You're right! This makes total sense. I watched the movie after seeing this video and I liked it a lot. Just as Meido said, the tale is very bittersweet and it reflects Hamaji and Shino's own love story. [SPOILERS AHEAD] I love how Hamaji slowly realizes that the Fuse aren't what she and everyone else thinks they are and that she actually loves Shino. Then she rushes to save Shino from being hunted down as he storms the castle. But then Shino spares the Shogun, the one who started the whole mess and tried to kill him, therefore both sides broke the cycle of kill or be killed. But since it's not that simple, Shino runs away to hide until he can reunite with Hamaji one day. In short, the dog and the girl were brought together by war, loved each other when it was forsaken, yet their passion ultimately triumphed in the end. Man I want to see them together again and happy, though. Would have tied up the story very nicely. Curse you open ending!

One of the people how worked on some Ghibli films DID actually head this film, thus the influence. It's not nearly as good as a Ghibli film unfortunately. It still has its moments though.

She had a kid with a dog... weird flex but ok Edit: I cannot stress this enough. It.was.a.joke.

Ah, Princess Fuse. Her story was imported from a China origin myth of the Yao and Miao peoples, who believe their ancestor was a Princess' pet dog who slew a rival king and earned her hand in marriage. The dog's name was Panhu, and he was also known as the Five-Colored-Dog. In some stories, the dog told the princess to let him meditate within a cave for a week so that he could attain a human form, but the princess became worried and opened the cave too early, interrupting his transformation and leaving him with a dog's head. In other stories, he never attained a human form. Either way, they both had multiple sets of twin children, who then intermarried themselves to create new tribes from which the Yao and Miao people claim descent. If it makes people feel less irked, it's very likely that the word 'dog' to describe Panhu was a derogatory way to reference a barbarian in service to the king. Because he the barbarian managed to slay the King's rival, he earned the right to marry the Princess and elevate his status and that of his descendants. At the same time, the King had designated the territory of the mountains where Panhu and the Princess left to as his territory. All in all, it sounds like a barbarian loyalist was legitimized and raised to noble status by their marriage to the princess and given new territory to rule in exchange for his military service.

Yes, he was. He was killed before his mother was and part of her knew it when she was running away which is why when she knew she was going to die she said that she would go see him. This scene also reveals that Shino basically raised that child so it must have been very painful for him too.

Wasn't her son the pup on the display with the others. Hamaji was horrified when she saw him because he was just a puppy/child. The wolf group came to Edo together.

I've watched the movie. There wasn't any hint about why those two characters dress like that, or why Hamaji's gun looks like a giant hair dryer xD it is quite a weird movie but the animation style is quite interesting, and it is beautifully drawn.

This is so underrated. I loved this movie so damn much!!!

New animes need to stop with the rubber sticker animation look. Stiff and also wierd to have some overly done black outline on a character. Also, while I like some animes looking more like the manga and less like a normal anime (beautiful or not), they really need to stop forcing random CGI In wierd places (sailor moon crystal is guilty to me of the latter-love the manga look, not the cgi pre season 3). Dragonball Super is like the 100% example of "everything wrong with" right now. Sometimes it's comprehensible while something from now may not look as awesome as something from the early 2000's with a bigger budget, less labor laws, OR at the absolute height of popularity for a show that tossing as much money into it will still mean huge returns. However, the fact there is stuff with filler episodes that already isn't high budget all over from the 80's that looks better is when things are just literally a proven mess in the industry.
