    I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one with a hatred for Traxxas. They make quality cars but they nearly killed the kit building RC with all their RTR stuff. Just like you I would much prefer to build the car. Not only does it give you a sense of accomplished but it makes it a lot easier to know how to repair it. Building is more than half the fun!!! Arrma makes good stuff and I'm glad you see they offer kits and with it only taking a hour is great for people with no patience lol

    Their business practices and constantly recycling kits in new colors and not making much new has turned me off of them and the last straw was when they pulled the plug on a ton of small business websites for using their name in the product listing out of nowhere caused me to swear off featuring any of their new products in my videos, the vintage ones are an exception. I love building the kits way more than anything else! I had to get the kit version of this to see what it was all about. It says right on the box assembly in about an hour. grated that would be with the proper tools, that supplied ones will get the job done but a little slower than that. Either way it was a fun kit to build and it satisficed my build need and would also be easy for a newcomer to do. I think these are going to be a huge seller this holiday season!

    That was my concern as it is very similar in looks but far from it otherwise! Once Jeremey reviewed it out of the box and then a quick drive I was pretty interested and then I saw the RC Saylors beat on theirs I was fairly convinced I would get one. When we got to the shop they had just gotten them in and they had the kit as that it the only one I was interested in.

I blew out the Axial Gravedigger one I the first 10-15 minutes too when I got that! I am thinking the track is cursed for monster trucks! It's a great looking truck and appears to be a lot of fun. I have watched a few videos of these and they are all positive and the servo save breaking is the first one I have seen. I watched one other KZreadr and his disappointment with the charger is exactly the same as yours. I am picturing a kid opening his Christmas morning present and waiting forever for the battery to charge. That would be a downer. I think hobby shops should be warning parents. They often sell cheaper chargers. I have ordered one. I did a quick check and it appears the servo saver is on back order or pre-order. It's odd Arrma makes a similar servo saver in red, but it's 25T. Shouldn't this one be cheaper since you have to assemble it? That's what many manufacturers do. I think this will be a ver popular truck.

  • @AddamsPlayground

    It is a really cool truck and the servo saver thing is a fluke. I think I have bad luck with them in general. The same thing happened to my Axial Gravedigger when I got it. I think the parts are on their way but some of the parts have not gotten here yet. I ordered the fan unit (out of curiosity mainly) and a few servo savers. It is a unique style for this truck but I sure a regular servo (25t) and a large or XL Kimbrough servo saver in there and it would work fine. I am just gonna wait to see how long it takes the replacement to get here. The battery charger is nice to have to complete the kit but it is painfully slow. It reminds me of the old school brick chargers that took hours and hours to charge. I do think a $30 general quick charger is a great addition to this. The cheaper version is the blue version that is just the prebuilt truck. Since this one comes with the battery and charger it is still the regular RTR price. It kind of makes sense a little bit as there is a lot of work to package it the way they did to make it very beginner friendly to build. Not messy part of the build and no snipping parts or confusing steps in there so I think it is a justified price to do all that to make it a nicer build for a newcomer. They did a great job and this will be a big hit I think!

    Great video. But I don’t understand why everyone wants to hate on Traxxas so much. In the late 90’s I got into nitro. Bought a Traxxas Nitro Sport. In the coming years afterwards I purchased many nitro vehicles of different brands like Team Losi & Team Associated, HPI, along with more Traxxas products. Traxxas was the one brand that was always the most reliable, most durable, known and carried by every hobby shop I ever entered, and their replacement parts compared to some others was dirt cheap. That matters to a blue collar guy like me without a lot of expendable income back then. I loved the other brands too. But I found I always had the best luck with Traxxas. Just my opinion. So please don’t hate on me too for still liking them after all these years 😂 I have a Gorgon too btw, my first ever Arrma purchase. I used to love them and I have had quite a few over the years. They have become a bit too greedy and some of the business practices are a bit bullyish and aggressive. I had become disinterested in them to a degree when they just began recycling the same kits over and over again and not coming out with new stuff so I had drifted away from them. Most of the really new stuff was all the big basher trucks and speed run cars that was no longer into. The last straw was when they shut down a bunch of smaller business websites earlier this year out of the blue and without notice. That to me is some shady business tactics and I refuse to feature their products in my videos. I may buys something from them in the future, I am not ruling it out but if it is not a vintage kit you won't see it running or talked about on my channel. i am not giving them free advertising to support their products. No worries on sharing your opinion, we all have one! You did it in the right way and presented your side and your thoughts without being rude or mean, that is perfectly fine and I enjoy the conversations. Too many folks are quick to rant and attack each other on the interwebs so thanks for being civil! LOL! The Gorgon is a great kit and I am ready to get back out with mine as soon as the parts arrive. I just don't feel like messing about with it to put something else in there to make it work for now. I have a couple of the servo savers on order so hopefully the get them in and get them shipped soon. The 3s BLX series of the granite, senton, typhon and vorteks are all super cool and tough as nails kits at decent prices. the 550 line is good but the 3s line is really fun! take care and have fun with the Gorgon!

    The charger is lipo compatible but is only rated for 2s. Personally I would say to spend the extra $30-40 and get a dedicated charger for the batteries as this one is painfully slow. It is great to have with the new truck but I would not want to rely on it to charge the batteries all the time, it is slow! It seems plenty stout and should do well in the colder weather. Obviously too cold and all of them risk snapping plastic bits! I think it is a great all around truck, great for new and old RC folks!

    Did you have any issue with your build? I just finished mine and the gears grind when under any kind of little pressure. Even just turning the gears by hand without the motor out it sounds like the gears clicking as if they are not meshing properly however there is no adjustment. All you have to do is drop the rear gear and driveshafts in so IDK what the deal is but pretty upset about it.

  • @AddamsPlayground

    @AddamsPlayground

    Yeah the diff gear just dropsy right in the and the spurs and counter gear should slide right into place. They only manual adjustment is mounting the motor to get the correct gear mesh there.... The only thing I can think of it if the pinion is on the motor shaft too far and the teeth are not meshing properly.

  • @AddamsPlayground

    @AddamsPlayground

    It is a about the same foot print, maybe slightly narrower but not but much if any. It is a good bit shorter but I think that helps the performance out a lot. I know I had to install the front sway bars on my Axials to keep the front end from rolling over so much. It is not a direct competitor of those being only 2wd so it is more inline with something like the Stampede which this drives better than the Stampede right out of the box. I am sure the modular J Concepts Monster truck wheels will work on here. You can build some of those in various backspacing to fit almost anything running a 12mm hex.

    Not really, it is a totally different chassis but the driveshafts and the shocks are the same from the Granite. They kind of took design and parts from various kits and made this one. The servo saver thing is just one of those things that is going to happen from time to time with trucks with the big balloon tires on them. I have seen quite and few video with there are tossed and tumbled around a lot and no issues at all. I broke my Axial Gravedigger servo saver in about the same amount of time when I got that. I could swap in an after market one like a Kimbrough and probably never worry about it again but then I may have to make new tie rods for it and all that. I am just waiting for the replacement to show up and see how it goes with the replacement. It may last another 15 minutes of the next 5 years. The Granite 550 mega I have is tough, it have trounced it around a lot and I have broken a driveshaft but that has been it so far. The 4x2 option is a good one but eventually you will swap in the 4wd conversion kit into I am sure. I don't know too many folks that left it 2wd! I think the Granite may be a tougher one overall but I have had limited time with the Gorgon.

    PROS : -Price is cheaper than 4wd or brushless trucks ( BUT... its brushed and 2wd ) -NICE LOOKING truck , to me it has the appeal of a "modern Lunchbox" -Modern invisible body clips -Nice looking big tires that shouldnt wear too fast , no foam ( helps the suspension ), hole in the tire to get water out -Oil filled shocks -Ball bearings -Sturdy plastic chassis and flexible parts -Good compromise ( for a leisure 2wd ) motor position / low cg battery placement / balanced chassis for jumps -Radio seems decent with ESSENTIAL STEERING END ADJUSTEMENT ( that s why Traxxas TQ radio is just crap that kill the cheap rtr servos , adjustable power ( but does it lowers braking at the same time ?? i hope it doesnt ... NOTHING ABOUT THAT IN ALL REVIEWS . -Arrma standard 3S final transmission parts ( inner dif gears , cvd plastic driveshafts ) BUT... see later -SLIPPER that should help to protect transmission BUT... see later -"KIT" to build version BUT... see later CONS : -Plastic gears , same design as first version of Hpi JUMPSHOT brushed , that has proven to be a real issue one this car, and wear quickly , even on brushed motor and 2S. Arrma plastic can be better , but its still plastic , not steel. -Charger is total crap , non reliable , super slow ( more than 3h in 2023 !? for the poor included nimh ) = direct in the bin . Just read comments on S120 charger ... -Battery nimh is crap as well , non standard size ( hardly usable with other car ) , low power , heavy weight ... a Lipo doesnt cost much more but would have been so much better. -HEAVY truck ( 2.7 kg ! for a 1/10 2wd is very heavy ) -Poor esc , 25A only for such a heavy truck , shouldnt last long. 40A should have been minimum. 2 in 1 esc are crap , need to change everything ( esc + radio ) if you want to get brushless + NO RECEIVER BOX , you have to pay for it as an option -Poor servo , plastic gears , low specs , combined with fragile servo saver as what ive seen in some reviews -Body is nice but not lexan : its crappy PVC . ( becomes white under hits and breaks much more easily ) -Important replacement parts are VERY expensive . 50 bucks the diff with plastic gear housing ! , 40 bucks the slipper , more than 50 bucks for the unpainted body shell ! / 70 bucks painted with colored plastics set , for cheap PVC body ! , 40 bucks for 2 wheels ! .... Waouh , its cheap to buy but as expensive if not more as a high quality 1/8 car for replacement parts . -Suspension is too soft . You have to change the stock 100cst oil and find harder springs , if you dont want to hit the tarmac on each landing -Heavy weight + powerfull brushed motor = low autonomy . Just a little more than 10min , in 2023 , that s short. ( you run 1h with a stock Tamiya on a 5000 2S lipo ) - What about dust in the encapsulated gears inside the chassis ? i am curious ... of course NOBODY SPEAKS about that in the reviews ... - Encapsulated motor = you need a fan ( same problem on Tamiya DT02 ) , and even with a fan , with no aluminium motor plate, it gets hot. -Plastic chassis plate motor fixed = not reliable motor screwing , hard to keep a good mesh pinion / spur = spur gear quick wear . -Slipper plastic end nut , screwing hard the spring on the aluminium slipper red shaft , seems to be very fragile conception to me. -"Kit" version has most parts already assembled , so not a true kit , more of a "semi assembled kit" , and comes at the same price , with the crappy nimh and charger !? STUPID -Color is related to the version. "Kit" its black only , "Almost rtr" without nimh and charger its blue... I think many "non beginners" could be interested in the truck , and would have liked a true Kit version , with unpainted body and of course no nimh , no charger ... and even no electronic, at a little lower price. Conclusion: OK , its nice and "cheap" , seems to be a fun 2wd driving truck OK it works well in all the reviews , even bashing hard , FEW PACKS RUNNING , just enough to sell you the product ... But what about 10 packs or more ?? Sure it wont last and cost you €€€ to remplace all the crappy stuf ( battery , charger , quickly broken PVC body shell , transmission gears , extra fan ... at the minimum , and even more if you go brushless : motor , esc + radio ) Of course , for 150 bucks RTR , it cant be a premium competition car , we know. Performance is not the problem , but it has to be RELIABLE without costing you €€€ to play with it the first year... and not only 30 min on KZread reviews There are trusted alternatives that cost about the same and sound better : Hpi Jumpshot V2 , latest version with steel gearing and slipper cover ( just get the extra metal diff housing gear of the flux version that costs only 8 bucks , and you get FULL METAL TRANSMISSION ) Its a much better performing 2wd truck , about the same 12T 550 motor , full ball bearings , oil filled shocks as well , nice TVP ALUMINIUM chassis ( much LIGHTER car ), STEEL dogbones and outdrives , STANDARD 12mm wheel hex ( not specific 14mm on the Arrma , so you have yo get their 12mm optional part to get other cheaper wheels ), stronger METAL gears servo , no crappy nimh and charger , bullet proof transmission with METAL motor plate ... much better SEPARATE 60amp ESC ( hobbywing 1060 ), receiver box , TRUE LEXAN BODY .... and cheaper replacement parts ... so ? Gorgon sounds less like a bargain now . Traxxas brushed 2wd Stampede / Rustler / Slash are not perfect and more expensive, but after the new BL2S releases , they should be sold at discount prices and could be a good alternative with proven quality. 😉

    I agree with a lot of it but it is designed more of a beginner kit so things like metal gears and lipos are not needed running it as it is. The lipos are not the best to get for a beginner that may not know anything about them and may not have parents or friends that know much about them so a nimh pack is safer to sell in a beginner kit. You have to remember that the US is notoriously famous for people suing over a Christmas present that explodes due to misuse. They are rather safe for normal RC enthusiasts but if left fully charged al the time and then then left fully discharged by a kid that doesn't know any better can lead to issues! For the parts replacement, I mean all replacement or hopup parts add up, some more than others. I just looked at the metal diffs for my granite and it is going to cost me $100 to upgrade my 550 mega to brushless just to upgrade the diffs. I don't have to but it is the cost to play in the hobby. It has always been a very expensive hobby and that won't change. We do have it good now these days and have such an amount of choices and styles to go after and get into. This is a good starter platform and even more expensive kits have weaknesses and flaws in them. The Axial Ryft breaks if you looks at it cross, the Losi LMT broke axles like it was its job when it was released, the Tamiya TD4 was a train wreck when it was released and the list goes on. There are faults and drawbacks with all of them but at least they are making an attempt to bring a reasonably tough truck to market for a good price to entice new comers and folks on a stricter budget to be able to get something fun. The overall durability, like you said is TBD but for what it is I think they did a good job. Thanks for the very detailed run down of everything. You have some very valid points and concerns. Hopefully it will help someone make their decision of if it is worth it or not!

    And more... what the H... are those two colored spots in the side graphic? From the video they appears as... mmm.... how can I say.... emmm... it's embarrassing, for sure we don't have it but we want it, generally it becomes with a couple of we can call them "bumpers" I mean they have it, that thing, and we run behind it like a pack of dogs on a fox hunt.... never mind perhaps today I have something in my eyes... Ciao Again

    The colored spots are the snake eyes since the Gorgon is basically the mythological Medusa they incorporated the eyes and the fangs of the snake into the name on the side. Not as easy to tell in the video!

    First. Hello from New Zealand. I agree with you not wanting to support Traxxas. Traxxas is like the Harley Davidson dealerships of the RC world, just a complete rip off , money grab.

    Their business practices leave something to be desired and I am tired of them recycling the same lot of kits over and over in different colors to make them "new". I ever since their last move of shutting a ton of small business websites down for selling parts with their name associated with them earlier this year I am done featuring any of their kits on the show(excluding the vintage ones). They don't have the hobby in mind and are just in it for the profits, at least that is my feeling of them.

    It would be fun to have a pair of them ripping around together! Set up a little course and just let them rip. I was very surprised with the power and speed from it and it is not over geared so it runs a a reasonable temp. It will definitely put a smile on your face! I am glad you enjoyed the review!

    @@user-wp9mz LOL, I had a couple of those as a kid! My very first one was a firetruck with a wire remote and then a Indy car with a wired remote. I think the firetruck went faster than the Indy car!!! I also had a bunch of them that only turned when you backed up so it always took a 4,5 or 6 point turn to turn around in the right direction!! LOL!

    Hello Aadam I’ve read on the Arrma granite older version their using sometimes the TRAXXAS stampede servo saver If that helps you ✊🏿😎💯 Wasn’t even a hard hit you took there🥲😩

    Thanks for the tip. Since the links are fixed length on this one I was hesitant in putting an aftermarket or other servo saver on there as I was afraid of getting wonky toe in/out issues. I have gotten the Arrma ones, just took a few weeks for them to get them in stock. I think it was just a fluke thing. I have seen them take a ton of punishment and not fail. I think I was lucky enough to catch it just the right angle to explode it or it was defective to start with. Hard to tell once it exploded!! 😂 It is all back together and the test run was fine. I need to get it back out for some more running as it is a lot of fun!!
