0:18, when he takes out that iconic "Arthur Morgan" hat, and has that determined look on his face, I literally felt that the end is near. It was actually his last ride home, and it is extremely heart-breaking the way it all ends for him after everything. One of the best parts in the game.

Same here, buddy. I'm now 36, and have such a strong, deeply emotional attachment to the game, and Arthur's journey. My Dad and I bonded over the music of the game. So much so, I requested a UK radio station to play the 'House Building Song' when he underwent a cancer op and subsequent treatment a couple of years back. My Grandad passed away just after Christmas, and again, the music of this game makes me think of him, his foibles and his fight against dementia. I'll forever cherish this wonderful game.

I'm 41, married, have a 6yo son and just played this game for the first time, finished that scene a few hours ago. I balled like a child. All I want is for my kid to have a future in this spiraling world. Morgan did that for Jack. Arthur worked hard and was used and betrayed by the only father figure he had. Yet he still selflessly sacrificed himself for his people. I don't know why this has me feeling so bad.... it's "just a game" right?

They are but unfortunately the majority dont finish a game. Its later now but I remember reading an article on the topic of finishing a story game and they used this game as an example considering the length of it. It was around april when it was made so basically 6 months after red dead 2 came out and it was revealed that only 30% of red dead 2 owners had actually completed the story. I personally will always prefer story games, but it does make me sad to see that. Also because from my group of friends I was the only one at the time that finished the story while everyone else was just messing around in the map.

People say the dishonorable ending makes more sense but it really doesn't. I got proof of this because the TB can kill you but can be cured if you take your life nice and easy but Arthur said he couldn't, he saved John and was attacked by Micah, even with his TB weakening his body over the course of Chapter 5-6, he fought Micah pretty good even with his body being severely weakened by the disease. The fight between the two made the TB stronger and progressed way faster and it killed Arthur. Micah was the cause of why the TB killed him way faster than sooner. So that can be John's redemption for Arthur.

RIP Timmy, my longest living horse(also the horse I'm talking about, I got him at the beginning of the game, but then stabled him for Chester) RIP Chester, the 2rd horse I got, he also died before Timmy, he got killed during a gun fight with the lemoyne raiders I have Tamitha now, she's Timmy's mate, she is with John, I had her as Arthur but lost her, than found another female horse that looked like her, so I tamed her and pretended it was Timetha to keep my cannon timeline continuing

A lot of people are sad that Arthur Morgan doesn't get the happy ending we desperately may have wanted for him. He doesn't ride off into the sunset, he doesn't get the girl, he doesn't get to grow old and die telling his grandchildren stories about the Old West. You're probably experiencing a sort of emptiness that comes following the death of a friend. I get that, but I also want to point out the deeper message of Arthur's last ride. Because I honestly believe this is what makes RDR2's story such a great one. Hear me out. Depressing stories involving loss, redemption arcs and heroic sacrifices are at the core of Western storytelling for a reason. All of the best European and American tales throughout history incorporate these elements to some degree because they're universally relateable. It's an inherently masculine thing to fantasize about having a meaningful death; especially if it's to protect the ones you love. A cause worth dying for. Both Red Dead Redemption 1 and 2 amplify this feeling by putting you in the shoes of the man who does that. You are John Marston; you are Arthur Morgan. You've resigned yourself to fate; you've made peace with your inevitable demise because you're now fighting for something greater than the self. Arthur's last ride isn't sad because he's going to die, rather it's beautiful because he's truly at peace. He's become the man he was meant to be. Even with everything he ever cared for falling apart at the seams around him, he no longer fears death - because his death will be in service to doing the right thing. And that's enough for him. The mood you're in right now is the consequence of taking part in an interactive epic tale. You see Arthur both as his own character and as an extension of yourself. That experience is why we enjoy these types of stories in games. Being a badass gunslinger, dropping scumbags with your trusty six-shooter and riding off into the sunset is cool, but it's elevated to another level entirely when you're given a reason to care. Rockstar have truly outdone themselves on this one. They've created a modern masterpiece of storytelling.
