What you asked if it was a rocket launcher, was a minigun. A minigun is a 36-pound, six-barrel, electrically powered machinegun capable of discharging up to 6,000 rounds per minute. This one is actually modified for use in movies to be hand carried., lower rate of fire shorter barrels, and cable feed from off camera. Arnold also used it in Terminator 2.

The actors who played Blaine and Poncho were actual NAM vets. The both suffered flashbacks during the making of this film. Arnold suffered severe dehydration and almost had to be hospitalized. Dutch and Anna were supposed to have a love scene but Arnold refused to do it because it wouldn't have made sense. You probably know that Arnold was Governor of California but did you know that Jessie Venture (Blaine) was the Governor of Minnesota? Not seeing the thing that is hunting the characters is not just an "old movie thing"... It's called a GOOD movie thing! Building up tension and having a great payoff is 1,000% better than just seeing the thing from the beginning IMO. It takes a skilled director, good writing, and an approach to filmmaking that is often disregarded because of test screenings and trying to appeal to a wider audience, which makes me sad. Predators, called the Yautja, naturally seen in infrared. This allows them to see heat very well in general so in the hot climate of the jungle his natural vision made it difficult to distinguish between Dutch and the ambient heat of the environment. This is why predators use their biomasks, the mask helps to filter out the ambient heat of the climate and colors it blue, making the prey stand out more and further enhancing the predators vision.

Watching from the villain's perspective is a great way of keeping suspense instead of just plastering it out there what they're dealing with. This way we kinda discover at the same rate as the protagonist. Young people really need to learn some patience. And this might be coming from a 41 year old, but I understood this at 10 / 11 years of age. When I was first allowed to see this movie.

Keep in mind that there wasn't much CGI in 1987. What you refer to as graphics and CG were all done optically or through hand-drawn animation at this time. With the exception of a couple experimental movies, CGI didn't start becoming a regular thing until the 90s.

It was a bit more than just a couple of experimental movies, between 1973's Westworld and 1989's The Abyss you could fill an entire page of A4 paper with movies that featured CGI, it just wasn't commonplace until the likes of Terminator 2 and Jurassic Park showed studios what computers could really do. In the same year as Predator came out so did the movie *batteries not included and that movie relied on a lot of CGI to seamlessly superimpose the robot models into their environment.

I was thinking the same thing. Even well into the 90s many fx were practical, models, etc. Such as Independence Day and Dante's Peak. My favorite part was the Predator laughing while Arnie is running through the jungle. LOL!

Another Arnold film that I just rewatched for the first time since the early 2000s that I find very underrated and very enjoyable is "End of Days". The critics were not kind to it when it came out but I think it's very good.

That’s a great movie I just watched that one for the first time very recently. It was directed by Peter Hyams who directed Time Cop (1994), Sudden Death (1995), and The Relic (1997) which are great underrated movies. Peter Hyams is the most underrated movie director.

No one should rule out the predator if someone is the farter! 🤣😂

The second Predator is definitely different, and since you know what they are it's a bit less anxiety inducing, but it's super intense as well!

Predators have the greatest motive of all, tradition and culture. Hunting is not only what they do, but its what they are.

The only lore you need to know to continue was told in this movie. They come when it’s exceptionally hot. They hunt capable, armed people. They hunt for sport and trophies. And they’re the coolest aliens on film. 😉

I wonder why that quote was so ....quotable "get to the chopper!" I don't get it, is it his accent, the scene. I don't know but this is one hell of a movie.

Best way I can describe this movie is an alien invades a military movie, and turns it into a slasher film.
