Elon Musk | Full interview | Code Conference 2016
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk talks with Recode's Kara Swisher and The Verge's Walt Mossberg about his plans to send a one-way rocket to Mars in 2018. He estimates colonists could start arriving on the Red Planet by 2025. Musk also talks about the proliferation of electric vehicle initiatives that compete with his other company, Tesla, and why autonomous cars will become the norm. He says he doesn't see Google as a competitor, but that "Apple will be more direct." Plus: Why Musk wants more people to have access to the power of artificial intelligence.

He always speaks in such a disjointed staccato and it probably reasons out on many factors I'd think. It's likely he contemplates these issues in 4 dimensions, and discusses them similarly when in comfortable company. I bet he bounces into and over subjects wildly, and those who are familiar and can follow this Tigger like processing see a much more comfortable speaker. He will never be able to speak his thought processes in cogent and cohesive fashion--he's thinking about multiple tangents (bounce), constantly introducing, testing (bounce) and revising the ideas as he goes. And he may visualize these, and have to convert (bounce) those images into words to convey the ideas where he has already eliminated a thread of the idea (bounce) he was pursuing and beginning to explain (bounce). The woman isn't as bad as a lot of people seem to think, she's more Pigglet acting as a traffic cop trying to keep it more main stream--KISS-- keep it short and sweet or (simple for stupid). But she misses the point (bounce) of a mind that works like his. If you step back and (bounce) just wait after baiting the hook, you'll see his mind weave through the obvious (bounce) (bounce) and start to associate unrelated concepts (bounce), non linear processes (bounce), and an intuitive debate (bounce) take shape within. And (bounce) he does not explain in generalities, (bounce) and is aware that he often confuses (bounce) and looses an audience when he answers the question asked, (bounce) then answers the unasked questions he believes important or necessary (bounce) to the question already answered. Either that or Cocaine is a very important food group in his diet -- (bounce) -- IMO

Agreed.... I've felt this before with them. How about the closing moments, Elon isn't even off the stage and she's yelling to the audience about the following show... loud enough to make him stop moving as he's exiting and stand there awkwardly waiting for her to finish. You don't need to be a genius to know what he's thinking at that moment in time.
"It wasnt me like shaggy"-ElonMusk LMFAO
Even though this interview was years ago, it really showcases the mindset of *the old traditional ways vs the new innovative ways.*
So many Stans in these comments LOL. Elmo's lawyers are now claiming this entire video is a deep fake.
i wanted to dislike this interview because of the female interviewer but Elon still finds a way to exude knowledge i have to like it.. I keep saying Elon is the most under appreciated genius of our time
How dare she invade his personal space with her foot like that. It is utterly disgusting.

kudos for giving him the time to explain stuff like orbit etc., these are the kind of interviews I want
Despite the negative comments, this is better than anything on TV. The only thing better would be to make this even longer. I loved how they allowed Elon to relax and fully answer the (few) audience questions.
i can listen to him talk for hours
Wow, didnt know that about the ISS moving so fast. Fascinating. I would love him to talk about technical stuff all day, Ive watched too many interviews about general stuff and his story. Btw, the interviewer was too cringy.
Interviewers doing a poor job here. Musk is basically the IRL Tony Stark. He's a genius and those guys don't seem to care one bit about the actual science behind the projects. Shame really.

Mr. Elon Musk, nice eloquent gentleman, is amazingly smart at such a young age and has an outstanding memory! Thank you kindly to those who were involved in producing this educational and happy video!♥! (Personal goal: to live and die on Mars)
6:47 when she cuts him off with "so it has to land elsewhere." She obviously had no idea what he was talking about based on what Elon was saying prior.
I gain more respect for Mr. Musk's goals, principals and foresight every day. That said, I find that these two interviewers missed a great opportunity talking to such an accomplished man with their rude and dismissive tone. Kara Swisher's invasion of Elons space is shameful.
Is there a policy against allowing the guest to complete a thought?

Elon Musk is adorable. He has a childlike light in his eyes when he talks about his exciting innovations. You can see the child in him. He said he loves kids! I feel him on that. I have had seven, myself, and would keep having more if this world were more ideal. I am hoping my little ones grow to work on Elon's endeavors and contribute to the entrepreneurialism that will happen in the city on Mars. My eldest son is going into neurology and my eldest daughter is an airman apprentice for the US Navy. I think she will learn some skills to contribute to this Mars frontier. I am so super excited. Elon's ideas and he and his teams are the future. Much love and immense respect! I am praying everyday that these missions become closer to fruition every moment. The faster, the better.
You can actually see Elon trying to translate all his crazy terms and calculations into a simple term for everyone to understand. Simply brilliant.
