I agree it's impressive. Neither French nor Japanese people are known to be good at languages. I guess speaking two languages from birth makes one more susceptible to learning another one.

@@misterwhyteActually French younger generation is heavily exposed to American culture, therefore it’s not that surprising to see young frenchies talking English, I’d say, most of us at least understand basic English ! Nowadays learning new languages is easily accessible, also, English is really close to French, I guess. Anyway her accent is more accurate than most French people !

My parents and French speaking family members say that it just "comes naturally" but I don't get it.

@@tsuyuasui7297 Interesting question! We mostly learn the gender of words as children by repeating words as they are said to us. We generally use "le/la" or "un/une" or an adjective that gives you the gender when saying a word. I sometimes quiz my 3-year-old nephew about the gender of certain words like pois chiche or ananas because I've heard him make the mistake before but he says everything else correctly. There are some words whose gender many French people use incorrectly (like pétale, horaires, oasis). For some of them, the mistake comes from the fact that they're almost always used in plural where you can't hear the gender in "les". For the other words, it might come from a phonetic wrong impression (pétale sounds rather feminine but it's masculine). I've learnt Spanish as a third language to a fluent level and I've never struggled with genders even when they're not the same as in French. I guess it comes more easily when your first language has grammatical genders. I hope this answers your question!

May I ask if French is a native language of yours? As a native French-speaker I thought her vocabulary and grammar were quite familiar actually. Not vulgar by any means, just young and cool. It's interesting that whatever we say in French, it'll be perceived as elegant by people who don't speak it natively.
