Multiple species of ants are able to successfully beat wasp colonies through sheer numbers. Most of the time they're smaller, but when multiple ants hold down and dissect a wasp there's not a lot that wasp can do to defend itself.

  • @4dojo

Most likely there was no battle. Sometimes wasps recognize a hopeless situation and simply abandon their nests to restart elsewhere. They will leave their larva behind and the ants eat the larva.

Ants are no joke. They are literally like those swarm monsters you see in game. A few on their own? No problem! But when they band together they can fuck everything up. I truly believe if we lived in another universe where ants absolutely hated humans and banded together to fight us, they would win because of the sheer amount of them.

In Guatemala we found this leaf cutter ant mound that was size of (with a personal estimate) an average garage. Mostly under ground, I discovered it when I found the huge stream of ants, and fallowed it to a bigger one, we spent the day, plus others tracking this huge highway system, fallowing the path of the ones holding leaves and stuff. The door way to this mage city was the size of a kiwi or small orange, and the main “highway” was roughly 4 inches wide. The main highway had smaller ones branching of to various trees, and you could see so much work put into them. The jungle floor is all dried leaves and stuff, then you see a dirt trail extending city blocks, where they’ve cleared the path and the sides of the “roads” are all chopped up leaves. It was an incredible find.

Normal ants form colonies and stay in one place. "Army ants" are a whole family of ants that are extremely regimented and nomadic - like Genghis Khan, they go on campaign and like 100,000 ants suddenly show up somewhere all in a mood to kill. They are much more serious business than even fire ants.

To everyone wondering why they didn't just walk on the ceiling, it's so that they can steal the wasps' brood and take it back to their nest for food. Walking upside down isn't easy with a heavy load, so building the bridge allows them to easily cart off the babies of their fallen enemies so they can then feed the wasp babies to their own babies.

Still hard to believe, may be its true, but someone must explain me how they did that step by step withought a string or any help, i mean if they start the bridge on one side (witch go down because of gravity), they never can go back up in another direction. Or they built the bridge on both side and they wait for wind to swing both bridge until they can bond it. It could be, but very very iunlikly considering the distance. may be i don't see the way, but until someone explain me how they did that, i find it very unbelievable.

A person normally will witness anywhere from 1/1000 to as much as 1/8 the population of an ant colony. The only time you'll ever see most of the population is when the entire colony is in danger. The eggs are moved FIRST and then the queen gets surrounded by ants as a "force field" and is carried to the new location. And the location is fortified first, then the eggs, then the queen gets moved. Unless you have a glass ant colony at home you will never see the full population of an ant colony.

So one day me and my friends went into the riverside one day after a serious flood and saw a red mass floating beside the banks. One of my friends decided to poke it with a stick to tow it ashore. The last thing we expected was an entire colony of fire ants floating downstream.
