I deed it was! Ppl have asked me about selling my stuff, but all the tax amd government stuff involved scares me. I don't think the average person realizes all the stuff involved and given that each state and town has their own regs etc makes it hard to find the info in an easy to understand format. I've not watched your content before (just subbed) but given your love of law tube, maybe having one of them on going over the details could be helpful... Ian Corzine is part of that community (he's worked with Roberto Blake as well, if you aren't familiarwith him) and does a lot of social media lawyering so he might be a good fit...

@@battygirlrachel Roberto Blake is actually a friend of mine and super helpful for creator economy + business topics. He has TONS of awesome content on his channel and answers questions during live streams. I've talked a little bit with Ian and he is a very nice gentleman, although he has sort of pivoted his content in another direction. Ian does have some older, but still relevant content on his channel "Your Social Media Lawyer." I'll be honest though... business content on my channels historically hasn't garnered much interest from the sewing community and I do have to be mindful of what the audience will actually watch. Occasionally, I will cover Etsy-related topics but don't really plan to do a lot with business content as there are plenty of others who focus on that.

@@SewingReport I can certainly understand that! YT (not necessarily the company, but the platform in general, viewers and algorithms included) tend to make it hard to include tangential content... sorry if I came off as expecting you to create that content (I don't know if I did, but just in case 🙃😆). I just mentioned it since it was covered a little here.

My pleasure! Thanks for being a guest on the podcast 😀
Thanks Lindsay for another interesting discussion. Enjoyed Part one on Jen's also. Hope prep for France 🇫🇷 trip going well.
Oiling my Singer Heavy Duty always concerns me. I'll have to do more research on that. Want to keep it going strong! Thanks for the great chat!!!
Thank you for this very interesting interview. I learned alot about KZread. I learned a lot about the craft industry. Things are changing so much in this Post Pandemic time. I hope that confidence can be restored enough so that people will want to pursue their interests again. Have a nice week, Lindsay.

Me too!
Very interesting information. Our Joann's closed permanently about a month ago. I remember when it was still Cleveland Fabrics and they only sold fabric related products. I enjoyed the podcast and am looking forward to hearing the other one with both of you. Thanks so much.

It’s so interesting how our preferences are so different. I will only use a machine with a drop-in bobbin! 😂 I have two Brother machines and I love them. They’re intuitive and easy to use and have really held up well.

I like the comment that if you like your life you don’t need a vacation to escape it. It was interesting hearing the ups and downs of running your own channel.

Thank you! It's unfortunate that so many people are in jobs they hate and they live for weekends and vacations. My last job had decent pay, generous PTO + benefits, but those factors only made it tolerable for so long until I reached a breaking point.

@@sewingreportlive I feel ya. I'm glad you found an escape route that works to your advantage. I just subbed even though I hate sewing. LOL
Hi ladies! Im new to The Sewing Report, but I’ve watched you Lindsay, for years. I started learning to sew on a treadle Singer when I was five. My Grandmother had to push the treadle for me. I graduated to a fifties model that I inherited from my mom. About 25 years ago I got my very own “Bernina” on the recommended by my Mother-in-Law. I hated it!🤭 Finally researched like crazy and bought my own Singer HD6380, and I love it! We have even patched sailboat sails with it. It seems like people may stray, but they usually go back to their first love.😘 It also seems like the Singer and Brother Machines are the most popular with everyday people. I almost went with Brother because of their connection to cricuts and such. But in the end, Singer won out, and I’ve never regretted it. That said, I would probably recommend Brother for younger folk, especially with young children, because of the paper crafting connection. Me, I’ve done that and I’m ready to settle down, to easier sewing, painting and mixed-media art🥰(no more oils please!)🙏🖖🤭

Oh! sounds like her content is right up my ally! I think ppl like the non expert how tos cause someone who isn't an expert is more likely to go into details an expert would think too basic. At least that's been my experience.

Good point!
Wonderful video! I have given up on Hobby Lobby as almost everything in the fine art department is their crappy Master's Touch brand. I've often thought that JoAnn's should lean into sewing more, like sell machines and offer in person classes. That would grow their fabric sales at the same time. These days, a lot of moms don't have the time or skills to teach their children to sew. So glad to hear Taylor Swift is sewing!

Love my Singer HD. Very heavy duty
I don't have a full-time job, I would like to sell my crafting projects, if I knew who would buy it. Only thing, I can't duplicate the same project I made 5 yrs ago.

You can make some stuff and try selling on Facebook to see if there is interest and then open an etsy shop if you want later.
Lindsay, have you concidered having MayMay Helms on of MayMay made it? She does a lot of in-person stuff so she could give some insights into some of the stuff Jen was interested in exploring... Another recommendation is Stacey Park from Scrapbooking Made Simple... she just hit a million subs. Not seen anyone else in the paper craft community (content that is almost exclusively paper craft) hit that. She has a line of dies with Sizzix, microfine glitter with Couture Creations, and ink with Jaquard, all started this year. That is in addition to having run a mom and pop independent retail craft shop for over a decade and having store branded products. I've really been enjoying these podcasts. Its been a great lead to some excellent new follows!

Great suggestion! I know May May, she is a sweetie!
1:16:58 now I know I like this girl... I watch law tube too 😂 mostly Friday night frenzy with law and lumber and nate the lawyer. They are all fun to watch cause they pop into each other's live streams and stuff. They do more than just law too... several of them have done charity streams etc. and do dungeons and dragons type games and stuff together. It's a really good group of ppl. She's not wrong about the virtual hangouts... gamers do it too. And it isn't just on YT. A lot of ppl do it on twitch too. Rumble is another platform artists could take advantage of with live streaming... they give creators a bigger percentage of their version of super chats and last year gave 100% of them for several months. There are programs like stream yard that allows you to stream to multiple platforms as well so you can build a following across multiple platforms with the same live stream and everyone can watch together regardless of their perfered platform.

@@sewingreportlive I wish there were more hrs in the day so I could watch them all...
1:29:46 re the in person stuff... Jen might check out some of what MayMay Made It has done... she does a lot of in-person stuff and includes local businesses in it and stuff, including the local sewing boutique. She might get some ideas from MayMay. Also, if you can do a task reasonably well, ppl are more attracted to personality than the amount of skill I think.... ppl will pay to see you cause they already know you and have a general idea of what your offering. If Jen has a large following and willing to travel, maybe doing meet ups at various places would work... could reach out to the local sewing stores and have them take part and maybe do some paid classes too. Meet ups are starting to be a thing even outside of offering classes and stuff... some of the creators in law tube have done them just to hang out with their fans and stuff.

Wow! I wonder if my local one does. It's rarely busy.
Doesn’t Pfaff own Singer or they are made by the same manufacturer / factories? Aren’t many of the machine companies merged?
FYI Jen: The lawyers read all the court documents and interpret the “law lingo” for their audience in real time. It’s not just hanging out.
