Enormous Fire Ant Colony Casted With Molten Aluminum (Anthill Art) #9
The largest Fire Ant colony I’ve ever casted(66lbs)
This casting is 29” inches long 21” inches wide 21” inches tall
Red imported fire ants are a invasive species that kill other beneficial ant species and is considered a notorious pest. Performed on property where pesticides are used regardless.

Fire ants are particularly industrious in their nesting practices. Lots of cool little facts considering what a frankly awful species they are. For one, they purposely keep several hundred workers right at the top of the mound on standby, under a very loose, delicate layer of sandy soil. Slightest disturbance and a huge mob is on scene in seconds, that's how they can swarm so fast. Next interesting thing is the sheer numbers. I read somewhere that a fully mature nest can house almost half a million ants. Finally, they go DEEP. Like deep deep. Like some nests can be several feet deep. For as horribly as I and these _things_ get along, I do truly respect the way they go about things. All except for how destructive they are. They're incredibly destructive to wildlife, particularly ground nesting species of animals and birds.

@@FloridaFoxAnthillArt Well, let's be real, here. On the one hand, ants are amazing creatures on many levels. BUT, these are RIFAs we're talking about here which are an invasive and highly destructive species. I love ants, truly do, but these little fuckers are just different. First time I got hit by them I was truly shocked by how rapidly they swarmed my feet, and once I had a chance to think about it many many many hours after the insane burning of so many stings started to wear off, I thought, "These things wanted to eat me alive." After that sank in, I didn't care so much about their little lives. I don't go out of my way to wipe them from the Earth, but I can't in good conscience lobby to protect them from harm either. If I can't get bent about killing mosquitos or yellowjackets, then I sure can't get too upset about dead RIFAs. Just think about all the ground nesting bird chicks they've eaten and that should put anyone's mind a little more at ease.
