    In case anyone wants to find more info on this move, it's sometimes also called an "arm-toss" in wrestling, and "Ippon seoi nage" in Judo.

    Hi Cary, great stuff on your channel. I'm from the east coast and I remember you very well from when I wrestled in college. I'm now in LA in video production and about to teach my son wrestling in a few years when he's old enough. Love watching these videos but from a technical standpoint they would be a little better if you went out and bought a great camera for just what you're doing called the Sony A6500. It's a great camera that will shoot amazing quality and really up the production value of your shoots and does well in low-light. Let me know if you need any more information on it I really think it would boost the quality of your videos and help you out a lot.

    Thanks Cary, I went to Lock Haven camp when I was young. When is a good age to start my son into wrestling and how should I introduce the sport to him? He is almost 3 yrs old now. I was thinking somewhere around 5 or 6 years old. Im not sure who strong wrestling is in the Los Angeles area.

    0:25 I'm not very familiar with wrestling rules, but if it's a 0-0 score in that situation, I think the rule should change. The offensive guy missed and put himself in a very bad situation (if it were a real life fight). The defensive guy getting on top of him should be awarded 2 points.

  • @EverettBurger

    But, the UWW wants high scoring matches. For that to happen, they want wrestlers to take risks. Therefore, if you miss a scoring opportunity, you won't be penalized. It rewards offensive wrestlers. UWW (and the IOC) don't want 1-0 gold metal matches. With that said, I agree with your take. The wrestler who is "defensive" in this scenario should be given the opportunity to score as well. For instance, if my opponent "slips" when attempting this arm-throw, I should be allowed to gut wrench him and score multiple points.

    I weigh 170, but this is one of my go to moves when I roll with heavy weights. I wouldn't say weight lifting would help you as much as just staying agile and in shape. Getting really good at hip heist type movements. As a 215 pounder, if you can get more agile and quicker, you can learn this move, and also learn the escape out the back door if the move fails in folkstyle.

  • @7mikepd

    I guess I do more of an arm spin, but this is kind of what I meant by going out the back door if you get stopped on an arm spin/throw. But yes, you should look up arm spins, because it really is a different technique than an arm throw. I would try a bunch of different ways to do it from what you see on youtube because different things work for different people. Also whether you are doing freestyle, greco, folk, mma, judo, jiujitsu. kzread.info/dash/bejne/qaKc0amYfcannaQ.html

  • @leavemealone2006

    Air Ashton as long as your knees hit the mat before your opponent's, it is legal. To be safe, you should drop straight to your knees when you hit this throw.

  • @leavemealone2006

    @leavemealone2006

    Mark Gaskin yes that is definitely a risk. You have to have a good hold on the arm, and you have to get your hips in the right position. This is a risky move no matter how you do it. Even if you do it, there is a risk of getting rolled through once you hit the mat. That doesn't mean you shouldn't do the throw; it means you should drill it thousands of times in every scenario possible and always practice following through.

    @@CultureSamurai that is incorrect in your correction, although its one of the seoi nages, all tewaza throws involving the shoulder are seoi nages belonging to the first section of Dai ikkyo throws which form part of the Gokyo (no waza) in Kodokan Judo, the Seoi nages are then split, there is, as part of the current 67, Inc Morote Seoi nage, Ippon Seoi nage, Eri Seoi nage, and all of these are split in modern Judo and are nuanced again, as this one is, what you saw for it's complete title is a drop Ippon Seoi nage, (a drop one armed shoulder throw, and classed as one of the te waza (hand techniques) in Judo, it's a Seoi nage yes but it's specific, but a bit like calling an uppercut, a jab and a roundhouse just a punch, they are just a punch, but they are all split into specifics, if you go and watch most televised commentated Judo events the likes of Neil Adams may shout " lovely left hand Seoi" or beautiful Morote" or drop Seoi, but for us fans the exact throw is in the title, "lovely left hand Seoi" means Ippon Seoi, cos his left and same conversely if he have said, " lovely right hand Seoi, we know it's Ippon Seoi, if you have a left handed Morote they will say " left handed morote" it left handed Eri, or beautiful drop Seoi and the vision gives us the nuance. So yes it's on of the Seoi nages, but they are different, that is a drop right handed Ippon (meaning one) Seoi nage (shoulder throw), I know you won't mind me correcting you if your a fighter cos we, at least I do, live to learn, judo was my sport for 27 yrs, half of that instructing. Peace
