Arlo Guthrie & Pete Seeger/ This Land Is Your Land

Музыка

Third Encore! This is the best version of Woody's song ever! Arlo Guthrie and Pete Seeger gets EVERYONE to sing this song! I love Pete's ghostly deep and gentle voice leading with the lyrics. This was a truly magical concert. This is all never before seen footage. The project is still on the shelf. For now, I thought the world needs to see this!
The video is a live mix and the sound track is from our CD titled More Together again. Soon to be released at Carnegie Hall this year. Arlo, Pete and family will be performing together once again.

Saw him on my birthday a few years ago just before he stopped touring. He had been on my bucket list for years since 1969. When he and his family came out and played/sang this, along with the 2000 old grey-haired hippies, it was my absolute best concert experience. Thank you, Arlo, and thank you Woody.

I don't feel sad for a man who lived 94 years doing what he loved. I only feel sad for all those idealistic young people who never heard Pete's message of how foolish these wars are. They believed the lies and -- if they come back alive -- they are often broken mentally, spiritually, and physically at 20. Now that is sad!

@Zac Ariah That is my hope and the hope of many here, too. We are very challenged with this latest Covid19 threat to our liberties. Too many are going along with it, perhaps because the principles that made America wonderful have not been emphasized in our public schools. It's possible this latest challenge can leave us better than ever. That's our goal!

Thanks to my father I was made aware of Guthrie and Seeger when I was a child growing up in the 60's and early 70's. On longer rides in the car we would sing. Did'nt know the artists by name, was to young. But deep down inside my dad knew we needed to know these songs and artists. Now I own a mini van without a DVD player. My children enjoy singing along to their music or now and again I sneak in stuff like this. They LOVE IT! God Bless Seeger & Guthrie and my Father & Mother

Christopher, I sooo agree! I have been teaching folk music to kids and adults for almost 50 years! Pete Seeger and Arlo Guthrie have been my all time favorites. The hard intervals in the Star Spangle Banner are impossible for most people to sing. Not to mention the violence - The bombs bursting in air! I'm often asked to lead Star Spangle Banner for a group. I usually sing "God Bless America". Simple and easy. All kids are taught "This Land is Your Land in school." Would be a great choice.

I don't think he likes to do it." Arlo mentioned something about this when he did this song at the Boston Pops: "you wondered if it began to lose it's meaning or something like that." But he sure seems to love doing it here. It's a wonderful thing to make peace with yourself. ...(I'm working on it: inspiration helps :-) )

I remember in one of his shows he said they moved a lot. The schools would have assemblies in the gym and they would say that the son of Woody Guthrie was a student there and sing This Land is Your Land. He said he was the only one who didn't know the verses and he was always sort of embarrassed. He has ALWAYS done the verse about the fence in every single concert I've been to. I don't know why he didn't do it here. That is my favorite verse! Thank you for your video.

I was recently in D.C. for the first time in my life this past 4th of July. I saw all the monuments, the Jefferson Memorial, and then the White House. What I saw behind the White House moved me more than anything. The protesters had been moved to the back for the day. I have to tell you that seeing and meeting those protesters gave me total perspective. I recently lost my job. Twenty four years I worked at a factory. I was laid off. We have no insurance. I am angry and scared of the future.

“I hate a song that makes you think that you are not any good. I hate a song that makes you think that you are just born to lose. Bound to lose. No good to nobody. No good for nothing. Because you are too old or too young or too fat or too slim or too ugly or too this or too that. Songs that run you down or poke fun at you on account of your bad luck or hard travelling. I am out to fight those songs to my very last breath of air and my last drop of blood. I am out to sing songs that will prove to you that this is your world and that if it has hit you pretty hard and knocked you for a dozen loops, no matter what color, what size you are, how you are built, I am out to sing the songs that make you take pride in yourself and in your work. And the songs that I sing are made up for the most part by all sorts of folks just about like you. I could hire out to the other side, the big money side, and get several dollars every week just to quit singing my own kind of songs and to sing the kind that knock you down still farther and the ones that poke fun at you even more and the ones that make you think that you've not got any sense at all. But I decided a long time ago that I'd starve to death before I'd sing any such songs as that. The radio waves and your movies and your jukeboxes and your songbooks are already loaded down and running over with such no good songs as that anyhow.” ― Woody Guthrie HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY
