As a gamer - Gaming is a waste of time

Ойын-сауық

This one hits directly to my heart. As a addicted gamer, I used to play hours everyday to get better ranks, highscores, times... you name it, tried it.
This video is directly made for teenage me and other casual gamers to open their eyes to life and what potential hours you could spend doing otherwise for a better and more sustainable happier life.
This is not for anyone who earns any revenue from gaming or e-gamers (which is a very small minority). If that is your ultimate goal in life, then by all means GO FOR IT.

Nadeshot PewDiePie and Dr disrespect they are entertainers not gamers. Gamers play games for no reason and entertainers play games for money. Entertainers waste time making money and gamers waste time playing games. Gaming isn't a skill but entertaining is a skill. Adult stars make money for playing games while gamers will never make money on twitch.

I don't have much time to play anymore and don't regret the time I played video games, but I wish I made sure to play games that meant something to me rather then time wasting games. I can only really make time for games to socialize. I feel I'd trade every hour of TikTok for just a few minutes of gaming with friends since the memory I've made gaming would last a life time, but I can't even remember any short I've watched. But I do agree that too much gaming can quickly become a hazard; on the other hand I'd like to try and play more fighting games at local meetups and get to know people who are passionate about something I find cool.

Really cool video, and a great message as well! I see two main problems with video games. They are extremely addicting, and they usually take a lot of mental energy. Personally, I’ve tried the “just play on weekends for a couple of hours” advice, and it did not work. How do you expect a gamer since childhood to be satisfied with just a couple of hours, and to have the self control to stop after that? It just wasn’t going to happen. So, I just stopped playing video games, and now I have the time and energy to focus on other stuff related to my future career, workout, meet friends, and pursue other more meaningful hobbies.

yeah i see your view! the way i tackle that is to restrict games i already know it would take too much from me. Watching youtube videos doesn't give you the impression that you're achieving something though, which is a major aspect of what makes video games so bad. I can definitely admit this. Although I still love gaming whenever I get the chance to out of my busy schedule, looking back, I wasted a LOT of time trying to be a successful Trophy Hunter on Playstation. I would spend way too much time trying to grind for menial achievements that brought me no tangible reward, all for the sake of watching a virtual number rise. I would make the excuse that "It's helping me get the most out of the games I buy" or, "I get more enjoyment out of it". But the irony is, a lot of those trophies would actually end up being incredibly frustrating to earn lol. And even more often, once I finally got a Platinum trophy for a game, I would sit there for a moment and contemplate all the time it took to get it, and then start to think about which would I would do next. And a lot of these games weren't ones I would normally play, but because they had easily achievable trophies, I would get them just for the sake of getting them. I definitely had a problem then, but certainly don't now. Now I take my gaming time into more careful consideration and play the games that I actually wanna play, and not for the sake of grinding trophies that I'll never touch again after the fact.

I've been a gamer since 1996. I noticed that as i age i spend less time playing. I may keep buying new hardware but that does not translate into more time gaming. The strange thing is I tend to go back to simple gaming even after upgrading the gaming PC to the latest spec. Now I spend more time on the 3DS than on my PC. I for one have always been a critic of hard games - we basically play games to unwind after a hard day/week's work, not to repeatedly replay a game level like it's a chore rather than a game to unwind to. It's hard enough we have to put in week's grind to pay the bills so the idea of making a difficult game just doesn't make sense to me.

You're correct, but I disagree on a personal level. I'm thankful to have been exposed to video games as a form of art, expression, and narrative device when I was still very young, so even as a child I treated them differently than say, a toy or a gadget. People have all kinds of reasons for playing games, but escapism or relaxation was never my reason, even if I understand that it is for the majority of people. To me, games at their best are as important as films and books, but there is a massive distinction between spending your time on BioShock, or spending it on Valorant. On Ico, or on Fortnite. On Silent Hill, or on League of Legends. To me, why play Genshin Impact for 100 hours when in that same time you can play all of Deus Ex, Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Fallout, Fallout 2, Portal, Portal 2, System Shock, and probably still have enough time leftover to read at least half of a Dostoevsky novel?

Simply True. For me, I have deleted or sold every single reliability I had with games to force myself to never come back into this sheep infested waste of life. Then, you are free. There are no sunk cost fallacy, no wasted passion, energy, time, money and no space for possibility to ever go back. You can finally enjoy 99.99% of life other than just the 1 thing of a virtual video game. If you live in the mountains, completely isolated from society, then video games or even recreational drugs could be viable because there is no meaning of time or "money"(=time) or social value. However, if you live in a society, among other people with rules and regulations, there are some things that matter more than others, and these things cannot be avoided unless you give up and intentionally live unsocial. If you have any passion for even the slightest thing other than recreational activity, you should pursue them immediately. Games are just an immediate reward response, just like any other instant dopamine which is manipulated so that the one providing it gains money = time on the expense of your time. If you say games are useful, you are simply coping and I feel bad for you because when you come out to the real offline world with many great diverse people, your thousands of hours in video gaming is worthless, which could have been spent of much better things. People who cope say things like "it gives you a virtual experience of marketing or business", why don't you just get a degree or get a job in that field, start your own business because learning from video games is not valid in society and the things you learned are the things everyone already knows which does not increase your value as a social member at all. Think about it, if you said to someone, video games helped me more than anything else in life, nobody will side with you, even yourself if you hear it from somebody else. Just simply a loser and always will be. Just like how university does not give you success, life is not fair or logical. Only the things that matter do, especially for you. Unless you are the 0.0001% minority who happen to make money or value through video games at a life changing amount, all of you are wasting valuable time that you could be using in the vastly different things in life that matter the most. The most painful thing is whenever you come back to the real offline world after you finished your period of virtual video gaming. Even if you were the one who spent thousands of hours as a veteran in something that gives you nothing in return, whenever you wake up to the real world to pay bills, go to school, search for your own passion or finding a partner, going on a date, meeting new people, becoming financially free, the recreational games mean absolutely nothing because it was just a scheme for the supplier(developer) to earn time and money by the expense of all you gamers who waste your precious time and money playing it. What's even more depressing is that those who are more dedicated in games are people who can really outshine in life too, just unfortunately stepped in a never ending quick sand of fake virtual video game that sucks you in harder the more to stay in it. Just delete everything, and enjoy the rest of your life if you want to achieve even the slightest thing in the social world. Its far more better than you can imagine because I know most of you want to compete and win in the real world.

I partially agree, but the problem is more complex. As a lot of other enterteinment products, the quality time depends on the consumers, and not on the product itself. Gaming is not a waste of time more than watching a movie or admire some art, is just more addictive. It doesn't give you any practical skill, but you'll have some good time, it can be inspiring and put on the table some good questions. Sometimes can also give you some good skill as a collateral (which, of course, you can learn with other activities). The problem is when you do nothing or think about nothing else than gaming, when you don't grow up, you don't achieve some life's goal, or know nothing about real world. It's a problem when you build your entire personality around a specific passion. In this case, i 100% agree with your video, i can confirm from a personal experience, but stopping gaming entirely is not necessary. Dropping time consuming/grinding games for quality time games is a start. I'm 30 now, i'm married, i have my own house, i mantain a social life, i work out, try to learn about world and manual works, and i still play videogames as my main hobbie, without giving up on other activities. I'm a gamer, and always will be, but is not the only thing i am

I don't think that games are the issue, really. There are other things in life you can get addicted to. I got addicted to reading romance books, so serious that I didn't eat or sleep. Stories, fantasies, and imaginations would complete myself and freedom if it weren't for the survival needs in this society. The society, which I don't really like because it's so centralised and demand us to fulfill human desires.

This is way too harsh a view on a hobby. This is coming from someone that literally wouldn't feel happy if I didn't play videogames each day as a kid. I can acknowledge there are in theory ways to spend my time better, but it was my only coping mechanism and way to make friends. You wouldn't tell somebody that has some other obscure skill that they've honed for years and made a community around that it was a complete waste of time. Sure, it's not necessarily productive, but it's a huge stress reliever and way to make friends. Watching sports or going to games is equally as useless knowledge that people spend massive amounts of time doing, but nobody is shit talking them for their passionate hobby. It is important to balance your life and have other hobbies and passions, but this is such a black and white view on this one hobby, that you could substitute any other non-physical hobby and people would be pissed if you said it was a waste of time.

Im the opposite of this guy i think everything else except my hobbies and gaming are a waste of time. I mean does this guy only want to care about studying and working just so he can get a job that pays a lot yet gives him no time to have fun i'd rather a normal job and play games in my spare time then try to become something like a doctor and have no time at all. People are made to believe that gaming is a waste of time when its really the things we have to do like working and studying to be a waste of time.

Just don't spend time on games which require you to BEAT YOUR OLD RECORD, BECOME LVL 100000000299292929292 PALADIN, RANK UP YOUR MMR or any other bs. Games are about fun gameplay loops, like factorio (lol digital crack narcotic here), or stardew valley or dishonored series or Psychonauts. It is pointless in real life to be lvl 80 paladin, but not pointless finishing a good game like a Psychonauts 2. You receive a good chunk of interesting story, unusual video style, and not a bad gameplay. All I can say. Once a game involves abnormal level of grind your title of the video comes to the head immediately and that means that the game design took a turn in the wrong direction.

If you see top channels on KZread you will see only gaming channel mostly, like markplier, mrbeast gaming, techno gamerz, dream etc etc endless where people waste their time and it's not some half a million views or a million views its multiple millions of views overall counts for these channels is in billions of views annually, you can't imagine how much people waste time on internet, first play it and then watch it like bozo, they are making millions while you are just stuck in rat race, unhappy, coping, unsatisfied in life, achieved nothing big in life, just living an average worthless life. Of course they gonna regret in their 30's for the amount of time they waste but the only blame should be you yourself. I currently have 2 yt fan page or channels which currently making me 5-6k$ on average and I just transform content and not even produce anything original but these gaming addicts can't even do that because they are addict and I know yt is Addictive which is also a reason I use yt mostly on Grey scale mode because I care about my business lol

"Gaming" is not just grinding some stupid rank system or numbing yourself with some addictive time consumer type of game... "Game" is a huge medium that includes role playing, system construction, world building, automation, artistic/aestetic perceptions, visual and experiential storytelling etc. YOUR play habit and gaming culture is what is toxic and a waste of time, not the whole medium. To this logic, watching a film is also a waste of time. If you consume the same popular and stupid works, films will surely turns into a waste of time for you. But in the mind of someone with taste, films becomes a great narrative medium. Games are the same way, and even more so. Games are not just a narrative medium, they are a limitless medium of experiance. If you haven't realised that in all these years of gaming, I don't even know what to tell you... Just stop badgering these same old boomer arguments. You wanna read books? Than read it, gaming is not a barrier for it, unless you have a toxic and bad relationship with it. I recommend anyone who thinks the same way as this video to read "Theory of Fun for Game Design" by Raph Koster.

Everything is a waste of time. I mean, what are you gonna do instead of playing video games? Read books? Watch series? Watch anime? Watch movies? Socialize with people? Isn't it all just "wasting time" i think life is all about wasting time, we just gotta do what we want, whatever that brings us joy. If you're not happy about gaming, then stop. If it doesn't make you happy, its a bad way to waste your time. 👻 Don't get me wrong, i have a job, i provide for my family, but with little time i have to myself, i like to do what i enjoy, be it scrolling bullshit shorts, watching youtube videos about conspiracy shit and stupid people saying stupid things, watch stupid mivies, watch anime, watch some stupid series, hanging out with my stupid friends because i'm stupid too, and yeah, i call it wasting time even though i enjoy doing them 🤣 i don't get why we are so obsessed about being productive, if you enjoy being productive, do that, its another thing to waste your time anyways. What's important is you enjoy this ride we call life 👻

the reason he says gaming is a waste of time because you don’t improve or get anything back. During that time you’re gaming you could be going to the gym and doing something that’s more productive, learning a new sport or skill. But yes, everything doesn’t have to be productive so i don’t rlly understand the video too because if your entire life is productive when will you have time for yourself? Time for fun, making memories you will never forget.
