men. Which goes to show even returning to Asia might not work.

I think 90's canada and 90's europe were almost like a dreamland. Specially Europe but now they both have gone to sh!t, only some small countries in europe still feel like europe. Asian countries are also doing great compared to the rest. I think what you could do i find a high paying remote job and move to asia, then there you can start worrying about learning the local language.

If he cannot afford to live in Canada, how can he live in Singapore. Malaysia might be a better choice if he has a skill. By the way, I recently learned that foreigners can rent in public housing units in Singapore, they are simply not shown these lower priced units by the rental agents looking for larger commissions.

It makes sense to retire to a cheaper jurisdiction. But it seems that he doesn't acknowledge that Canada gave him the income and pension that makes it a possibility. Folks who spent their entire lives in Portugal or many asian countries can't use Canadian/US purchasing power to their advantage.

Yes, the sh_t started in 2008, I remember the finance minister of Quebec announced, one week prior to the crash, "there is no problem". That is when I lost faith in the official line and discovered "The multiple levels of reality". We waited for 4 years for business to pick up, it never really took off; if it wasn't for the artificial stimulus, all this would have occurred way before. This year, after paying in to the system, I have no extra $$$ to do things. Welcome to Canada, notwithstanding the small population, it is instituted tax holdup.

Actually most people here haven’t been to other countries and don’t know that it’s even worse there. I recently visited my family in India and met a Canadian person there. He could speak the language but had never been to India before. He was clueless. Looking at the new infrastructure he was thinking of living there. I just laughed at him. It’s only after you’ve lived there you realize how many local issues like corruption, extremely low wages, chaotic, and how much worse the difference between the rich and poor is. There is almost no social security. You pay western bills for western level service. It’s not cheaper.

It's human nature to see that the grass is greener on the other side until you actually go there. Every place has its pros and cons. People are all different so they'll either stay or go depending on their personal situation. It's not pathetic to leave your home base and explore other places in the world. it's not always about having it easier but figuring things out for yourself.

The real problem? People lack gratitude. No solutions. Only complaining. Only part of the problem. People don't understand history and economic cycles. People don't understand migration patterns. This is historical. Everybody doesn't care when times were good. Party hardy. But when times are bad, lots of blame and no personal accountability and responsibility. This boom bust cycle is every 7 to 10 years. It's clockwork. During good times people don't save and invest. They're profligate running up debt. Then when it's rainy days they blame it on everything and everybody else but themselves. People need to look in the mirror. The people that prepared in the good times don't care when bad times come. They are living easy regardless of inflation, recession, and market crash. Covid crash let some air out of the ever inflating tire. But it will pop. Probably next year. Market crash is coming. Get ready. Mark my words. Don't say I didn't warn you. As for debt, people make money from it. It's called CDOs and credit default swaps. The Big Short 2.0 is coming. Where will you be and what will you do. Good luck. Cheers.

Bro isn't moving to Portugal or Spain. He doesn't say he knows "how to speak Portugal", and likely doesn't. Better just make the most of where you're at. Don't like the government? It's Canada. Run for political office. Your chances of winning are better than most places, but not with that oversimplified "dad borrowed a trillion dollars and left me the bill" analogy. Also, 56 years old is not practically "retired". It's nearly a decade away from retirement age. Lastly, Canada is IN America. You mean the "United States". So Canadians are "Americans". Please stop referring to the U.S. as "America". This is incorrect. You have DuoLingo and many options for learning languages but complain you only know English.
