I totally agree! Why are these stupid and insulting things like the death of people that’s not dead or like this stupid title “ look he is not gone sing again” - a fact that we all are put to old age and death but why do you think this should be told in a fashion as if this was news or he got what he deserves, kind of - this is below any good standard journalism and you’re the one to be ashamed. Fact my ass assuming

Watching The Graduate right now. Such a great and special movie that would never have had the same impact it did without all those Simon & Garfunkel songs. I'm now 55 but I remember first seeing The Graduate, one evening at around age 5 or 6. I didn't understand the story then but the unforgettable ending scene with Dustin Hoffman desperately yelling & crying, "Elaine!" over & over to do anything he could to stop the wedding and The Sound of Silence, Scarborough Fair & Mrs. Robinson were a few of the "visions that were planted in my brain" that evening and they "still remain"... 50 years later. My mom was a huge influence on me, musically, because she was so into all the best music, including the Simon & Garfunkel stuff featured in the film. She said, "You liked those songs, huh?... The ones in the movie"? I told her I really liked them. Then she got out her box of 45s and handed me 4 Simon & Garfunkel 45s so I could play them whenever I wanted to hear the songs again. I still have those plus an unbelievable lifetime collection of more music than anyone could ever possibly listen to in a life's time. Thanks, Mom!!!... for everything 🤗

Both Art and Paul have been my idols for as long long as I can remember, there poetry has always been an inspiration both spiritually and practically, I have had the pleasure on two occasions to see them live, occasions that stay in my memory. As inevitable as iterated in their song, “time passes on” these amazing humans will leave us only with their music, it remains that like all great passages of history, we are left to enjoy their genius, for they may both stop singing live but the poetry of life will always be heard. We should thank God that they have given us so much to consider and so much joy in their music and lyrics.🙏

I am a big fan of both of them, have seen them in concert more than once and saw Art G. several times. I would not see them if they were to perform together - which will never happen - it would never be the same. They had their time in the spotlight as a duo ; it’s over. Paul continues to write and create and evolve which is wonderful.

It is nice to know that Simon And Garfunkel are still in perfectly good health, as I loved nearly all their joint work, although Paul Simon has now lost his voice a bit. It is a blessing that they are both still with us, as we have now hit a time when most of the greats from the fifties and sixties are now dead. There are not so many of them still with us. Long live the remainder.

I had the true pleasure of meeting Art and having a nice conversation with him in about 1992. He was kind and I have a picture with him that is very special to me. I've seen S&G in concert twice and seen both Art and Paul solo. Their music together and separate is very special to me. It is quite sad to me that unless something significant happens, they will pass away without being reconciled. I know relationships can be complicated, but that is incredibly unfortunate.

I'm sure, that totally broke Art's heart to not be able to sing & do what he loves and made a lifetime of. Getting old sucks so bad because it just fucks with everything and it will, wear you down, sooner or later... no matter what you do or have done so please try and always remember to take good care of yourselves while you can and hopefully it will pay off and benefit you positively in old age. Two (or 3) of the most important things you could ever do for yourself: 1. If you smoke, QUIT! 2. If you don't - Don't Start! 3. Be responsible for your body and life by leaving seriously dangerous and life-threatening drugs alone. If you absolutely must do something to alter your brain and feel 'buzzed', smoke a little weed or responsibly have a few drinks here and there. Constant, sloppy use of any of the other shit will get you sooner or later & if it doesn't kill you, it'll wreck your body and health so fast you won't ever realize what it's done to you until it's too late. Some people just never stop long enough to take the time to notice what's happened and is happening to themselves. Don't let that ever happen!

Paul Simon had a great career after they broke up, and I'm sure he did financially better than Art Garfunkel. But I'm certain that Garfunkel did well enough to want for nothing in life. I liked both of them, and was thrilled to watch their reunion tour on TV in 1981. (500,000 may have shown up at the park, but how many showed up on TV?) I can't call a favorite between them. I love both of them, and I am happy they were able use their voices to lift other people's spirits, and both have lived great lives.

Prior to 1977's 'What a Wonderful World', with James Taylor and Simon, Paul Simon wrote 'My Little Town' in 1975 with Garfunkel in mind. Both had My Little Town on their 1975 albums. Simon wanted Garfunkel to have a more gritty song to sing to contrast the angelic songs he'd been singing in the early 70's.

I Graduated HS in 1970…Their music together was magical as I was Growing Up. I had all their albums…Bridge Over Troubled Waters Album should have been their swan song anyway…like the Beatles Abbey Road. When the members of the Group want a divorce, there’s little that can be done. I had no idea Art Lost his voice…so grateful he worked hard to regain it. Let them be…we’re ALL older now…do what brings you joy…tomorrow is promised to no one…I’m glad I grew up when I did. Paul Simon, like Paul McCartney is a Musical Genius! There are Songs that Paul and Art did together that will endure long after they…and we…are gone. Isn’t that the TRUE BRILLIANCE of these two gems we had the pleasure to hear AT THE PINNACLE of their careers??? That is plenty more than enough for me…❤

I think another reason they broke up was Art was focusing more on his acting career which lessened the amount of time working in the studio with Paul and he was not keeping Paul in the loop with how long he was going to be away from the studio. Plus if they don’t get along, at their age why put themselves through that stress especially if they don’t need the money.

It’s very presumptuous of Simon to say that people don’t want to see a reunion show. There are those of us who crave for the pair to sing again. What he has to understand is that no matter how he or Art feels, the show must go on. Trust me, I’ve done shows where I was not happy with a band mate, yet I did the show anyway, because the people wanted the show. It would be a great moment to have one last performance by these two.

Musicians are not the property of their fans. If you've already committed to a particular gig then of course you should do it if you're able, even if you have issues with a bandmate, but there's a huge difference between honouring existing obligations and planning new ones. As much as I would love to hear a final Simon & Garfunkel reunion, especially if it involved at least one new song, they owe us nothing. Paul Simon has retired from touring, and although he still writes and records, sadly he is suffering from hearing loss which severely impairs his ability to perform live, so even if they resolved their differences unfortunately even one more reunion performance would remain unlikely. Both of them are 81 years old and in their long and brilliant careers have given more than we could reasonably ask.

  • @XanBos

    @XanBos

@@SunbatherInTheSnow You are correct. Musicians are not the property of the fans. But first and foremost, the fans dictate whether you as a musician have any business even putting on a show if no one is going to pay to see you. And as a musician that in the business to make money, it makes sense that if the fans are willing to shell out money to see you one more time, then it would behoove you make that happen. I as a musician listen to what my fans say, and work my future shows accordingly. In the end, a professional musician will cater to the fans when good money is part of the package. As with any job, when you are at work, leave your private life at home. and when you are at home, leave your work at work. That goes for any profession, not just musicians. So what I'm saying is, that Simon and Garfunkel for whatever reasons they may have to keep from doing a show, should pack those differences aside, and do one more show for the fans, collect the money, and go home. At the end of the day everyone wins. The musicians get paid, the fans get the music and experience they yearned for. Life is too short to quibble over why, just do what is required of the job that the musician signed up for. Fans are why the musician even has a job. So yes, they many not own the musician, but fans do pay their salary by going to shows, and buying the music. plain and simple.

@@darrellsmith3602 I think Paul has a great and very underrated voice, and even has the better solo discography of the two (albeit largely due to his songwriting talents). That said, when they were together, something magical happened, and I don't know if any other band in history has been so much more than the sum of their parts. Interestingly, when they were going to record Bridge Over Troubled Water, both singers thought the other should sing lead. It's probably for the best that Paul Simon won that argument.

That being said He sang for about a hour and the Fans loved him. Numerous standing ovations. It all in all was a memorable experience. However yeah however he did something foolish I believe he talked shit about Paul Simon and made it clear they had issues. I couldn't help but think it was a huge mistake as beratings others usually is. At the time Paul was on a world tour and drawing huge crowds. That tainted the experience

Kudos for this video about Mr. Garfunkel! Having worked with Art as a tour producer during his recovery, and as someone who has lectured about the duo for a number of years, i wanted to (humbly) correct a fact that is slightly inaccurate in this piece, and also add a point. Their duet on 'What a Wonderful World' was not the only 'reunion' of the two in 1975. They also released a single that year called "My Little Town" which reached #9 in Billboard, performed it on the second episode of 'Saturday Night (Live)', and appeared in a very humorous segment on the Grammy Awards telecast, which can be found on KZread. The dup also DID tour in 1983, a result of the Central Park show, though the intended album was, indeed, canceled, as you mention. Keep up the good work!

What a complicated relationship those two have. First Paul Simon signed a record deal that excluded Art, without telling him, when they were very young. And Art said that was a betrayal that he never forgot. But years later, Paul Simon fixated on his belief that because Art went to Mexico to have a very small part make a movie that kept him on the set for months, instead of a few weeks, Art was determined to become a movie star and reject music. But Art said he never thought about being a movie star and wished that he'd asked to be released from being on set when it became clear that it was taking too long. So they both experienced a feeling of betrayal by the other, and neither can let it go, despite years of expert, passionate, successful and very beautiful collaborations. They probably know each other better than most people in the world (except their immediate families), and yet, they can't forgive each other for the slights, insults and real or perceived betrayals. But so many duos who are very close suffer from overexposure to each other, like the Everly Brothers, the Righteous Brothers, the Andrews Sisters... Maybe it's the inevitable result of how intense it is to tour the world for years with someone, performing the same material over and over. The stress builds up and they can't wait to be free of each other.

They deserve peace and happiness. If they wanted to, and could , mend their friendship, that would be even better than their becoming duet performers again. To have known, and been so close, since childhood, and then lose that, does something to your soul, like part of you is missing. People don’t usually wake up to that, until one is gone, and they are left lost, with never a chance for that union again. I love their music and wish them both peace, together, or apart.
