Armageddon War (Flying Pig Games) - Introduction & Scenario 2 Playthrough
Ойындар
The second entry in our series for "Flying Pig February" is the 2018 release "Armageddon War" designed by Greg Porter. This is a platoon-level tactical game set in the "end war" of the near future (2028, so 10 years after the game's release date).
This is a unique system with some very interesting mechanics.
This video is an introduction to the game, and a full playthrough of scenario #2, which is one of the more basic scenarios. The game employs the tried & true method of having the scenarios start basic and adds rules as things progress through the scenarios.

I took your advice from another flying pig game review awhile back and looked into this game. They finally reprinted it. It's excellent. Took a minute to grasp this concept of no turns just ongoing activations but it's refreshing. Nice video. Hope Mark reprints the expansions as well especially Burning Lands. Picked up '85 as well and I see they're getting ready to KS '95 based on the '65 system.

Armageddon War is excellent indeed - I'm thrilled it finally got a reprint. I had heard about '95 too, still waiting to get '85 to the table. I'm in the middle of three weeks of business travel. Can't get home soon enough... thanks!
Armageddon War is a lot of fun. Good flow, deceptively simple mechanics where the counters and dice make for fast combat resolution. My only problem with it was that it was a 'near future' platoon-level game where the US didn't have Javelins (this criticism was validated about a year ago...). Hard to find these days, though. Wish there was a larger series using this game engine!

Absolutely agree on all counts, but especially that it would be outstanding if this became a series.
Looks fun. This system seems really streamlined and the game looks great. Too bad I can't find it anymore. I hope they will reprint.

Yes, absolutely. I believe Mark Walker would like to do a reprint, so hopefully he'll be able to make that happen in the not-too-distant future.
An extremely cool box cover.

Yep, the artwork on Flying Pig Games is typically cool, but you're right - that box art is next-level good.
Is that a Del's cup?!

Actually it's a Bennigan's cup, dating back to when my kids were small.
Excellent Joe! I don’t have this game (hard to find) nor any of the expansions. Maybe FP will reprint one of these days?

I really hope so. The game is sooo good and it'd be great if more could get it. Took me a while to track down a copy that wasn't ridiculously expensive. The only thing I'm missing for it is "The 600" which looks really cool (basically a campaign expansion) - but that one was a Kickstarter exclusive and even harder to find than the rest of the game & expansions.

The campaign expansion is available as a PDF on Wargame Vault for $10

That's right, I had completely forgotten but I'd seen it there in the past. I don't do PnP because I'm not crafty at all, but I believe this is just a string of connected scenarios. Thanks!
This game is way too expensive. Is there another game with similar mechanics (no turns) that is less expensive?

You might already know this, but they're doing a reprint where you can grab it for $35 off from the Flying Pig Games website. There's also a print & play option on Wargame Vault (also linked on the FPG page) here: flyingpiggames.com/products/armageddon-war As for other games with similar mechanics... Aden, from Tiny Battle Publishing, is also a Greg Porter game and also turn-less with combat similar to Armageddon War. That one's only $28 on the TPG website. There is a sequel to Armageddon War in the works too and that'll likely hit appear on Kickstarter at some point, which might be a way to get it for a bit less than the full-price release. I have no idea how close that is to fruition, but I do know it's something that's in development right now.
