Funny enough, the new 1/18th scales from ARRMA now use clipless. But it makes sense for the scale. Personally I dont mind the body clips at all on my ARRMA 10th and 8th scale bashers

I much prefer the thing to stay attached for the whole session, and the compatibility with after market bodies that the clips allow, at least without stuffing around with a subframe and adapters to match, etc, yeah. For crawlers and smaller bashers - and really for the X-Maxx too, I guess - I like the clipless system. Really all we want is thoughtful design that doesn't make things harder than it has to be ☺️

Thanks, yeah, I'd go so far as to say it's considerably better on 4S. That 'air authority' I mention in many videos is just a bit lacking on 3S, whereas on 4S it does exactly what you want, as soon as you tell it. Steering and vibration aside, this thing is a gem right out of the box :)

Thanks, I tried to break it without being silly and yep, it stood up to it! Servo is failing now but that was a poor component choice in the first place. It's a super solid machine and I really like it.

I have 1/8 scale 75KG steering servo in waiting, but for now, the stock one is just fine. Thank you for literally beating the brakes off of yours lol. I just got mine today, and i know it's going to be my best purchase this year.

Great series. I have the Mojave 4S coming next week. The SLT3 is OK. I agree at this price point the DX3 should have came with this rig. I'm interested to see if I get that vibration as well. I will let you know after my first bash. This rig is as tough as nails. I have been waiting for a new platform from Arrma. They finally produced something brand new, and it looks like a winner. Fascinating comment you had about the racing. I find the precision racing with RC to be pretty boring. We race 1/10 4x4 and we spray the dirt. And it’s some of the most fun I’ve ever had. Everyone loves it. I found out they don’t really have 4x4 race classes and I was startled. 4x4 racing.. like with this Mojave, in a bit of a wild style is definitely where it’s at for me personally. Could you imagine 4 Mojave’s going at it on your track?! Incredible fun

Love the crawling content but also loving the sct content. I know you try not to watch other reviews but I’ve seen complaints about the holes I. The tub where the body mount getting filled with dirt making it hard to take the body off. So they seem to be drilling them larger to work around it Keep up the great reviews Hopefully they end up putting some of the Mojave enhancements on the senton

That's a good idea, though it probably is an issue around sand, which I don't have here. I'm sure you'd only need to go slightly bigger to fix it. I love the mounting system overall, it really protects the body. Super durable.

I have had one of these trucks for a while now, and out of my 41 models, this is in my top 3. I agree that the steering is weak, and I’ve bought a Reefs Raw 500 for it, and I’m working on finding a very strong servo saver to go in with it. Mine doesn’t have nearly as much tire wobble as yours, that is very strange. But as always, outstanding review, and keep up the great content. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite KZread channels.

Thank you for the encouragement, I get a boost from comments like this! It's not surprising this vehicle is one of your favourites. It's one of mine, too. Wobbly wheels is not a deal breaker and improving the steering costs 10 or 15% again of the car's purchase price, but for a basher designed for hard driving, this also is acceptable. On one hand it isn't ideal. But on the other hand, what a tank you get, out of the box! The steering slop is acceptable for a basher, too. The xmaxx ensures crazy hits because it can flex, and this is why I'll not try to remove the slop from this system. I think with a strong servo, and maybe a stronger servo saver (which I have yet to look into), this will be an easy favourite runner for many. Cheers 🍻

Hm, I dunno. If I had a 6s already, the 4s wouldn't really draw me. And having a 4s, the 6s is no longer on my list. I think I'd prefer the variety of a different big arrma like the new big rock or an outcast or something. Nice to have the choice though eh.

Very interesting and informative video as always. I'm currently contemplating a purchase like this and have this Arrma and Losi (Baja Rey/Hammer Rey) on my shortlist. I like the fact that Arrma has improved the scale realism on this body. It is much better with an open cockpit and simulated interior than awful decals on the windows. I know you don't usually purchase these for that reason but I like to enjoy my RC vehicles for their realism in off-road conditions rather than bashing them. The larger scale trucks are a little too big to handle nicely in remote locations so this is about as large and heavy as I want to go.

@@RCTNT In UK, the Mojave is priced at 449 GBP, the Baja Rey at 499 and the Hammer Rey at 579. This means that even with a 4S battery and charger, it still costs less to get on the road than the 3S Losi products.

Would love to see a video on the Mojave 6s too! Mojave is next on my list to get. But $630 is a lot hahaha might have to take a look at the 4s instead considering it does work on 3s batteries. I love how tough my Armma cars are.

Definitely maybe. I've been considering that car for a while now. I wonder if they'll be updating it anytime soon... The new 4s blx range is spot on for size, performance and durability, though. And arrma is also developing the EXB line, so perhaps we'll see an updated answer to the Maxx Slash 8S. For now, I'm waiting to see.

I was thinking of swapping to a gyro-enabled receiver but this car is super stable so I may not. Certainly, fixing the steering and balancing the wheels is a must-do at this point. After that, honestly, I'm pretty happy!

@@RCTNT I have all my bashers I on the same TQI tx, it has a camera mount on it, I have the blue tooth adapter in it to set the end points as well, saves carrying all the other transmitters, I dont always use the gyro function but have it if I need it.

Greetings from Texas. On the wheels, get some balancing clay, and a ~$35 hand held balancer, for 17mm hex. This will save wear and tear on bearings and suspension.

Another great analysis! I love your work. Forgive me if it’s been mentioned or you figured it out already but….. I found on my Mojave 4S the death vibration seems to be only under full extension/droop and is the driveshafts/u-joints maxed out in their travel and causing that violent vibration and wobbly effect. I’m also a big fan of this truck! Its one of my favorite in my collection for sure!

Ya I was freaked out by it too, still am a bit but I figured I’d trust Arrma and run it! The first day I had it I noticed and had to have a friend compress the suspension under throttle on the bench and voila!… no vibration. It was only on full extension. I’m not willing to limit the droop because it’s one of my favorite characteristics of the truck. The enormous amount of travel!! Anxious to hear what you find on yours. 👌 Thanks for what you bring to the RC content world. I really like your style.

This floats over your track and terrain. The short course / desert trucks look so cool when they're running with dirt rooster tails flying out the back. I know I've mentioned them in the past but the AGF servos are good servos in their BEC powered or direct power offerings. They're not Amazon blue-case cheap but they have some really nice offerings between the blue case and Holmes prices. When the fleet grows, having a durable but still affordable option is nice. Also I agree with you those bearings are not long for this world as long as the wheels are vibrating that badly. You're sure nothing came loose in the knuckles or suspension? The wheels were wriggling around a lot

Thanks Andy, I'm looking into agfrc servos now, though I quite like the jx servos I get from Asiatees, they're very good too. Nothing loose on the arms, suspension, etc. I checked closely before what I showed on camera as I didn't want to misrepresent the vehicle. Shaky thing, this. Tough though!

@@RCTNT Cool yeah I have a couple of the jx mini servos for dig duty. I know Crawler Canyon has a few of the Flash hobby direct power jobbies in his fleet. I think the 60kg one lives around $60 US... can't recall if it's a 3S only or will do 4S. Compared to the 90s and early 2000s, we have SO many really good options for electronics now :)

From what I understand, AGF actually manufactures servos for the major brands. They’re a servo specialist company, and their servos are extremely high quality. I have one in my Kraton 8s V2, and it’s an incredible servo.

Another banger of a truck from Arrma. Great advice on the direct power servo once you start going direct power you never go back all of my trucks that I care about get one and NSDRC is my favorite brand, but I have a love-hate with them. They have a great warranty, but I’ve had to use it a lot. Do you think this truck would benefit from thicker gear and shock oil I switched out everything before I ran my laser nut and it handles beautifully now.

It wouldn't hurt to go a little thicker on the center diff, but I already thought about this while driving and instead simply restrained my throttle input a shade whilst at the lower end. That paid dividends and I think it's tuned brilliantly for bashing as is. You're gonna love it.

I'm not a expert and now you had your first impression I'm sure you will be able to catch other videos of this rig. Other than what you have experienced it seems like a solid rig, however it certainly is a Arrma slop rig, as you saw, my senton was not that bad at the end of the season when I ran only it, yeah for the price I love that short course, also I heard that yes indeed the servo will need replaced, um tends to over heat , also your not the first to mention the out of balance tires though you are only the second to talk about it, but at least toy ears all videos of this truck sound the same, good on you for saying something about it, I know it is as simple as taping the inner rims to balance them out but here in the states this truck is 500$ . Mabey I'm to poor or have to high expectations but after dropping that much cash for 1 rig from any brand, I at least want to get a few runs on it before the wheels need balanced. But overall a fairly solid rig from what I have seen, just shoe goo and tape the body don't say I didn't warn ya, great video as always very through

Thanks, we had a go at balancing during a recent live stream and the body has now been protected. I run em stock first so we can get an idea of how they damage with use 😉

I still think the Senton and both 4s and 6s Mojave trucks are the most stable SCT/Stadium trucks out there. As cool as the solid axle trucks look, they roll much too easily for bashing. I had to balance all of my Mojave wheels, both factory and replacements which gave me great improvement and piece of mind. As I mentioned not too long ago, I'd love to see a 1/5th scale Mojave, I'd be the first in line for that 8S monster! Completely off topic, can I inquire about your shoes? They look to be very comfortable and a good blend of tennis shoe and low cut boot. Thanks for the tremendous content!

Arrma should have kept the mojave the same size as the Senton. I have the mojave 6s and always reach for my senton . The mojave is big ,heavy, and needs a lot of room to utilize all that power.

hi, i think need punk at 5, for the bash seems good only change the save servo for good aluminium servo or install a real savr servo and have a servo meaby 30 kg ! meaby at the beginning it's good to have a save servo very soft but not for a good steering, i've got the Hobao 8sc , a very good truck, but not a basher ! i will receiv my mojave next week.i think central gimbal make noise too...need some upgrade to be perfect ! ;)

It's very good, yes. But I wouldn't want Punch at 5, I prefer it at maximum. This way it's my finger that controls it and the ESC isn't retarding my inputs. Personal preference. The servo saver needs to go. I'm going to put a stronger 7.4v servo in first, but if it needs it, I'll go to a direct power 4s brushless unit. Then, just have to balance the wheels a bit and we'll be there. It's a solid and fun machine, I really like it.

That looks in my book to be a fun car. Handles like a boat, but predictable handling. So it drives scale somewhat like the real thing... Personally dont like all the plastics, but it seems to work just fine (minus the steering)...

Well it's still Melbourne, so there's cold and hot currently. It'll make up its mind eventually. Kinda like me and shorts, I haven't really committed to doing them yet!

16:24 This is the center driveshaft, all these new Mojave do that. This is really unfortunate because this truck is very quiet which is mechanically very pleasing and satisfying but that issue ruining everything… Also this truck needs spring adjustment, they’re too soft. If you increase the preload the behavior is transfigured, the truck is planted and eat big jump landings ! Instead of bouncing and rolling… Plus this truck is rock solid. Nothing comparable with his competitors, it’s a real tough basher. I’m trying to stop myself to buy one but I’m thinking about it everyday !! I’m in love with the blue one…… To me the price is very good. But this transmitter/receiver are way too cheap for this beast. If I buy one I’m gonna change it. I’m VERY interested by the new SPEKTRUM DX6C and its AVC programmable feature… I’m very surprised btw that nobody talks about this ! Can be VERY interesting on trucks to avoid bad rolling I think ! Without sacrificing too much performances by a fine tuning… I’m very curious to test that 19:50 Oh I forgot that ! Big weak point is the direction getting blocked VERY easily by small stones, VERY annoying… There’s something to work on this, should be not too difficult to solve I think

You've identified a few issues to be sure, though I'm not convinced a gyro is really needed, with its centre diff. But yeah it's definitely one of the more durable options currently available! Thanks for all the detail!

Considered in isolation it looks like a fantastic truck. But placed in a portfolio between the senton and 1/7 mojave it becomes a lesser proposition. Not to say that bigger is always better, but the 6S mojave feels like a lot more truck for the marginal increase in price, and the senton significantly more "manageable", if that is a consideration. The 4S looks like it still wants a fair bit of room to stretch its legs. I get why people might not want to invest in the house brick battery infrastructure required for the larger trucks (although true Disciples of Horizon are paying 6S prices for 4S batteries anyway!). SCT is by far my favourite form factor but horizon hasnt managed to extract over half a week's wages from me for this release... yet. As usual I acknowlege i dont hold a representative viewpoint given it is completely sold out here lol. "Am I so out of touch? No - it's the children who are wrong"

Hahaha well put. I wondered about this too, and I'll address it in my 8-way round up video, after all the individual videos are done. I can tell you right now though, that I think the 4s may just be perfect between the less refined senton 3s blx and the larger and older mojave 6s. I don't have a 6s yet but after running the 4s some more, I think this thing might just be the one to get.

Did you use the spacers for the suspension? Comes with two thin and two thicker where did you put them? Thin front and thick rear?

I didn't, but if I was going to, it'd be based on how the truck was behaving with my style of driving and terrain. Your suggestion sounds reasonable for general driving. Or, doing lots of nose-heavy landings? You might put em both in front. Generally want more rebound and you accelerate in a straight line and it's squatting too much? Try thin in the back, then thick, then both, until it's better. Experiment, basically 😎

@thepatternforms859 definitely have a play with preload spacers, then. Nothing stopping you going further with it, too. You can also fiddle with shock oil if the damping is too weak for your driving style, etc. Happy tinkering!

Shame about the wheels and steering, and that you have to get after market options to fix them. But Arrma tuff 😁 I have the Amazon 35kg servo, no saver, in my Mojave EXB, no probs so far, works great. The steering on that thing is awesome, no slop at all (just a smidge). I have Method belted wheels and tires❤ Another great day at the office 😊

Haha yes indeed! I'll replace this servo with a better unit. The stock one is now failing after just another two packs through it (though not as hard driving as on camera here). I'll balance these wheels a bit too and then I think we'll be good! I like the truck.

I'll apply some weight on the inside of the rims as needed, probably with an epoxy or solvent that attaches it securely. Dunno exactly yet, but I'll work it out!

The first thing I am doing with mine when it arrives is drilling out the body post holes a size bigger so I don't have to deal with the body getting stuck. I heard the servo they use burns out really fast also so I was thinking about programing the esc to only use 6volts and see if I can make it last longer 🙂 I wonder why the steering has so much slop though? I might need to see if I can address that as well if it becomes a issue. Thanks for the review!

The servo voltage drop isn't a bad idea. I haven't had the body posts sticking at all, but I imagine sand in particular would contribute to such an issue. Drilling them out by 0.5 to 1mm would probably do the job without compromising the snug fit, I'd think. That's a great idea.

It's actually fine until the servo starts to fade, but I also think the servo saver on the horn is too weak. Steering slop is acceptable in a basher but the steering power should really be there to turn those wheels when you want them to. It's too weak. So, replacing the servo and removing the servo saver is probably the way to go. I'll follow up when I've made my changes. It's still a brilliant rig overall.

Take the wheels off and see how stable the drive train is without them

Thanks Aaron, have done that, with spacers to fill the wheel position so everything would be tight. It's very smooth. I put the wheels on a balancer I made and yeah, two of them were quite bad. But I've decided I don't care 🙂

The servo is 7.2 and the ESC is pushing the servo 7.4, it’s gradually destroying the servo with over volt. Replace with a higher voltage servo.

I mean, I covered this in the video. It isn't clear that it's a 7.2v servo, from Spektrum's website, which lists 7.2v AND 7.4v on the same page for the servo. We can definitely agree it really wants a strong servo and that servo saver in the bin tho!

you need to adjust the toe on that senton. will track better with a little toe compared to erratic toe out. dont know why most new rc`s seem to come that way

It does, but it's on each wheel. The drive shaft is smooth. I'll balance the wheels and we'll see where things stand in the follow up video :)

Not just Arrma, either. RTRs in general have weak servos.

They probably have a soft servo saver to prevent warranty claims....

Maybe, but the servo is now nearly dead after 4 battery packs. It's an odd choice.

Yeah no idea, I haven't watched anything on it yet. Busy! I'm fixing the truck up currently and making a few little tweaks. Will cover in a subsequent video. It's super solid overall, anyway!

Never understood why people always chop EC5 for XCT90. EC5 literally has a higher current capacity. Most power hungry ESC's come stock with EC5 seems like a bad idea to change out? Not to mention XT90 is only rated for 100A continuous and that ESC is rated to 120A continuous so it seems ill-advised EC5 also uses a fire-proof plastic where XT90 is only fire-resistant But I am really curious as I only use EC5, what us your reasoning for extra effort for an inferior connector?

It was simply practicality. At the time, I needed to film and that's what I had. The value of changing it so I could use it was greater than awaiting new plugs to create adapters. With over 100 of both lipos and vehicles, I'm largely invested in xt30, 60 and 90. This goes back to 2011 or so. But now, especially with running a channel like this, simplicity is my friend. Horizon is invested in ic5 and that's a good choice, for all the reasons you mentioned. But I'm in Australia and the popular connectors for cars and ESCs coming from China are XT60 and Deans/T (ew). That said, I'm now no longer chopping ic5 connectors. I finally got a bunch of ic5 connectors and have made adapters for various others. It is the superior connector and I now have 6 or 8 batteries with ec5 plugs, too, so the change is creeping in to my inventory!

That should be okay, but battery life will be poor and the car won't have the punch of lipo. It'll be hard on the cells and they will get properly hot. You'll also need to disable lipo low voltage cut off on the esc. After that, yes, it should work. But just because you can doesn't mean you should - lipo is almost mandatory with this power system.

So sorry, I missed your reply here. NiMH doesn't put out a lot of current and it won't last as long nor give you the same punch or even top speed as a LiPO. However, if you can get a pair of 8.4v 3000mAh or bigger packs, it'd at least work. I think your performance and battery life would be a bit lacking, but it would run, yes.

The whole RTR meta is becoming ridiculous. 1000$ cars, sold with throw-away transmitters. Why won't they let us build cars and choose our equipment ?

Kits don't sell anywhere near as well as RTR vehicles. It's a financial decision and seemingly an easy one. I've had some success with selling the brand new radio and power systems from new RTR vehicles and making a decent return, for whatever that's worth. Part of my 8-truck round-uo will include 2 kit builds; the Hobao 10SC and the Tekno SCT410 2.0, so hopefully that'll be useful!

@@RCTNT I agree - and I don't. IMO kits don't sell well because nobody's offering them. Sure, it's juicy for the companies because why would you sell a 200$ kit if you can sell a 300$ RTR ?

I take your point, but the market dictates company direction in a broad sense. If kits sold better, you'd see more kits - no business would leave money on the table in such a broadly consistent manner. Consider that they still need something of a kit for all models anyway - people have to assemble the models and they need instructions for that. All RTRs are still a kit at some level. Then there's the cost of labour, training, tools and assembly. Indeed, I suspect the profit for kits may be higher than for RTR models in many cases. But if they don't sell, the margin becomes irrelevant. Speaking with Axial's old_rich in the comments of my scx10 pro video (I think it was that one), he said kits just don't sell as well as RTR, so that's why they focus on the latter. I'd love to see more kits, just like you, but it seems we are in the minority.
