That's the first thing I noticed - both the lady and Elon are at fault. Elon could have swerved his chair to look a bit more toward the man. The lady could have drawn her feet back considering those chairs were fixed.

"Its not about competing, its really just about trying to increase the probability that the future will be good that's all" - Elon Musk I have seen many of his talks, every time the interviewer tries to rattle him into revealing his true intentions and every time he calmly replies with nearly the same message. There is no trick here he truly wishes to create a better world. Its about time we stop trying to question this great man and start helping him out.

I remember at the time Steve Jobs was alive and there was an interview. Same to people , gentleman and this lady. Could be the same with Bill gates too not sure. Anyway the thing is she would make such an irrelevant and intrusive comments and questions that Steve would as k: What do you mean? His voice tone would sound like : What is wrong with you woman? The only reason I occasionally watch this program is because it brings interesting people in but for the reason of this woman I don't want to watch it.

+terrorista31 it's Apple. If you notice he talked about distribution of AI power and it being open. Google and him both share that ideology. Android is open for developers. Tesla's patents are open to competitors. The only company that is totally against his and Google's vision is Apple. They're trying to build a monopoly and shut out everybody else. Everything is controlled and operated by them. For God sakes you can't even use a Android device with a Apple TV. Apple is all about exclusivity and monopolizing everything they touch. Apple will literally be the end of us if they succeed in fully functional AI that is smarter than us. Also Apple already treats you like a mindless puppet. Look at a iPhone, now try to make it your own.

***** Just to clarify, Mark've never wanted to create 'free access to internet', but curated version of it. If you want to be displayed in it, you have to be allowed to in the first place. It spawned backlash in India as it appeared that three of their biggest telecomunication companies will get even more monopolistic power. This basically means that this internet will be free of charge but not free at all - censorship, advocacy, more power to the rich. You'll find more on 'uncurated' internet.

Don't think so. I am pretty certain he is talking about Facebook. He has been long time friends with Brin and Page, so one can safely assume they share common values on the matter. Otherwise he wouldn't be friends with them anymore while talking bad behind their back.

chelez No, you cannot assume that they have common values - but that's different topic. Google has the most advanced ML algorithms (don't trust me, check yourself). Moreover they are the only one of these companies working on autonomous robots capable of executing abstract concepts. As a final, he have said that several time it's google. Since they are friends, and that is's his personal concerns he's stopped saying out loud their name. Next time do your research: www.washingtonpost.com/news/innovations/wp/2015/05/13/elon-musks-nightmare-a-google-robot-army-annihilating-mankind/

It depends by how much we would provoke it. I just hope AI would be smart enough to know people are different and not wipe all humanity because of one group. There is something more terrifying that people can't really comprehend. We can't control something smarter than us... it's impossible. We can't just put a kill switch, because it would outsmart it sooner or later. We can't put a leash on a God.

One danger would be faulty programming. The other danger would be when a.i. is way beyond our level of intelligence. When a.i. gets to that level, we can't determine what it's motivations are especially if we make it so it changes and "corrects" it's own code.

I have a feeling he sees a huge threat in what google are doing. Their connections with the CFR are troubling. To sum up what he tried to say without offending he wants AI to be open to the public rather then controled by a single government or corporation acting on the governments behalf, that is why he is developing AI and then publishing the plans openly for the public as a counter

you have a point when it comes to drugs, but the analogy isn't very good. ai requires massive amounts of infrastructure and resources that only a couple of companies have right now, as far as i understand at least. for the time being one guy in a lab won't be able to create any sort of impactful ai.

  • @StefanMoellenhoff

    @StefanMoellenhoff

    8 жыл бұрын

The only way is to develop a strong AIs as quickly and publicly available as anyhow possible. As soon as an Artificial Intelligence is better than a human in developing stronger AIs, a self-accelerating process causing an AI explosion might start that leads to an AI that is billions of times more capable than any human or any other AI during that point. If this AI is set to goals that are benevolent for humanity, we have good chances. The sooner humanity reaches that point, the less the world and especially the whole manufacturing industry is connected, leaving us some space for mistakes. Right now for example it would be still rather hard for an Artificial Intelligence to build an army and send it into a war. In a couple of decades that will look radically different, and any mistake in developing a strong AI will be terminal. Experiments have shown that it is virtually impossible to contain an artificial superintelligence. On top of that the internet is built in a way that makes it impossible to shut down. So once an Artificial Intelligence escapes, there's no way back.

I like the part @3:58 and the smile on Elon Musk's face at @4:09. I think it is going to be a healthy competition with Apple for good, push each other in terms of innovation. Big mountain ahead for Apple to climb, they were in this kind of situations in the past (Mac, iPod & iPhone). Let's see this time they can reach the summit.

  • @danicoversongs

:D You not getting it does not mean: 1. That we worship him 2. That he is not original (have u seen all the videos, he quoted some ideas not from him right? And of course he is aware of this) 3. That you are right. Elon Musk is admired, and not worshipped, because he is-- he does not need to become what you want him to become before he is admired. If you are into ideas, suffering, success, hard-work, dreams and/or aspirations, do read about his life, his works, and his ideas not only for himself, for his company but also about his family, friends, and humanity in general. You will learn something surely.

He is not afraid of Google with his car, especially because he knows very good Larry Page.. He is afraid of Apple for sure, that's the biggest threat with the secret development car projects. Facebook could be possible, they are getting more powerful everyday but not using this kind of technology at least for the moment.

Reckon it's Facebook personally. Musk is good friends with Larry Page. Google have done good things with Google Maps etc. Facebook are a creepy organisation who steal videos to generate traffic and harvest data to influence users' political opinions. Plus Zuckerberg and Musk do not get along, as the AI debate demonstrated.

Most people are too convinced of our divine right to rule over all of creation to take cautious AI speculation/planning seriously. Its serious stuff. Humans are in fact fallible, and anything we code is most certainly fallible. The only really ideal possibility for AI would be for it to come into existence after we've gotten both global society ([sarcasm on]oh... that oh so terrible new world order where everybody sees eye to eye and live in peace[sarcasm off]), security and the environment in order. Right now many of the gangs that lead little pockets of land would definitely attempt to abuse AI for their own agenda.

You bring up an excellent and crucially important issue, I am in consensus. To clarify the point I attempted to make as to "who's tech" it is: At 0:54 Musk's raised eyebrow humorously indicates it's not Microsoft. At 2:55 he indicates it's the company with the "Amazing" people, which is Google (search KZread for "Google DeepMind" to see more). At 3:55 He says "the people controlling the computer" which by forced control could end up being those you mentioned. At 4:18 he stresses "there is only one" and again, Google's AI could be taken over by forces you mentioned. He also makes it clear it's not another tech company "making a car" (I'm sure as Musk has invested in the Google tech that he is under a nondisclosure agreement, also found in search results). At 6:20 he again says it's only one and goes on to clarify "those who control it" alluding to the situation where it would be taken over in the "who controls" scenario.
