Maruga (or Skanda depending on where you may be located) is also a great friend. He does not require adoration or subservience. He is willing to meet you as a peer - and in fact, I think he prefers that. Skanda is my Ishta Devata, so I do a puja to him everyday as my friend and confidant. I also try to have an afternoon tea with him once a week. The more you personalize your relationship with him, the better will be your attunement with him.
