I was depressed for several days when I found out I had nothing to do with my salvation. But thank the Lord I didn't. What a mess I would have made of it if I had. God steers us along the path he wants us to walk to fulfill his plan or purpose in the scheme of things here in this world. Glory be to God..

95 percent of my family are Pentecostal the pastor is my cousin so to get them to understand is really difficult they spend all their time raising millions to spread the gospel but no one knows were the money go's nobody's paid no bibles bought no missionary sent their worst then most cult groups and they do it because their works are the results of their faith, and because the church targets the poor there trapped until they get worn out that they abandon the faith they thought they once had, to try picking up the pieces is difficult because there afraid of failing again. sadddd

Tim Gilbert the reality is that we are as helpless as the criminal on the cross to do anything to earn our salvation. As someone who was raised Roman Catholic, the thought that I can contribute nothing to my salvation was offensive to me. It WAS offensive to me, but in hindsight, it’s a load off to know that I’m justified by faith. Has it changed the way I live? I’m a work in progress, but by the grace of God, and the leading from the Holy Spirit, I’m not the way I used to be. I would love to get a hold of the younger me and tell him a few things, because I was ignorant and self-centered.

@@patriot4780 the reason for feeling helpless, is when we first heard the gospel, the Holy Spirit convicted us of our guilt. The answer to the forgiveness is believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (Romans 3:24-26; John 3:16-18, Romans 10:9-17). The tension that comes from Calvinism is dispersed from the confused theology from the likes of John Macarthur, Steven Lawson, and Voddie Baucham's teachings. 1Corinthians 14:33 "For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints." Here in this passage, Paul explains the arguments of who should be teaching, like women. Today we argue over what is true: Calvinism. Reformed theology. Think about that... "Reformed." Did the words of the Bible need reforming? No. We do. Thus came Jesus Christ. It's a 33 year old story written in the four synoptic Gospels. Calvin's dogma came from way beyond the writers of the Bible. His institutes for Christian Living bear no accurate citations from the Bible. Historical accounts say he was a dispotical lawyer who demanded obedience to his "decrees, or face jail time or worse, like being burned at the stake.

No it is not! Why does any one listen to Calvin, he was a despicable person murdered at least 41 people. NO WHERE IN THE BIBLE do you find the statement We are predestined to Salvation - not there. Romans 1 also says "They KNEW God but did not honor him as God, so God gave them over to their ungodly desires." Then Paul says when they die and go to Hell "They have no excuse!" If God chooses who will be saved - They would have an excuse. So we have disproved Irresistable grace and God decides who goes to heaven all in one. And through in the fact there is also free will, "Although they knew the truth they decided - THEY DECIDED - not to follow. But wordhipped the creation and not the Creator!! Original Sin - Total agreement - but only because Romans 5-6-7 teach it!!! In fact Calvin's point of view can be disproven not just in Romans 1 - but also in John 3:16 and verse 18 as well. Why, If someone does not beleive Jesus says they are condemned already - so even Jesus teaches that free will is present in OUR CHOICES!!! God's Choice is everyone will get saved!!

Mark Wills So Calvin is wrong because you don’t like him? That is also bad history to say he murdered 41 people. And the way you used Romans 1 was incorrect. I appreciate you being opinionated, but that is bad interpretation. Any Calvinist believes that whosoever will may come. If they will to come then they have been regenerated to life. It is really simple. Nobody comes unless it is granted by the Father is John 6. I don’t think it’s helpful to debate through comments, but I’ll examine your opinions and you examine mine. Grace and peace!

@@prestonbrowning264 I always ask this of calvinists, Where does the bible say that we are predestined to Salvation? We are predestined to Holiness, to adoption as sons, to being blameless. There are a lot of things we are predestined to, but not salvation, that is free will. Our choice determines where we go, and Paul is very clear in Romans 1 - Though they KNEW him as God they did not honor him as GOD. They are with out excuse! History tells us about Calvin, and no I do not like any one who distorts the Word of God. When you distort Gods word you distort God, that is unacceptable. Calvin was responsible for people who did not see the bible the way he did burned at the stake. That is undeniable history, and even in England calvinists apologized for the death of Michael Servetus. This has been reported for over a hundreds years! Bad theology always ends in bad results and this poor guy was burned at the stake and Calvin insisted they used Servetus' own books to burn!! So I can understand why you would not want to debate me, and I am not angry. I come across as angry, but I am not, I am just explaining what the leader of a false doctrine did. You expect the leader of a distortion of Holy God to have some skeletons in his closet, and Calvin does. According to historical records Calvin was responsible for 58 executions. What did these people do - commit murder? No they disagreed with Calvin they were doomed. He had written to a friend that if Servetus ever came to Geneva, “I will never let him depart alive, if I have any authority.” - William R. Estep, “Renaissance and Reformation”; pages 221-248. Well he had authority and Servetus was dead! When you take the whole book of Romans it is easy to see that God does not predetermine the choice of a man. He put that choice out in front of them, and they decide. Then there is Hebrews, also a book that teaches the Holy Spirit Draws man to God- Jesus. And they even partially partake of God's goodness, but after a while, and after knowing God for who he is, they reject the Holy Spirit and the Knowledge he gave. This causes them to trample on the Blood of Christ - and they are are not saved because they NEVER accepted Christ when they had the free will to do so. Hebrews 6:1-8. God is who he is, and he draws all men to him. No one can come to the Father unless they are drawn. No one can save themselves, salvation only comes form God. God so loves everyone that he does not desire ANY to perish. But if someone perishes it is not God's determination, it is man who decides he can be God on his own. Put out your false doctrine if you like, but you will find there is only one God and he is Father God - Jesus Christ - and The Holy Spirit!! He provided EVERY PERSON THAT HAS EVER LIVED THE ABILITY TO BE MADE RIGHT WITH GOD. John 3:18-19 is very clear "He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil." Case closed!

@@markwills3602 Obviously you have your mind made up. Just be convinced in your own mind. I get it, I used to make the same arguments you are making now. Which is why I am not going to push any points, but I am going to tell you why I believe what I believe. What appeals to me about reformed theology is that we don't attempt to solve apparent issue of God's sovereignty and human responsibility with a concept of human autonomy that I do not find in the bible. We live in the tension because that is what the bible seems to do. However, I would hope we could both agree that neither of us is totally right. Each of us have flaws in our theology. Sure, I think I am right and you think you are. Where we agree are the essentials. We agree that God alone saves. That Christ is the only way. That God is Triune. That Christ's sacrifice is the only payment for sins. And I could go on. My father who I respect as a bible teacher more than any, is an Arminian, and we can enjoy fellowship together. I apologize if I sounded harsh in my comment earlier. I try to approach this topic with love because it gets so heated. I agree with Spurgeon that the old Arminian standard is the same as we believe, apart from the operation of the Holy Spirit, no man is saved.

  • @markwills3602

    @markwills3602

    4 жыл бұрын

@@prestonbrowning264 I cannot agree with any flaws - all of what I said is scripture. Scripture is Flawless. Condemnation comes from unbelief - That is what Jesus said, is that flawed? Never. Paul said "They KNEW him as God, and they did not Honor him as God." Paul said it - it is scripture, and it is flawless! I do not think I am right - I KNOW scripture is right there is no doubt about that. Jesus said - And the judgment is based on this fact: God’s light came into the world, but people loved the darkness more than the light, for their actions were evil. - This choice they made is not flawed it is fact. Nothing God says is flawed. God NEVER Said you are predetermined to be saved - it is not in the bible. If that was in the Bible you would have said so. The fact that you cannot find that scripture "is what it is." History does not change - Calvin was a Mass Murderer. How does a mass murder construct any doctrine at all - especially with a depraved mind. Irresistible Grace does not exist, that is just a fact. They traded the truth about God for a lie. - that is a fact. For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. - It is a fact that lost people see God and his invisible qualities - his power and his divine nature. They have no excuse - That is a fact not a flaw. It does point out beyond a shadow of a doubt that no one goes to hell with out a choice. They have no excuse because they KNEW GOD! That is not flawed. Again I am not angry just speaking the truth and what Paul said and what Jesus Said.

Instead I saw the God of all creation in Jesus Christ who had love and compassion for sinners and loathed the nose in the air early Calvinists (Pharisees and Roman Catholic). I know two years is nothing but that was Thirty years ago. I cannot lose my salvation, I can't do anything to keep or lose it. Look at all you Calvinists. So sure are you of your own personal salvation. If you understand this theology and its implications correctly, I wonder how you sleep at night, and if you don’t, hit the books and stop isolating verses that you think support the horrendous doctrines of total depravity and unconditional election. God is love and that love is unconditional. The good news is His kingdom not your individual election.

God does as he pleases, sure, but you Calvinists take one example from Scripture and paint it over the entire history and future of salvation and the world. Just because He did what you described that in no way shape of form means he send babies to hell. How do you even make that connection? If that is what you think, you need to check your reasoning. Nowhere in the bible does it say that is what always happens or that it means non elect babies go to hell. But Calvinism has only internal logic. It cannot survive external examination because it falls apart.

Then Jesus told them to teach THEIR baptized disciples to do EVERYTHING that He had instructed THEM! Where will you find Jesus' instructions? In the Gospels. You have a LOT of reading to do. John MacArthur impresses me very much because he speaks clearly, he motions modestly and speaks directly to the point of his message and doesn't declare that he is always right but maintains as to what the bible tells him in his own understanding. He stands firm with his knowledge of what he understands and knows he does not have all the answers about God. He does not run around on his podium like a wild idiot, nor shouts into the microphone with a loud voice as though no one can hear him and acts likes someone extremely high on caffeine and that impresses me the most

Yes He does. He preaches salvation by grace and adds works. Romans 11:6. If we add one work to grace we have perverted the gospel of grace an preach works. Lordship salvation is works salvation which perverts the gospel of grace. He makes the cross of no effect. He denies the blood of Jesus which covers us from all sin, past, present, and future sins we have not even thought of yet. John 3:18. Believers can no longer be condemned, but unbelievers are condemned already because they have not believed on the name of the Son of God. Colossians 2:13. He has forgiven us ALL trespasses. Not some, but ALL. The GIFT of God is eternal life. All we have to do is accept His full payment for our sin. Paid in full. John 3:18. Paul said in Galatians 1:6-9 Let him be accursed.

When I was truly converted, divine election made complete sense to me, although at first I was hesitant. I grew up in a very legalistic environment, a charasmatic Pentecostal denomination. Where you are constantly on guard, able to lose your salvation with any sin, and could die and go to hell if not fully repentant and completely clear of all sin before death. It was a nightmare. After truly becoming a Christian, almost 20 years later, I listened to and read MacArthur and sproul. I realized I had it all wrong and it was like a light bulb going off in my head, everything made sense and the Word of God became plain and clear. I also came to the realization that I was helplessly lost and unable to free myself absent God,s intervention.

What about those mentioned in the bible who "might" [potentially] have been saved? It says "might", so the potential existed, the opportunity existed, and these people will be held accountable for not believing. But, of course, the Calvanist viewpoint says they have no capacity to believe, and that God has to produce the faith, etc. If that is the case, then how could these people have potentially been redeemed? I've always said that there are "four" legs to chair. Take one away, and you'll end up on the floor. Bringing the various truths of scripture together in harmony and balance is critical. Our appreciates the "clear" fundamentals of Scripture, without getting bogged down debating and discussing matters that will not be resolved until heaven overtakes this world. There's enough spiritual food to devour on the table that has been set before us to choke on the harder vittles of theology. Um, Calvinism is NOT the gospel. Sure, it contains gospel truth, but it is NOT the gospel, any more than dispensationalism is the gospel. I know a girl who got saved in a Calvinistic based church, then later in her walk with the Lord she came to disagree with certain elements taught by the church, and subsequently left and joined another solid Christian church with views more in harmony with her personal convictions. That church gasped at her decision, very similar to a cult group who thinks it has a monopoly on truth. Sadly, some Calvinistic churches have taken on the spirit of a cult group, seeking to promote its way of thinking at the expense of the pure, simple message of the Cross. I've preached for 30 years in the same place. We rarely talk about John Calvin, the subject and debate surrounding Calvinism, and most people don't know much about nor care about the TULIP acrostic. And it's amazing how lovely and godly these folks are! In fact, it some respects I'm glad they live in ignorance to some of this "stuff" people spend their whole lives debating. They have the essential under their belts, and that's all that truly matters. @@happyforever1528

Notice how it doesn't say anything close to what your catholic non-God's-word says? You can't be appointed to anything if you don't accept the free GIFT of salvation. Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen. This verse makes no sense in your delusional reality, if there is no free will how is someone called and not chosen? John G. Paton was a missionary who evangelised a violent island where everyone, both men and woman, wear little to no clothing. In his book, The Story of John G. Paton or Thirty Years Among South Sea Cannibals, John G. Paton records this incident about a native man and woman who became Christians and then wanted to marry but feared they would be killed because there were a few men who wanted to marry the woman. In a few seconds, Yakin entered and if Nelwang’s bearing and appearance were rather inconsistent with the feeling of worship (he was wearing a shirt, kilt and tommahawk, John G. Paton felt it inappropriate to wear an emblem of violence to church)- and what on earth was I to do when the figure and costume of Yakin began to reveal itself marching in? The first visible difference betwixt a Heathen and a Christian is that the Christian wears some clothing, the Heathen wears none. Yakin had determined to show the extent of her Christianity by the amount of clothing she could carry upon her person. Being a Chief’s widow before she became Nelwang’s bride, she had some idea of state occasions and appeared dressed in every article of European apparel, mostly portions of male attire, that she could beg or borrow from about the premises! Her bridal gown was a man’s drab-coloured great-coat, put on above her native grass skirts and sweeping down to her heels, buttoned tight. Over this she had hung on a vest and above that, again, most amazing of all, she had superinduced a pair of men's trousers, planting the body of them on her neck and shoulders and leaving her head and face looking out from between the legs - a leg from either side streaming over her bosom, arid, dangling down absurdly in front! Fastened to the one shoulder also there was a red shirt and to the other a striped shirt waving about her like wings as she sailed along. Around her head, a red shirt had been twisted like a turban, and her notions of art demanded that a sleeve thereof should have a loft over each of her ears! She seemed to be a moving monster-loaded with a mass of rags. The day was excessively hot, and the perspiration poured over her face in streams. She, too, sat as near to me as she could get on the woman’s side of the church. Nelwang looked at me and then at her smiling quietly, as if to say, “You never saw in all your white world, a bride so grandly dressed!” I little thought what I was bringing on myself when I urged them to come to church. The sight of that poor creature sweltering before me constrained me for once to make the service very short - perhaps the shortest I ever conducted in all my life! The day ended in peace. The two souls were extremely happy, and I praised God that what might have been a scene of bloodshed had closed thus, even though it were in a kind of wild grotesquerie!

JM misrepresented the free-will crowd, when he said man can choose Christ, WITHOUT THE HOLY SPIRIT. The key scripture is Hebrews 6. Hebrews 6:4-9 (KJV) "For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God: But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned. But, beloved, WE ARE PERSUADED BETTER THINGS OF YOU, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak." God draws us, the Holy Spirit enlightens us, and convicts us of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and then the choice is ours. The thrust of Hebrews is warning fellow Jews NOT TO TURN BACK. They're drawn to the door, and Jesus is knocking, but it's their choice to open the door and walk through. God is NOT a respecter of persons.

Other than that secondary doctrine will be debated until Jesus reaffirms in us all things as we dwell with him for eternity. God bless.

Yes, but Luther still held the power of grace vested in the Church and the sacraments, particularly baptism. He believed that the Christian culture of his day was of God and anything like a secularist world in which Christians were again the underdogs as they were in the first century was unthinkable. It's important to keep this in mind. Man had no part to play in his salvation because the play had essentially been made. It could not be UNMADE. This is different from Calvinism, especially the English speaking Puritan form which becomes so important to American Evangelical thinking.

He will fill you to give to others, so that you don't have to fill yourself. Also, fellowship and prayer with other believers is a great and biblical way to share one another's burdens and encourage one another. God bless you.

Reall getting exhausted of Calvinists conflation of the two aspects of Salvation. Man's response-ability to the Spirit breathed word of the Gospel, and God's sovereign choice to regenerate those who "respond" to the message in faith. It is God's sovereign and gracious choice to pardon those who come to Him in faith as apposed to working to earn His favor. Faith is NOT a meritorious work. God is not obligated to forgive our sins when we admit we are sinners. He is gracious to forgive by His choice. It is no secret who God desires to save as Calvinists would lead us to believe. It is those who trust in His chosen SON.

How about that word "MIGHT" we find in the NT? Regarding the matter of redemption, it says that many sinners will refuse to believe "that they MIGHT [potentially] be saved"? Might be saved? Potentially saved? Hmmm, that doesn't fit the typical Calvinist mold, since, according to Calvinism, nobody who has the potential to be saved will ever be lost, for all are elected unto salvation. There is not "might be saved" when it comes to the non-elect. How about "deeming yourselves unworthy of eternal life?" That's another statement in the Bible. Can that possibly be true of the dead sinner who has absolutely to capacity whatsoever to respond to God? There are plenty of Bible verses which fall into the Arminian camp, demanding that we present the revelation of Scripture in a balanced manner. One theological angle is not enough. Plucking one string on the Bible Banjo, so to speak, is not the playing good spiritual music.

The Calvinistic system in my opinion portrays God as puffing Himself up and desiring to magnify His own glory at the expense of the majority of His creation predestined and decreed to damnation before the beginning of time. I will trust in the God clearly reaveled in the scriptures and not one who has "secret" wills that perhaps may not desire for my redemption.

Where does that come into the picture? they use the whole "grace & salvation is a gift, & you can reject a gift, in order to receive it, you must accept it." & of course, they also hold to being able to lose salvation.
