I was probably about 10 when this came out. Deep song. Meaningful. The beat and tempo take me back to a different time. When I listen now to "Tennessee" I am able to understand it through adult ears...This group were really talented.

Funny to think that at this time Hip-Hop was defined by violence, women and excess yet had more conscious acts such as De La Soul, Poor Righteous Teachers, A Tribe Called Quest, Styles of Beyond, Slum Village etc. than it has nowadays. Dunno if I'm getting old, nostalgic or both!

Later down the road in high school I heard he passed away and that totally devastated me I went to his funeral and will always remember you Mr. Wall! Greatest teacher ever! Whoa! I haven't heard this song in 30+ years and had no idea what lyrics were (just remember the wall of sound). It's still kooky, but now I have respect for its message (and can hear how this band would become an influence for bands of today (e.g. Outkast perhaps?)). 🙂

This was the one and only rap group that got to play Woodstock 25 yr reunion in ‘94! Awesome safe free festival for most. No violence, like the treacherous ‘99 follow up

I saw Arrested Development at a concert at Penn State main… it was an outdoor show… Mr Wendell held up two lamps during this song. It’s funny how different times and things impact you.

“Go head Mr. Wendal. Mr. Wendaaaal, yeeaah” and “For Mr. Wendal’s a bum” was on repeat in my head for no reason. So, I had to come listen to this LOL. Haven’t heard this song in at least a decade…at LEAST a decade. Never paid attention to how powerful the lyrics are. Brotha Speech was a dope lyricist, I’m gonna have to do some research to see why he didn’t continue rapping **Edit: Apparently, Speech has been extremely active in music on the emceeing and production side and has released several solo projects including some critically acclaimed work. Salute 🫡
