Armenian COOKING CLASS & Feast Inside MEGERIAN CARPET FACTORY | Yerevan, Armenia

As my second full day in Armenia continued, I set out on an awesome, once-in-a-lifetime adventure! Come along with me as I attend an Armenian cooking class and have a feast inside a carpet factory in the capital city, Yerevan!
Megerian Carpets: / megeriancarpetarmenia
Galina: / gaaliinnnn._13
Armenia Travel: / armeniatravelofficial
My afternoon started at the world-famous Megerian Carpet Cultural Complex, where my guide, Galina, took me on a tour. Our first stop was the Museum of Antique Rugs. The rugs inside date back between 100 and 400 years! I also saw a photo of the largest rug in the world, which is proven to be Armenian!
Then, Galina showed me the natural dyes and a map of Armenia from 1914. The oldest rug in the museum is over 400 years old. Part of it was repaired 70 years ago with chemical dyes, but they have faded, while the natural dyes have stayed vibrant! Next, I saw the Almond Rug, which symbolize maternity, fertility, and life.
The Vahan Rug has a pattern of a shield on it and was split in half by a mother, with each of her daughters getting one half during the Armenian Genocide. She hoped that if they got separated, that they would be able to use their halves to find each other again. They found each other 50 years later in New York City. The story almost made me cry!
The rugs came in all different sizes and colors, with lots of different patterns. There were 70 rugs there!
After weaving the rugs, they wash, brush, and shear the rugs. Galina showed me the process. Then, Galina took me to the weaving center to show me the Armenian double-knot technique. She also showed me the factory’s largest loom, which can weave up to 100 square meters with 4-8 women working on it at once.
Next was the showroom, where there were thousands of rugs. All of the carpets there were for sale except one that was a present for George and Amal Clooney. They only made 100 copies of this design, and they’re only for people who are invested in the Armenian nation or helped with the Armenian Genocide.
Further along are antique rugs, which are 75 years old or more. They triple price for the age. A new one costs about $2,000, and the antiques were $6,000.
Next, I had some smooth Ararat brandy, which was amazing and exactly what I needed. I met with Vladimir, the chef, who would teach me how to cook a dish called Tapaka Ararat!
After cooking everything, he arranged the beef, rice, dried fruit, and walnuts so that they symbolized Mount Ararat and humanity around them.
The beef with saffron rice was so good. It was almost like having a creamy rice. Next, I had vodka, followed by lavash, a strong cheese, and strong greens.
The creamy eggplant with peas and pomegranante was so good! After more vodka, I tried the lake trout dish called the Mermaid, which was stuffed with greens, cranberries, and cranberry sauce. It also came with a spinach-like herb and cream.
Next were the dolmas, which I love eating in Greece. They’re grape leaves stuffed with beef and rice. You eat them with creamy matsoun.
For dessert, I tried the halwa, which was like a delicious cacao ball. The nuts with honey were like a delicious peanut butter ball, and the gata was dense, sugary, and crumbly.
What an amazing dinner! The only thing is, if you want to dine at the restaurant in the carpet factory, you have to make reservations beforehand.
After dinner, I tried on some traditional garb that’s meant for kings. It went well with my new hat I got from the market earlier in the day. I got some photos taken in the carpet showroom for $25 USD.
I hope you enjoyed coming with me to my Armenian cooking class and feast inside the Megerian Carpet Factory. If you did, please give this video a thumbs up and leave a comment below.

More than 20 kings of Armenians were emperors of the Byzantine empire. The Armenians made a huge contribution to the Byzantine Empire, culture. So you can see the ornaments in St. Sophia Cathedral in Constantinople and in other cities. And in Italy, too, there are cathedrals built by the Armenians. Not to mention the island of St. Lazarus in the Gulf of Venice, which is wholly owned by the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Thanks, brother! I greatly appreciate your videos about Armenia. They're dynamic, informative and... DELICIOUS :). Just one little thing: Armenian word "kenats" is not the equivalent of "cheers!". Rather, that means toast, which is basically a short (sometimes long lol) speach before drinking. However the way you pronounce the word sounds like "gnats", which can be translated as "here we go"! which sounds cool. Armenia as well as the whole Caucasus have nice tradition of toasts. They tell stories, parables with a moral lesson about friendship, parents, motherland, etc. Thanks again, my man!

when there is nothing of your own, you always have to lie and try to steal from someone else’s without reason)) what have you been doing all your life. these rugs are older than you nomads. For millennia there have been only 2 states on these lands: the Armenian kingdom and Georgia. You are not anywhere, you are nobody and no one is called. You are a project of the Bolsheviks. Everyone can just write, and you prove the bastard. you all and the whole nation are supposedly only 100 years old and history, and then thanks to Lenin who simply created your lands, having robbed us. Sit and keep silent the tricks of an unknown person.))))

Akisha Soyadi the areas west of current Armenia in the map all the way to the Black Sea were Armenian populated towns (Erzrum, Kars, Mus, Van, Ardahan, etc.). There were 2.4 million Armenians living there and owning the entire real estate. In case you didn’t know, 90% of those cities were populated by Armenians and lands were owned by Armenians for centuries. These people had been living in those lands since the Kingdom of Armenia days and were rightful owners of those lands regardless of which empire took over throughout the years. During the Byzantine-Sasanian wars, Kingdom of Armenia was ultimately partitioned into Byzantine Armenia in 387 and Persian Armenia in 428 and so on but the Armenian people and those lands were inseparable until 1915. I think this should explain the map in the video.

@@anizakaryan6723 living in a certain area among turks and kurds doesnt change the fact that those lands were not called armenia in 1914. that map is a fairytale and based on simply nothing. it was the ottoman empire in 1914 and turkey after that. if u look at the link u will see that armenian population was well under 10% in those times and not 90% like u claim to be. fanaticism and nationalism has blinded you people from seeing the truth. turksandarmenians.marmara.edu.tr/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/1914-Y%C4%B1l%C4%B1-N%C3%BCfus-Verileri.jpg

Akisha Soyadi Ottoman Empire was not a country. It was an Empire from sixteenth to eighteenth centuries that controlled Southeast Europe, Southwest Asia and North Africa. It’s like saying all that was one country. It was not. There were numerous countries within the Ottoman Empire. At its peak it even included Egypt, Greece, Jordan, etc.). As for it becoming Turkey afterwards, the Treaty of Sèvres signed by 14 countries (including Armenia) and Ottoman Empire gave all those lands in the map to Armenia in 1920. It was signed during Woodrow Wilson presidency and United States was one of the signers. 3 years later in 1923, the Treaty of Lausanne signed by only 8 countries (including Turkey but missing Armenia) took those lands given to Armenian by the Treaty of Sèvres and gave them to Turkey. Except the didn’t get our consent on it and hence Armenia never signed the latter treaty. Imagine some other countries signing a deal that half of your country is given to another country but never get your country’s signature. So unbelievable don’t you think? Also, let’s not forget that those 2.4 million Armenians legally had purchased and paid for most of the real estate within the map (Mus, Van, Erzurum, etc.). After 1915 when Armenians were forced out of their homes, those lands were resold (to mainly Kurds) for the fraction of the worth by Turkey and the process went to Turkish government. But that real estate didn’t belong to Turkey to sell! Imagine the current value of those lands. That belongs to the descendants of the people that held title to those lands.
